Phenomenal CHINESE FOOD at Shanghai Tower, the WORLD'S Second TALLEST Building | Shanghai, China
In April of 2019, I had the pleasure of being hired by a company in China to do a one-day job for them. But since I’d never properly vlogged China before, I decided to extend my trip to ten days so I could really explore and show you guys what this country is all about. I visited the cities of Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou and had the time of my life! I can’t wait to show you guys this amazing country!
My first full day in beautiful Shanghai, China continued on a chilly, cloudy afternoon. I started at The Bund and decided to head over to the Pudong area to visit Shanghai Tower, the second-tallest building in the world at over 2,073 feet tall.
The Bund is a beautiful, mile-long area that offers great views of the skyscrapers of Pudong. There are 52 buildings there, including banks, international trading houses, the Masonic Club, the Shanghai Club, and more. The buildings are so historical and the architecture there is amazing. It’s super clean and is a great spot to visit in Shanghai.
I headed to take The Bund sightseeing tunnel over to Pudong. I bought a ticket as well as one for the top of Shanghai Tower for 225 Yuan, or about $32 U.S. I’d never done this before, so I couldn’t wait to explore. There’s a cart you get in that takes you through a 2-minute light show through the tunnel. It’s so cool!
Next, I needed to head over to Shanghai Tower. It had been built when I first visited Shanghai in 2015 but wasn’t open then. On the way, I passed the Oriental Pearl, which I visited on my first visit. Here, there are walkways above the streets where you can see all the buildings of the financial center. The clouds parted on my way to the tower, so I’d get some great views!
I headed inside. The tickets to the observatory are 180 Yuan, or about $26 U.S. It’s so worth it to visit the highest observation deck in the world! You have to take the fastest elevator in the world to get up there. It takes less than a minute to reach the 118th floor!
My ears popped on the way up! I was so excited to be there. I love visiting observation decks. There was lots of fog outside the window, so I couldn’t really see out, but I could see down toward the ground. Even with the fog, the views were beautiful. The fog gave it a charm in a way. It’s crazy – every building that looked tall from the ground looked tiny from the observation deck! You can get some sick photos of the Shanghai Financial Center building there.
I went up to the 119th floor next, which is another deck. There are displays there that show how Shanghai has changed over the years. There’s also a lounge up there, so you can get some tea and a snack if you want.
I made my way back down and looked for Food Republic, which is at the exit of the observation deck. I’d been to other Food Republics around China and loved it, so I couldn’t wait to eat there!
Food Republic contains lots of different eateries with a big food court in the middle. You just look at the menus and see what you like. There are tons of food options here. I stopped at one called Hok Kee and went with stir-fried beef, oyster sauce, vegetables, and lemon tea.
I paid 35 Yuan, or a little over $5, for my food, got my number, and waited at a table. It’s super easy! The dish consisted of beef, eggs, herbs, noodles, and sprouts. The sauce was delicious and contained lots of refreshing vegetables. It was so tasty and earthy! There wasn’t much beef, but the noodles were fantastic. They were nice and thick. The sauce was rich and wasn’t spicy at all. The textures were outstanding!
I also got some black tea with lemon, which was great. The noodles were so filling, I couldn’t possibly eat anything else. You have to get this dish when you come to Shanghai!
