The Severan Bridge (also known as #Cendere Bridge or #Septimius #Severus Bridge; is a late #Roman #bridge located near the ancient city of #Arsameia (today #Eskikale), 55 km north east of #Adıyaman in southeastern #Turkey.

Karakus Royal Graves and Cendere Bridge, Southeastern Turkey
The Karakus Royal Graves (Tumulus) belonged to the Commagene Empire and was constructed by Mithridates II as a memorial to his mother. Four columns surrounded the site with large figures on top of two columns. A third had an inscribed slab on top explaining the burial mound held female relatives, yadda yadda.... A little underwhelming but the Cendere Bridge made up for it.
The most impressive Cendere Bridge was built by the Romans in the 2nd century A.D. in honor of Emperor Septimius Severus, his wife, Julia Domna and sons Caracalla (think Roman Baths of Caracalla) and Geta. (All this information is on a stele.) Cendere Bridge spans the Kahta River in a single arch and was constructed of 92 stones that each weight about 10 tons!
Now, that's what I call a bridge!!

Mazar swimming in southeast Turkey, not far from the city of Adiyaman, below the famous Roman Cendere Bridge. It is one of the best preserved Roman structures in Turkey. Built between 198 and 200 CE by the XVI legion (XVI Flavia Firma), the bridge crosses the Cendere River at its narrowest point. The Cendere Bridge facilitated the military campaign of Septimus Severus in the Parthian Empire and Mesopotamia.
