Description
Shark Arena at Stuart Cove's Bahamas 12 11 2017
This dive site is the Stuart Cove's shark arena. It is located on the West side of New Providence Island, Bahamas. The sandy area where the Caribbean reef sharks are fed is about 40' deep, and sits near a wall that drops down to 4,500 feet deep. The nurse sharks get fed a hundred feet away from this area to keep them away from the reef shark feeding area because when the nurse sharks eat, much of the food goes in their mouths and right out the gills. This chum soup confuses and agitates the Caribbean reef sharks. The divemaster and the cameraman from Stuart Cove's wear chain-mail bite resistant suits to keep them from being nipped by the sharks. The rest of the divers sit in a semi-circle and watch the spectacle, often while getting bumped by the sharks. Once in a while the sharks mistake a GoPro camera for the feeding stick, and our cameras got bit a couple times. I usually don't put the bloopers at the end of the videos, but this time I was compelled to. My dive buddy Nate had been spearfishing in the Gulf of Mexico a week before this and he was attacked by 3 sharks while spearing fish. One of them bit his dive fin and put a nice cut in it. Needless to say, Nate had a heightened awareness to the possibility of getting bitten. I had no choice but to capitalize on the situation at every opportunity...

The Bahamas, officially the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, is a country consisting of more than 700 islands, cays, and islets in the Atlantic Ocean; north of Cuba. The designation of Bahamas can refer to either the country or the larger island chain that it shares with the Turks and Caicos Islands. As stated in the mandate/manifesto of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Bahamas territory encompasses 470,000 km2 (180,000 sq mi) of ocean space.
Originally inhabited by the Lucayan, a branch of the Arawakan-speaking Taino people, the Bahamas were the site of Columbus' first landfall in the New World in 1492.
Although the Spanish never colonized the Bahamas, they shipped the native Lucayans to slavery in Hispaniola. The islands were mostly deserted from 1513 until 1648, when English colonists from Bermuda settled on the island of Eleuthera.

A Day in New Providence Bahamas - Visiting Clifton Heritage National Park
This is part 3 and the final part to Nicole and I's cruise to the Bahamas back in 2017. We were privileged enough to have Clifton Heritage Park all to ourselves for our morning snorkel out to an old sunken James Bond airplane and the beautiful sunken statue named Ocean Atlas, the largest underwater sculpture ever deployed underwater. With perfect flat conditions and amazing water clarity, this place was the jewel of our trip.

Nikki has a very short Bahamas Bucket list and seeing the underwater sculpture garden is on the top of it. Specifically she wants to see Atlas, the worlds largest underwater sculpture (worlds largest for now).
We're anchoring at JAWS beach in the West Bay of New Providence island. This island is the most populated island of all of the Bahamas so of course we'll have to re-provision before heading off. We've heard about this fresh grocery store in Nassau and we have to visit. We meet a couple new friends, do some snorkeling and have an all around jam packed 3 days before a big blow comes to push us out of paradise...but I guess that's life on the water.
Hope you enjoy, remember to give us a thumbs up and leave a comment, it really helps our channel grow.
Hugs from the sea,

Wrecks near New Providence Island, Bahamas
While filming an episode on sponges off New Providence Island, Bahamas, the Changing Seas crew and scientific research team happened upon two shipwrecks that were close to each other. These wrecks made for a great dive site, with some sponges encrusting the exterior of the ships. Does anyone know the names of these wrecks?

Bahamas Snorkel with Shark Encounter
I took a trip to the Bahamas at the end of November 2012 and went on a couple snorkeling excursions where I shot this video. The first half of the video was shot snorkeling off the west end of New Providence near Goulding Cay. Shortlly after I entered the water I ran into a caribbean reef shark which I followed to the edge of the reef. At the edge of the reef I noticed a few more sharks hanging out, including one large shark briefly noticable in the distance at the top of the frame. The seas were a bit rough that day so I apologize for the shakiness. The second half of the video was shot off of Rose Island to the east of Nassau where the water was much calmer and I was able to keep the camera more stable.
