The third finalist in Home of the Year 2018 is a wonderful response to a rear infill site in Miramar, Wellington. Sitting down a very steep driveway, the Miramar House by Andrew Sexton manages to achieve a sense of privacy despite surrounded by neighbours.

Veterans Double Time Jig 1989
Veteran events are sometimes held at major competitions and are a opportunity for retired highland dancers to have some fun. This Irish Double Time Jig was held at the New Zealand championships in Timaru 1989. Copy of video footage by Mats Melin.
Sumo superman Mako Vunipola led the c harge in England's defeat of Ireland
Subscribe to our channel: superman: Mako Vunipola led the charge in England's defeat of Ireland. Not since the passing of Sir Roger Moore has a left eyebrow done as much work as that of Mako Vunipola.
As he speaks it dances, taking on a life of its own, rising and falling for added emphasis, at times mesmerising, at others an unstoppable force. If that is what his eyebrow is like, you think, imagine trying to handle the rest of him.
The same could be said of his brother, Billy, or of Courtney Lawes, the replacement who arrived in the game as if shot out of a cannon.
‘You never know what’s going to happen until someone punches you in the face,’ said Billy.
‘You can plan all you want, but if you’re not ready mentally and physically to stand up to that challenge…’
By now Mako’s eyebrow would have been going berserk, but the point was well made.
England gave Ireland a metaphorical bloody nose, and by fair means, not foul, bar Tom Curry’s sin-binning.
On the day he came into the job, Eddie Jones spoke of wanting to get England playing English rugby again, and this was probably the nearest to it in his time.
He has enjoyed big wins, successful tours and tournaments, but against an Ireland team that has defeated the All Blacks twice and has never lost a Six Nations game at home under Joe Schmidt, this performance was the high water mark of Jones’s reign.
It was a serious statement of intent in World Cup year, too. Jones won’t hear of that, with a Grand Slam to play for first, but results like this, and the timing of them, is important.
In summer 2003, before travelling to the southern hemisphere for the World Cup in the autumn, Sir Clive Woodward took England on a mini-tour, playing New Zealand in Wellington and Australia in Melbourne. They won both matches — only the second time an England team had won in New Zealand, and the first ever Test win in Australia.
That blew away any doubts that they could beat Australia on home turf — which is exactly what they had to do in the final. Jones would remember that, being Australia’s coach at the time, and reminded of it even he had to concede that, in a World Cup year, some results have significance beyond their immediate sphere.
‘What a result like this does is give you the confidence to work harder,’ said Jones. ‘So in that way, yes, it’s very positive. But having been involved in three World Cups, the only period when it is important to have the team at its best is just before the competition.
‘We’re a long way from that, and it is really hard to sustain absolutely outstanding performances for that time, because the game is so exacting.
‘Look at what Mako Vunipola did today — he’s 125kg, that’s big enough to be a sumo wrestler, and he’s making 27 tackles, he’s making 11 carries, he’s scrumming, he’s lifting in the lineout. The intensity of the game is such that you’ve actually got to work out when you want to peak and when you need to take it off a bit.’
To that end, Jones claims he is only now beginning to work on England’s attack having got the rest of their play — defence and set-pieces — stable. Fine tuning will involve better game management, maintaining concentration when modern rugby contains so much hanging around.
Jones compared it to professional golfers needing to stay focused for five hours when the tiniest fraction of that time involves hitting the ball.
It was one aspect of the Dublin display that particularly pleased Jones; that his team arrived with a plan and adhered to it until the last. ‘We could have got seduced with the way the game was going and we didn’t,’ he added.
Jones likes his football people and his football analogies, so one hopes he would take it as a compliment that to explain England’s tactics to a rugby layman, the most apt comparison would be the gegenpressing style of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
The defensive line speed was
Botanical gardens napier
n 1854, Commissioner of Crown Lands Alfred Domett arrived at Ahuriri with instructions from the Colonial Secretary in Wellington to survey and prepare a plan for the yet un-named town of Napier.
In a letter accompanying his draft survey, Domett said he had set out various reserves to provide areas for a cemetery, police station, hospital, school and botanical garden.
In 1855, he recommended that 18 acres be set aside for a botanical garden and 4.5 acres for a cemetery. By 1874, when Napier was declared a borough, the Provincial Government had already established the Botanical Gardens.
Early caretakers, Burness and Burton began the task of landscaping and planting an unpromising site. The terrain was difficult, the budget was small and only prison labour was available to help develop the gardens. To combat droughts during those early years, use was made of the wells that were sunk in the lower gardens for the 65th Regiment.
Until Napier South was reclaimed, the gardens were the town's only public park. Little money and effort were invested in them through the two world wars and during the Depression. By 1960, they were in a sorry state, serving mainly as a shortcut up the hill to Napier Hospital.
In 1961, a duck pond and an aviary for 'free-flying' budgerigars were built as part of a programme aimed at improving the Botanical Gardens and boosting its popularity. The Napier City Council undertook a big clean-up and name-tagged specimen trees, many of which were, by then, approaching 100 years of age.
In 1970, the terracotta fountain in the upper area of garden was restored although more recently lost its upper tier to vandalism.
The gardens' historical features include the Military Track, which ran alongside the cemetery, the building site of the old sexton's cottage, the disused military well and pre-European Maori middens.

Louisiana Mysteriously Rocked by Loud Boom/Ground Shaking/Windows Breaking/Ash Falling from Sky
Northwest Louisiana authorities are investigating the source of whatever shook people's residences and businesses about 11:40 p.m. Monday. The Webster sheriff's office now is entertaining the possibility that it may have been a meteorite, possibly in the Dixie Inn area. There have been a large number of reports stating that they saw something come down instead of something blow up, a spokesman said. And a woman reported hearing what sounded like debris hit a shop on Bellevue Road in the Dixie Inn area.If it was a meteorite, that would fall to NASA and the Air Force to investigate. A spokeswoman for Barksdale Air Force Base public affairs said that the installation is investigating and that whatever the source, it didn't originate at the base.Webster authorities still don't know what it was or where it hit, Sheriff Gary Sexton just said. Thermal-imaging cameras showed nothing off Elmo Burton Loop near Dixie Inn, but helicopters are expected to be in the air this morning to survey the area along U.S. 80 and Interstate 20 for the cause of what caused the ground to shake.Reports of the shaking came in from Lake Bistineau, Springhill, Sibley and Barksdale Air Force Base.Sexton earlier said he was driving in the Springhill-Cullen area when he saw two flashes from the south. One report says it shook the Webster Courthouse in Minden.A resident of the Lake Bistineau area reports that it almost shook their house off its foundation.A number of reports of a loud boom, shaking, rattling and possible damage -- including broken windows -- in the area west and northwest of Minden have been coming into the National Weather Service office in Shreveport. I don't have any idea what it was, Mark Murphy said. A lot of calls have mentioned all kinds of scenarios, but I don't know for sure anything. No earthquake is being reported in this area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's real-time earthquake map.And a Calumet spokesman says windows shook in the Cypress Lake area, north Bossier Parish and western Webster Parish and that the source is not the company's facility in Cotton Valley nor is it the Princeton location.
