Highley mining memorial
closure of the colliery in 1969
The mine closed in the late 1960s due to subsidence and waterlogging. The bridge remained open to bridleway traffic only, due to subsidence from the steep valley sides. The mine area on the Alveley (east) side was converted into an industrial estate in the late 1960s as coal mining ceased, and subsequently landscaped into the Severn Valley Country Park in the late 1980s. Initially this was as an exercise to use trees to shore up the coal spoils, and later as a tourist destination which now includes public artwork and a sculpture trail, the Seam Pavement Trail. above copied from wikipedia.

Severn Sunday Steam - 26/04/15 SVR
Today was what we regard as one of the best and most enjoyable filming days on a heritage preserved railway. It was a absolute pleasure to film and record a section of the SVR's home steam locomotive fleet in what we saw as tremendous filming weather conditions with the stars, as always the engines performing in top notch style.
The videos running over consists of the following:
- 34053 'sir Keith park' SR Battle of Britain class running northbound Highley gradient
- 43106 mogul 2-6-0 Ivatt arriving into Country Park Halt
- 43106 departing
- 4566 Ex GWR BR small prairie tank running south along side the national cycle route 45
- 7812 'Erlestoke manor' 7800 manor class 4-6-0 racing north past the previous site Alveley Halt
- 34053 'sir Keith park' SR Battle of Britain class running southbound to Kidderminster on the 15:15
Hope you enjoy the footage!
Places of England: Bridgnorth (Season 2: Episode 7)
For this 7th episode of the 2nd season of the 'Places of England' series, we will be looking at the big town of Bridgnorth in central Shropshire. I will take a look at its special landmarks, such as Bridgnorth Castle, St. Leonard's church, St. Mary Magdalene church, Severn Valley Railway, etc. along with looking at its generic buildings too.
