The city of Kitsuki (杵築), in Oita Prefecture is located on the southern side of the Kunisaki Peninsula. The city is nicknamed a sandwich castle town because of the samurai districts on both the north and south hills with the commercial district in the center.
Kitsuki Castle is located in the eastern end, near the coast facing out into the Seto Inland Sea. Originally built in 1394, the castle suffered damages from earthquakes and a severe storm in 1596 and 1597. The castle was not reconstructed until 1970. Currently a three-tiered main keep, it is said to be the smallest castle in Japan. A small museum displaying local artifacts is located within the castle keep.

Crossing Seto Ohashi Bridge on Rapid Express Train Marine Liner
Seto Ohashi Bridge (or Great Seto Bridge) is a set of eleven double decked bridges (13.1 kilometers long in total) built on Seto Inland Sea in Japan. This set of bridges connect the main Island of Honshu with the Shikoku Islands region.
There are multiple trains that take passengers from Okayama (on the Honshu side) to various places in Shikoku region and most of them cross the Seto Ohashi Bridge. The last stop on the Okayama side is the JR Kojima Station and the last stop on the Shikoku side is the JR Utazu Station before getting on Seto Ohashi Bridge.
This video shows the train ride from JR Utazu Station to JR Kojima Station on the Rapid Express Train Marine Liner, crossing the Seto Ohashi Bridge. Rapid Express Train Marine Liner is a service between JR Okayama Station and JR Takamatsu Station. Enjoy!!!

Japan Summer Trip 2016 - Seto Inland Sea Cruise Ogijima
In previous movie we reached Takamatsu on Shikoku by ferry. Takamatsu is a convenient hub connecting a city with many small islands on Seto Inland Sea. We chose Ogijima as our next destination. According to a folk tradition, Ogijima and neighboring Megijima are inhabited by demones or ogres (oni) along with small populations of humans. On Ogijima we took a walk through subtropical forest to reach a charming lighthouse on the wild beach.

Reviving tourism through art
Reviving tourism through art
Focus - How can art be used to revive aging islands? The organisers of Japan's Setouchi Triennal, a festival of contemporary art currently taking place on the islands of Japan's Seto Inland Sea, are asking themselves just that. Until November 4th, nearly one million visitors are expected at this event, which brings together 200 artists.

Japan Travel: Cycling along the Seto Inland Sea, Shimanami Kaido Bridge, Onomichi, Hiroshima 08
Visitors who love the outdoors, island hopping, or cycling are strongly recommended to visit the Shimanami Kaido bridge located in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. However, to be fair, Shimanami Kaido Bridge’s Honshu location is in Onomichi City with its Shikoku partner in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture. This 60 kilometer bridge which spans over Seto Inland Sea also connects Honshu (Japan’s main island) with the island of Shikoku. In addition, bridge has ramps along the route for visitors to stop at one of the six islands (Mukaishima, Innoshima, Ikuchijima, Omishima, Hakatajima, and Oshima) in the Seto Inland Sea. Visitors can either drive or cycle across the bridge.
Many visitors, both domestic and international, who love to cycle, will enjoy travelling across this bridge via bicycle, experiencing the wind in the hair as they take in the beautiful sea scenery. Please note: the total bicycle route is 70 kilometers, including the bridge ramps. There are 14 different bicycle rental terminals along Shimanami Kaido Bridge. In addition to the main terminals at Onomichi Port and Sunrise Itoyama, visitors can rent bicycles from various terminals including Hakata Rental Cycle Terminal on Hakatajima Island, Shigei Nishi Port on Innoshima Island and so on. A deposit of 1000 yen is required. For adults (meaning junior high school students and older), the rental fee is 500 yen per day. For children (meaning elementary school and younger), the cost is 300 yen per day. Electric bicycles are available, but only for adults. Electric bicycles are 800 yen for 4 hours.
The islands have various accommodations, including minshuku (private residences turned into a bed and breakfast), camping grounds, and traditional hot spring (onsen) inns (ryokan) for visitors to spend the night. The view of Shimanami Kaido from one of the islands in the evening is just one of the beautiful sights visitors can experience.
Visitors looking for rest spots need not worry. The cycling route takes cyclists along restaurants and other rest areas the islands have. For motorists, there are various “service areas” on the expressway bridge where drivers can exit the car to stretch, eat, and take in the fresh sea air.
Please enjoy the attractions the islands hold. Among the most popular are Kosanji Temple and Museum on Ikuchijima Island, Flower Center in Innoshima Island, and Home of the Yoshihara Family (Very Important Cultural Property) on Mukaishima Island. In addition to the cultural aspects, in the summer, the islands have great beaches, annual firework festivals. Visitors can experiences thrilling and scenic boat rides such as the Tide Ride (a boat ride on the one of the fastest streams) in Oshima Island. And foodies are sure to enjoy the fresh seafood, caught in the local sea, as well as local, seasonal vegetables.
Cycling along the Shimanami Kaido Toll Bridge/Road is a new way to explore the islands of Seto Inland Sea. With the beautiful view of the water and the islands, cyclists from all over the world are sure to remember this Japanese cycling adventure!!

Seto Bridge Drive, Japan (瀬戸大橋)
The Seto Bridge is a 13.1 KM long structure that links the island of Shikoku with the island of Honshu in Japan. The top is a 4 lane expressway with a railway on the deck below. Driving across this structure over the Seto Sea is a great driving experience.
Let's go to Ondo-no-seto!
Ondo-no-seto (音戸の瀬戸?) is a strait in Seto Inland Sea around Kure, Hiroshima between the main island of Japan and Kurahashi island.
“Inujima”, a small island floating on Seto Inland Sea with Art Works Okayama,Japan 01 Moopon
Inujima (犬島, literally: dog island) is a small island off Okayama in the Seto Inland Sea that is named after a large rock resembling a sitting dog. Like nearby Naoshima Island, Inujima has become known as a site for modern art in recent years and serves as a venue of the Setouchi Triennale modern art festival. Due to its small size, the peaceful island can be explored entirely on foot.
Before turning to modern art, Inujima was mostly an industrial site. During the feudal age it produced granite blocks for castle construction, and in the early 20th century a copper refinery was supposed to bring prosperity and people to the island. However, copper prices plummeted within ten years of the refinery's opening and led to its premature closure and a drop in the island's population.
The refinery was not demolished after its closure, and despite being out of business for almost a century, its ruins still characterize Inujima's landscape. Designated as a heritage of industrial modernization, the ruins with their exposed brick walls, overgrown power plant and crumbling smokestacks can now be explored by tourists.
In 2008, the refinery ruins were converted into the Inujima Seirensho Art Museum (seirensho is Japanese for refinery) by tastefully incorporating an art gallery into the ruins. The gallery is located mostly underground and uses local materials such as granite and discarded bricks from the refinery. Among the small number of artworks on display are an intriguing tunnel of mirrors and a tribute to the late novelist Mishima Yukio, which consists of pieces of Mishima's former residence suspended in midair.
Admission tickets to the art museum are purchased at a Inujima Ticket Center next to the ferry terminal, a 200 meter walk from the refinery's gates. While in the past it was necessary to make advance reservations for a guided tour of the site, it is now possible to explore it on an individual basis without prior appointment.
The rest of Inujima is occupied by a small rural village, which is home to about one hundred people. Scattered across the small, peaceful village are the five galleries of the Inujima Art House Project which were built for the art festivals in 2010 and 2013 and have become permanent attractions on the island. They can all be explored in a pleasant 1-2 hour walk through the narrow lanes of the village.
Dining, shopping and lodging options are highly limited on the island. A couple of small restaurants are found in the proximity of the port, including a cafe inside the Inujima Ticket Center. The Seirensho Art Museum also has a cafe on its grounds, but outside of summer it is sometimes closed even when the museum is open. A beach with campground is found on the opposite side of the island, about a ten minute walk from the ferry terminal.
From Okayama (How to get to Okayama)
Take the JR Ako Line from Okayama to Saidaiji Station (20 minutes, 240 yen, two trains per hour) and change to a bus bound for Higashi Hoden (東宝伝). Get off at the Nishi Hoden (西宝伝) bus stop (1 hour, 510 yen, 3-4 departures per day), which is a short walk from the ferry terminal from where ferries leave for Inujima once every 1-2 hours (10 minutes, 300 yen one way). See timetable.
From Naoshima (How to get to Naoshima Island)
Three ferries per day operate between Naoshima (Miyanoura Port) and Inujima, except on Tuesdays from March to November. In winter, the ferries operate from Friday to Monday only. Ferries operate on national holidays, but not on days that the art facilities are closed. Some ferries make a stop at Teshima along the way. The one way trip between Naoshima and Inujima takes about 40-60 minutes and costs 1850 yen.
Inujima Seirensho Art Museum & Inujima Art House Project
Hours: 10:00 to 16:30 (entry until 16:00)

Great Seto Bridge ★Japan Vlog 5★ (2014)
I was a little hung over in the morning after the night before. After having breakfast we go and explore Tokushima to check out a mall, find a scary card game, & a Game Center. We then leave Tokushima to go to Fukuoka City. On the way to Fukuoka we stop at the Great Seto Bridge on Yoshima Island, watch a dinosaur eat people, & eat lunch. After arriving in Fukuoka we had dinner together eating raw chicken. Raw chicken was the best and I loved it.
