I went on a day trip to beautiful Shamian Island in Guangzhou with my friend.
Shamian Island 沙面島 has a lot of history in Guangzhou China. Many westerns use to live here. This Island has Western influence.

Take the metro line 1 or line 6 and go to Huangsha metro exit F

After arriving in Guangzhou, we checked into our hotel, and after a short rest, we headed out! Our first stop was to visit Shamian Island. We took the Metro there, very easy. This is part 1 of the video.

The Canton Tower or Guangzhou Tower (simplified Chinese: 广州塔; traditional Chinese: 廣州塔; Cantonese Yale: Gwóngjāu Taap), formally Guangzhou TV Astronomical and Sightseeing Tower is a 604 metres (1,982 ft) tall multi-purpose observation tower in the Haizhu District of the city of Guangzhou (historically known as Canton), in Guangdong
Shamian (also romanised as Shameen or Shamin, both from its Cantonese pronunciation) is a sandbank island in the Liwan District of Guangzhou, Guangdong province .
The territory was divided into two concessions given to France and the United Kingdom by the Qing government in the 19th century. The island is a gazetted historical area that serves as a tranquil reminder of the colonial European period, with quiet pedestrian avenues flanked by trees and lined by historical buildings in various states of upkeep. The island is the location of several hotels (White swan hotel), a youth hostel, restaurants and tourist shops selling curios and souvenirs.

Shamian Island is one of the top tourist attractions in Guangzhou China. It's an island that has historical significance to the city of Guangzhou. Follow me as I check out this this very peaceful and nice island within the bustling city of Guangzhou. Its a fantastic place to go to escape the crowded streets and the noise of the rest of the city.
Best way to get there is by the Guangzhou Metro on Line 1 - Huangsha Station

The island is great for taking all kinds of pictures as you can see, it also has many restaurants, coffee shops, clothing shops, and art galleries.

#Shamian Island
Shamian Island, previous known as Zhongliusha or Shicuizhou, is an elliptic sandbar in the Liwan District of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. The island's name literally means sandy surface in Chinese. Surrounded by water. Shamian Street 1 to the Street 5 divide the whole area into 12 parts, with various buildings, namely White Swan Hotel, Shamian Hotel, and Poland Consulate in Guangzhou, scattered around.
#What to Do on Shamian Island
Shamian Island has great historic significance. From the Song (960 - 1279) and the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), it served as an important port for Guangzhou's foreign trade. Then, it became a strategic point for city defense during the second Opium Wars (1856-1860). In 1859, the territory was divided into two concessions, given to France and United Kingdom (of which 4/5 went to the British and 1/5 to the French). It was then embanked and provided with streets, drainage, and imposing buildings and became home to a prosperous foreign enclave.

By #Bus:
1. Take Sightseeing Bus Xiguan Style to Shamian.
2. Take bus 1, 9, 25, 57, 64, 75, 105, 181, 208, 209, 217, 251, 270, 297, 538, 552, 556, Guang 81, Guang 123, or Guang 281 to Shizhong Yiyuan.
By #Metro:
Take metro Line 1 or Line 6 to Huangsha station. Get out from Exit F and walk through an overpass to the bridge to reach the Island.

Shamian Island in Guangzhou is the best place to hang out, to stay, to enjoy the city.. at least in my opinion. This Island is right in the middle of the city and very convenient to the rest of the city, but it feels like a world away. It’s old, quiet, and beautiful. I highly recommend it. This is my quick tour.
There are a few hotels on the island you can stay at and I have stayed at a few of them. My favorite that also won’t break your pocket book, is the Guangdong Victory Hotel. It’s an historic hotel with great service on the island. There are nicer places to stay that, but this one has class and character.

Today we're visiting Shamian Island, probably the most romantic part of Guangzhou. It's a very peaceful place in the middle of this gigantic city. Shamian Island was the only part the foreigners were allowed in Guangzhou and as you can see this is why there are colonial style buildings.
