Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center Tour
The Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center / 上海城市规划展示馆 is located on People's Square, Shanghai, adjacent to the municipal government building. The Exhibition Center is a six-storey building, with two basement levels, which displays Shanghai's urban planning and development. The focus of the exhibit is a large scale model of the entirety of urban Shanghai, showing existing buildings and approved future buildings. Other exhibits relate to Shanghai's history and planned development, including smaller scaled models focussing on particular areas of interest such as the Bund. The Exhibition Center also has space for temporary exhibitions with a wide range of subject matter.
The Exhibition Center was built as part of the re-development of parkland at the edge of People's Park and around People's Square in the 1990s and 2000s. The Park and Square together occupy what was once the Shanghai racecourse, and today still make up one of the largest open spaces in central Shanghai.
The building was designed by architect Ling Benli of the East China Architecture Design & Research Institute (ECADI), as a harmonious balance to the Grand Theatre, another contemporary building at the other end of People's Square. The Exhibition Center is 43 metres (141 ft) high, has a white aluminium panel cladding and a symbolic membrane structure roof.
The centerpiece of the exhibition is a huge scale model of the city of Shanghai, showing all existing and approved buildings. Visitors can view the model from alongside or ascend to a gallery running around it for views from above.
The model is intended to represent the entire city, including all planned developments. However, a few support pillars penetrate the scale model. This means certain areas are missing from the model, and some views of the model are obscured by the columns.
Alongside the model is a small theatre room housing a 360° screen. The room plays a video giving the impression the viewer is flying through the Shanghai of the future, viewing notable locations including some of the Shanghai Expo 2010 pavilions.

Shanghai Exhibition, Nanjing Road, Xintiandi Former French Concession
Shanghai, China.
The first day in Shanghai we visited the Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan) where it's possible to find a nice collection of pottery, paintings, costumes, bronze, jade and furniture.
After that we walked by People's Square (Renmin Guang Chang) to reach the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. There are many floors dedicated to the history, transportation, subway, development, buldings, there's a VR 360 tour and a scale model of Shanghai.
Then we walked down Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road), a nice street with a lot of shopping and crowds.
Eventually we reached the nice area of Xintiandi full of restaurants where it was held the Shanghai Fashion Week 2017.

Openness, innovation and inclusiveness have become the most distinctive character of Shanghai, which is a vivid reflection of China's development and progress in the new era.
The film focuses on four aspects: Cultural Heritage, career persistence, innovation and development, and vitality and inclusiveness. They represent the inner texture, humanistic feelings, core drive and charm of Shanghai It fully demonstrates Shanghai's striving for excellence and Circle of Life.
Cultural Heritage enriches the inner texture of Shanghai
From the renovation of the Wukang building to the lectures of the Duoyun Academy, from the original painting of the Havoc in Heaven to the poster of the opening of the Shanghai International Film Festival, from the primary school students who experience the garbage sorting class to the residents in the street, the sorting is delivered regularly and fixed-point. Countless people meet here because they love it, and cities radiate light because of their faith. Customs Bell Watchman 28 years of CARE and persistence, subway drivers 10 years of standard and professional, APP designers for each frame of animation and strict. Shanghai is like a great ship in the voyage, carrying the original intention and persistence of all the people who live here.
Innovation and development are becoming the core drivers of Shanghai

Shanghai's World Expo Museum to Open in May
Shanghai's World Expo Museum is scheduled to open to the public for the first time and for free on May 1.
The museum is a partnership between the Shanghai government and the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE), the governing body of the World Expos.
The museum, spread over 46,000 square meters near Lupu Bridge and on the former Puxi Shanghai Expo site, is the only one of its kind in the world.
Inside, the museum will showcase exhibits from past World Expos. Already, over 200 participants from the 2010 World Expo Shanghai have donated more than 30,000 exhibits to the museum. An additional 700 exhibits have been donated from the 2012 World Expo Yeosu in South Korea.
As an official museum of the BIE, we conducted rigorous research and obtained many precious historical materials. Over the years, we collected over 1,000 files and nearly 300 minutes of video of the World Expos from 28 academic institutions and museums in 12 countries, said Liu Xiuhua, curator of the World Expo Museum.
Exquisite architectural models, valuable video footages and multimedia interactive activities will enable visitors to feel the glamor of previous World Expos.
The World Expo always focus on the problems of human development and response to the challenges with solutions and foresight. So by showing people what has happened in previous World Expos, we also want to inspire them to focus more on the key problems of our time, said Liu.

Shanghai Urban Planning Center
Chinese cities are required by law to set up a comprehensive planning system and to create a master plan. Since all urban land is the property of the state and is leased for development, both land-use decisions and government revenues depend on the planning process.
The best place to fathom Shanghais ambitious master plan and to comprehend the sprawling city is at the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, a monumental museum building in Peoples Square.
The major feature among many displays is a 8,000 sq. ft. city model at 1:200 scale that includes thousands of existing buildings, as well as
those approved for future construction. The immense model can be
viewed at ground level or from a mezzanine above. Another highlight is Virtual Shanghai, a computer-generated flyover of the idealized city projected onto a 360-degree screen.

Shanghai Manual 2016
The Shanghai Manual 2016 - A Guide for Sustainable Urban Development in the 21st Century was jointly presented on February 16, 2016 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York by the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations, the Shanghai Municipality, and the Habitat III Secretariat.
The publication, launched last October during the World Cities Day Forum within the Habitat III Conference in Quito, Ecuador, is a collection of case studies, experiences, and expertise drawn from around the world on how we can create a sustainable urban future together.
The first edition of the Shanghai Manual was presented in 2011, following the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China. The initial purpose of the Manual was to serve as a tool to support mayors and urban managers in achieving sustainable urban development in their communities.
The 2016 edition, which addresses a wide range of issues as well as contains analysis and model case studies, was compiled within the context of the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) and the New Urban Agenda, by the United Nations, the International Exhibitions Bureau, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China, and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.

Shanghai (Chinese: 上海, Mandarin pronunciation: [ʂâŋ.xài] (About this soundlisten), Wu pronunciation: [zɑ̃.hɛ] (About this soundlisten)) is one of the four municipalities under the direct administration of the central government of the People's Republic of China, the largest city in China by population, and the second most populous city proper in the world, with a population of 24.18 million as of 2017.[13][14] It is a global financial centre[15] and transport hub, with the world's busiest container port.[16] Located in the Yangtze River Delta, it sits on the south edge of the estuary of the Yangtze in the middle portion of the East China coast. The municipality borders the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north, south and west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.[17]
As a major administrative, shipping and trading city, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to trade and recognition of its favourable port location and economic potential. The city was one of five treaty ports forced open to foreign trade following the British victory over China in the First Opium War. The subsequent 1842 Treaty of Nanking and 1844 Treaty of Whampoa allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement and the French Concession. The city then flourished as a centre of commerce between China and other parts of the world (predominantly the Occident), and became the primary financial hub of the Asia-Pacific region in the 1930s.[18] However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, trade was limited to other socialist countries, and the city's global influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city. It has since re-emerged as a hub for international trade and finance; it is the home of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, one of the world's largest by market capitalization.[19]
Shanghai has been described as the showpiece of the booming economy of mainland China;[20][21] renowned for its Lujiazui skyline, and museums and historic buildings, such as those along The Bund, as well as the City God Temple and the Yu Garden.
