Churchill trail in Westerham, England
This was our first outing when we arrived in the UK. A humble, quaint little town with a very historical background. This trail was just the beginning of a hour long walk to Winston Churchills house, which is now a bomb shelter. Just kidding, its open to the pubic for a tour =P

Time Out Walks, Book 1, Walk 36, Borough Green to Sevenoaks. 27/1/13.
The beginning of this 9.3 miler from Borough Green was familiar terrain, having done 'Walk 50' some months prior to this one. After Basted though, it's on to pastures new, literally, as some of the former orchards have now been cleared, it would seem, reflecting the demise of our fruit industry, unfortunately.
Lunch is taken at Plaxtol church, rather than the suggested Ightham Moat, though there are picnic tables available there, as was recalled later.
After Ightham, there's a bit of road walking prior to a stretch of muddy bridleway before some more woodland walking. This leads on to the grounds of Knole Park, with it's house and deer, before some more road walking back to the station.
Another pleasant walk through some classic Kentish scenery, though the decline of the orchards, and it's associated wildlife (a favourite haunt of the now elusive Bullfinch) is a concern.
WALKING IN KENT | EYNSFORD
I was joined by Candice again on our 5th date together, for a 5 mile walk in and around Eynsford in Kent. This walk had loads of history, including 2 castles, a church and even a Roman Villa! It followed a section of the Darent Valley Path with views of the River Darent and some stretches of woodland walking through Lullingstone Park.

Seven Oaks Preserve Trail, NC
This natural surface trail is open to biking and hiking and is located on 78 acres of property conserved by the Catawba Lands Conservancy. The trail connects to the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden's trails, creating a 5-mile loop from the trailhead.
This 2.8-mile natural surface trail meanders along the shoreline of Lake Wylie and is located on 78 acres of preserved land managed by the Catawba Lands Conservancy. The trail also connects to other trails at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, including two segments at either end of the trail that create a 5-mile loop from the trailhead at the Seven Oaks Preserve Trail. The Persimmon Trail connects to the garden's parking lot. Visitors can continue along the back side of the parking lot along the Boulevard Trail and can then pick up on the Worrell Trail. The Worrell Trail connects back to the Seven Oaks Preserve Trail and finishes the loop. Visitors do not have to pay the garden to walk on their trails.
*Special Note: Bicycles are allowed on the Seven Oaks Preserve Trail BUT NOT ALLOWED on the garden's trails. Please do not ride in wet conditions.
This preserve protects sensitive areas around the lake and safeguards habitat for wild turkeys, turtles and native wildflowers. In the spring, visitor will enjoy the fragrant scent of blooming snowbell (Styrax grandifliou). Seven Oaks Preserve also has some magnificent swamp chestnut oak trees (Quercus michauxii) along the lake. This impressive species has a rich history in the lowland areas with their wood once serving to make farm baskets. The swamp chestnut oak trees also produce large, sweet acorns that are an important food for many animals. In addition to these unusual oaks, there are huge tulip poplars (Liriodendron tulipifera), paw paws (Asimina triloba) and persimmon trees (Diospyros virginiana). Opreys, eagles, and kingfishers are occasionally seen flying over the water.

Views Around Rochester, Kent, England - 3rd June, 2014
Rochester is a town and former city in the unitary authority of Medway in South East England. It is at the lowest bridging point of the River Medway about 30 miles (48 km) from London. The town was for many years the favourite of Charles Dickens, who lived nearby at Gads Hill Place, Higham, and who based many of his novels in the area.
This film features views around the town of Rochester in Kent, England on a walk from the River Medway bank on the Strood side of Rochester Bridge, across the bridge, with extensive views of the River Medway, Rochester Bridge and Rochester Castle. From here the walk goes down the High Street taking in the sights of the Guildhall Museum, Boley Hill and Rochester Cathedral.
This is a lovely historic town, only a short train ride away from London, and I would recommend it to other travellers.
Time Out Walks, Book 1, Walk 23, Otford to Eynsford. 13/1/13.
This is another shortish walk of 8.8 miles in the county of Kent.
Setting out on a bright day, with a bitter wind, the walker is soon leaving the station behind and passing 'Uranus', one of Otford's Solar System miniatures. Thereafter, it's across fields and along lanes for some fine views from Meenfield Wood. Then, there's a gentle descent into the pretty village of Shoreham where lunch can be had at any one of three hostelries, or, in this case, in the porch of the fine village church.
Reinvigorated, the walker continues along the Darent Valley Path to then join The Millennium Footpath for a section of uphill walking. As usual from heights, the views offer great recompense. There's then some woodland walking before coming out onto a golf course, with some fine views, and then reaching Lullingstone Park, with its Visitor Centre and Castle.
Thereafter, it's on past Lullingstone Roman Villa, and under an impressive Victorian rail viaduct before an optional detour to another castle ruin at Eynsford (not taken today). Eynsford rail station follows shortly after.
Another impressive shorter walk that is just over half an hour from Central London.
(First Snowdrops of the season seen today outside the church wall of St Bartholomew's, and what appeared to be ludicrously early Primroses in Mill Lane, Shoreham, though neither filmed, unfortunately).

South Downs Way Parham House Amberley Walks, South Downs Walks In West Sussex, Hiking In England, UK
South Downs Way, Parham House, Amberley Walks was about 7.75 miles in distance. The terrain of the route was a combination of field, woodland and hill paths and tracks; plus parkland drives and some short quiet country lane and road sections. The walking was mostly easy on level or undulating ground with gradual slopes except for one steep ascent. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. Some of the paths and tracks were a little muddy in places. There were 4 stiles to negotiate.

KNOCKHOLT TO OTFORD GOOD PLACES TO HIKE NEAR LONDON
This walk approaches the familiar walking territory around Shoreham and Otford in Kent from an unfamiliar angle, passing at first over wooded hills, then climbing up and over a steep ridge to get down to Shoreham. In the first 3km/2 miles of the walk there is some traffic noise from the M25, but how much depends on the way the winds are blowing and other atmospheric factors. As you approach Shoreham this fades.
In the afternoon the route largely reverses the morning of the Otford Circular walk (Book 1, walk 43 on this website), though with one twist that introduces the lovely hidden valley of Magpie Bottom, now a nature reserve, with fine downland flowers and butterflies in the summer.
The walk also has several nice bluebell woods, particularly (but not exclusively) in the latter part of the walk, and in autumn there are lots of beech and sweet chestnut woods to provide colour. In winter the walk is not over-afflicted with mud, but the descents into Shoreham and Otford can be a bit slippery.

Broadstairs - a lovely seaside town in Kent, England, UK, home of Hilderstone College
Hilderstone College is located in the lovely seaside town of Broadstairs in Kent, on the south-east coast of England. There are many restaurants, pubs and coffee bars where you can meet friends. Close by there are also shopping centres, cinemas, theatres, music venues, bowling alleys, sports centres and markets.
The old part of Broadstairs still retains the beauty of a picturesque fishing village. During the 19th century Broadstairs became popular with members of the royal family and famous artists and writers. Charles Dickens wrote much of his work here and called it his beloved Broadstairs. The town remains popular with visitors today.
