Making noodles in a small Chinese village
In this video I filmed as we were making Chinese spinach noodles in my husband's hometown in Qinghai. Well, I filmed the making of spinach noodles, but we had no spinach left and instead had normal noodles... Anyways, this is a fantastic way to get fresh noodles in our small Chinese village. There are quite a few families with a noodles making machine, and you simple just pay a few kuai and hand over your flour - and viola, they give you noodles back!
I feel so grateful to have the chance to experience daily life in rural China, and I think simple things like this makes life so much lovelier. Living in China I could, for the first time ever, get so many types of noodles without having to visit a supermarket. My parents-in-law grow their own food wheat, as well as rapeseed and vegetables. The best meals are the ones where everything comes from our own fields and garden here in Qinghai.
OBS! This video was filmed in 2018! But I never got around to edit it until now.

Growing up in rural China in the '60s!
REMEMBER TO SWITH SUBTITLES ON! Growing up in rural China 1966, meant a life of changes and reforms. It was hard times, and good times. It was life - but very different from what I, as a westerner, has ever known. In this video I interview my Chinese mother-in-law about her life in rural Qinghai, northwestern China, and about how her life has changed since she was born in the '60s, and with special focus on the opening up and the reforms that took place from 1978 and onwards. The video is a collaboration with China Matters, an online China news source - check out the links below!

› MORE ABOUT THE VIDEO:
My Chinese mother-in-law, Bao Shoumei, was born in 1966 in a small village in Qinghai province in western China. She grew up with her eight sisters during a time where China went through many changes. In 1978, when she was 12 years old, the economic reform took place and common people could start making personal profit and start their own business. Two years after, in 1980, the land was divided up between the household and farmers could decide for themselves what to grow, and they could also sell their produce.
These changes also brought about change in daily life in these rural area - life quality kept improving. The difference between the life of my MIL and that of my husband was big. And if you compare it to the life of our 5 year old nephew, the changes are tremendous.
It is easy to come to this village today and immediately judge it as poor and underdeveloped, but when you hear the stories form people who have lived there their entire life, you also get to see where they came from and not only where they are now.
The stories of the changes in China during the last 40 years (since the reforms and the opening up) will differ depending on which part of China you observe. I hope that my MIL's story will bring a new perspective to your understanding of the diversity of the way of life in this massive country.

My husband put his friend on fire and wrapped me in ginger | Traditional Chinese Medicine
My husband has been studying Chinese medicine for a while now, and I visited him at his teacher 's place in Wuxi, where I got wrapped in ginger and his friend put on fire. He also gave me a somewhat unusual massage.
These techniques are developed by Yonghong's teacher. The ginger wrapping is supposed to detoxify the body, by making the person sweat out all the toxics in the body. The fire treatment is to release tensions in the body, which might cause (or already have caused) illness.
I didn't do the fire treatment, I was a little too scared. Might try it next time though. But the ginger wrapping and the massage was wonderful!
Have you ever tried traditional Chinese medicine? Let me know what you thought!

Traditional Swedish music, handicrafts and dancing: Korröfestivalen 2019
Because of rights etc, I was not able to include any of the music that we actually listened to at the festival, but had to add other music while editing. Although I'm happy with my choices, it is obviously not the same atmosphere as live music. If you are interested in traditional Swedish music, I would highly recommend going here - it was amazing!

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

SUMMARY
=======
Beijing (, nonstandard ;
Mandarin pronunciation: [pèi.tɕíŋ] (listen)), formerly romanized as Peking, is the capital of the People's Republic of China, the world's third most populous city proper, and most populous capital city. The city, located in northern China, is governed as a municipality under the direct administration of central government with 16 urban, suburban, and rural districts. Beijing Municipality is surrounded by Hebei Province with the exception of neighboring Tianjin Municipality to the southeast; together the three divisions form the Jingjinji metropolitan region and the national capital region of China.Beijing is an important world capital and global power city, and one of the world's leading centers for politics, economy and business, finance, education, culture, innovation and technology, architecture, language, and diplomacy. A megacity, Beijing is the second largest Chinese city by urban population after Shanghai and is the nation's political, cultural, and educational center. It is home to the headquarters of most of China's largest state-owned companies and houses the largest number of Fortune Global 500 companies in the world, as well as the world's four biggest financial institutions. It is also a major hub for the national highway, expressway, railway, and high-speed rail networks. The Beijing Capital International Airport has been the second busiest in the world by passenger traffic since 2010, and, as of 2016, the city's subway network is the busiest and second longest in the world.
Combining both modern and traditional architecture, Beijing is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a rich history dating back three millennia. As the last of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, Beijing has been the political center of the country for most of the past eight centuries, and was the largest city in the world by population for much of the second millennium A.D. Encyclopædia Britannica notes that few cities in the world have served for so long as the political headquarters and cultural center of an area as immense as China. With mountains surrounding the inland city on three sides, in addition to the old inner and outer city walls, Beijing was strategically poised and developed to be the residence of the emperor and thus was the perfect location for the imperial capital. The city is renowned for its opulent palaces, temples, parks, gardens, tombs, walls ...

He has been awarded the Level 8 at Martial Arts in China.
Master Niu inherited his family traditional knowledge and since his childhood he was trained by his father Niu Jinbao at the Health Preservation Program of the Taoist Longmen Pai.
Niu started to learn Taiji and the fighting techniques of General Yue (Yue Shi San Shou), Kun Wu swordsmanship, Chun Yang swordsmanship, etc from Master Yang Fengxiang.
From 1959 to 1966, Niu followed Master Li Tian Ji to practise boxing and swordsmanship of Taiji.
The following few years, during the Cultural Revolution, Li Tian Ji stopped teaching.
In 1975, Niu took up his study with Master Li Tian Ji and learned Xingyi Quan, Bagua Zhang, Taiji Quan and Wudang swordsmanship. Master Niu is accomplished in the martial arts of Xingyi, Taiji, Bagua and Wudang Sword.
From 1973 to 1981, Master Niu began his coaching career in Taiji in the Worker's Club of Dongcheng District in Beijing. His team won 3-year championships in Beijing Employee's Martial Arts Competition, from 1979 to 1981.
From 1980 to 1985, Master Niu became the coach of Xingyi in Dongcheng Martial Arts Hall in Beijing; meanwhile he was also engaged as the coach of Xingyi, Bagua and Taiji in Chongwen and Chaoyang Districts.

In 1998, the book Health Preservation of Taoism, written by Niu, was published in Guangzhou and has been sold out till now.
In 2003, an article named You ruined my Taiji was posted in the martial arts website and got strong responses. The article was criticizing the wrong approach to Taiji by many University Wushu instructors
.In January 2006, Niu, on behalf of Martial Arts Team of Peking University, was invited by Mr. Chen Jian (deputy secretary-general of the U.N.) and Dr. Su Lihuang (World Harmony Foundation) to attend the 2nd World Chinese People Spring Festival Party held in New York.
There, he performed Taiji Quan and Wudang swordsmanship.

The aged Zhang defeated his counterpart with overwhelming superiority and resulted in 15:0. After the match, the audience asked Zhang about his Kungfu's origin, and he replied that this Xingyi martial art was inherited from Sun Lutang, through Master Li Tian Ji and Niu Shengxian.
