ANIMAL SHELTER BONAIRE
The Bonaire Animal Shelter is a refuge for dogs and cats that can no longer be cared for by their owners, have been abandoned, or were born in the wild and brought to us.
Dedicated volunteers spend their time every day to take very good care of these animals. All these animals are de-wormed, vaccinated, neutered or castrated and if necessary treated for any illnesses.
Then they wait for a new home.
The shelter also offers a boarding place for cats and dogs and we have a gift shop on the premises to help raise money to sustain the shelter. To help generate extra revenue for our animal protection programs and to provide food and medical care for the animals at the Animal Shelter Bonaire our volunteers also run a thrift shop every Saturday at the Pakhus di Pruga and run this amazing Animal Shelter booth during the cruise season. Thank you for visiting our booth and enjoy the most unique market in The Caribbean.
Can you do anything to help?
We are often asked by island visitors, residents and Bonaire Animal Shelter supporters “Can I do anything to help ”Sure you can help”
and in any number of ways:
• By volunteering your time
• By making a monetary donation to help keep our Shelter programs operating
• Shop in our second hand shop “Pakus di Pruga“
• By donating items

Our Volunteers
We have many amazing hardworking volunteers that help with the cleaning and feeding duties at the shelter. There are many different types of animals that all require different feeding and cleaning duties.
We also have volunteers that help us maintain the kennels, clean the premises, paint, help at the flea market and cruise ship market and many people who help out in many ways they can to help the Bonaire Animal Shelter sustain.
The Bonaire Animal Shelter is partially supported by the government of Bonaire. However, most of the operating budget depends on the contributions from businesses and people such as yourself who appreciate the unsaying affection and devotion that these animals provide us.
Educational programs for schoolchildren
The intention of these programs is creating more understanding and awareness of the needs of animals, in particular house pets. School classes come and visit our Shelter for an educational tour and we also will visit the schools to teach them more about the behavior and taking care of dogs.
Animal Shelter youth volunteers
These hardworking youth volunteers in the age from 8 to 17 years help out in the Shelter in the weekends and school vacations. They love the animals and help to clean, feed, socialize and train them. They also have great ideas and they are very creative and inspiring to everybody to make the world a better place for animals.
Animal Shelter Bonaire education and training program
We started a new education and training program to give dog owners all the information they need about how to handle and care for their pet.
We teach dog training classes, educate on animal behavior, rehabilitation, grooming, hydrotherapy and more. We are there for all the pet owners on Bonaire!
For the kids there are also lots of things to learn, not only do we have a educational kids program at the Shelter, we also like to involve them in our dog training program and they LOVE IT!
Sterilization fund
The Animal Shelter Bonaire tries to stimulate the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats. Publicity and providing information will remain for us priorities in order to acquire the necessary funds and to stimulate the sterilization program. You can make contributions to the fund by means of a donation; look for the Animal Shelter dog house donation boxes in many shops and businesses on Bonaire.
Please support the Shelter Bonaire! Your donation helps in many ways:
- $8,50 helps to microchip a pet
- $50 buys a day pet food
- $450 spays or neuters 10 dogs
