Serviceton Railway Station
For 97 years this railway station operated in Victoria, close to the South Australian border. It started life when states would charge import taxes for goods to pass over the border. It was also a place where all passengers had to disembark and, with all their luggage, get on to another train before continuing their journey - the reason being that different states had different rail gauges, so Victorian trains could not operate in South Australia and vice versa! Stupid bloody mindedness!
Serviceton
On a recent road trip we stopped at Serviceton for a smoke break. The care taker approached us and asked if we would like a tour. Armed with nothing but a trusty video recorder, funny country caretaker and an alleged haunted railway station, we set off to do what we love best, EXPLORE!..sit back, hit play and watch this light hearted very relaxed investigation, this video is condensed to 10 minutes, The original is 30 minutes. ( if you can call it an investigation)..We had fun, TY Ron...

Living in Jeparit also means being close to many sites of historical signaficance. A quick drive to Serviceton to inspect the historic railway station was very enlightening. The station was unique in both its position on the border, having 3 stories and that all the brickworks came from Horsham for construction. So many items to be seen from a by-gone era along with a tour of the lowest level & the holding cells by our volunteer tour guide made the outing very memorable.

'Roadtrip' with Mickey D & Damian Callinan - Bordertown - Serviceton Railway Station Haunting
Serviceton is in the disputed territories of SA/Victoria. Nominally a Victorian town it was supposed to be on the South Australian side of the border but a geographically challenged surveyor Victorian surveyor gist his sextant in knot and the rest his history. Whether this played any part in the hauntings of the grand Serviceton Railway Station is hard to say but we had white Victorian dresses still and we were prepared to wear them.
