DIVING in KEY LARGO !! LIVING OUR BEST LIFE / SHARKS !!!
This week we decided to head down to Key Largo and work our way through the Keys this year. It was amazing, the water was so clear and beautiful. It was exactly what a post card would look like. I now have a new found respect and desire to dive in open waters and will be focusing on getting my own equipment.
Captain Slate was who we dove with along with his daughter Sky. I highly recommend working with them.
Here is a little about Key Largo.
Key Largo is the first of the fabulous Florida Keys and is the self-proclaimed Dive Capital of the World. It is home to the world's largest artificial reef, the 510-foot USS Spiegel Grove, the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the African Queen. Everglades National Park is just a short trip away from Key Largo.

SHARK DIVE in KEY LARGO FLORIDA with VIBRANT COLORED REEF
Key Largo, Florida is known for many things. One of which is the most popular. That is SCUBA DIVING!! Established in 1963, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was the first undersea park in the United States. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and the adjacent Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, cover approximately 178 nautical square miles of coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove swamps. The park extends 3 miles into the Atlantic Ocean and is approximately 25 miles in length. These areas were established to protect and preserve a portion of the only living coral reef in the continental United States. The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 14, 1972 (wikipedia).
I have over 100+ dives in just this park alone! It is absolutely beautiful, such rich and luscious coral reefs with sharks, manatees, turtles, sting rays, jelly fish, and much much more. Come enjoy this little piece of beauty with all the vibrant colors and aquatic life.

2 Sharks | Reef snorkeling at Key Largo, Florida | Christ of the Abyss
This was my second time snorkeling at the Keys. We started of the John Pennekamp Beach, which is famous for a shipwreck , which sank there a couple of hundred years ago. By boat we came to the undersea park, which features approximately 178 nautical square miles of coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove swamps. There is possibly every fish species which exist in whole Florida, but i din`t consider sharks, because we were going out there in the afternoon and there have already been many ships before us. First of all I checkt out the Christ of the Abyss statue, which was imported from Italy and set up at this spot in 1962. After a while snorkeling around, I went further and further away from the group and suddenly there was he, a bull shark. This was my second contact with a shark, and again he impressed me. Sharks are so great, this one was like 10 feet /3,5m, but even so they can move so quickly or attack you. I hope you enjoyed my video; like and subscribe and have a nice day!
Blacktip Shark spotted during Key Largo, FL Dive
We spotted this shark near Elbow Reef, Key Largo, Florida on 03NOV2019. I think that it was a Blacktip Shark, but I'm not sure. The water was murky, and he was moving pretty fast, so it is not the best footage. I had a hard time keeping up with him, but I did manage to get some decent footage once I employed the zoom function on my camera.

QUICK FACTS
Molasses Reef is a coral reef located within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. It lies to the southeast of Key Largo, within the Key Largo Existing Management Area, which is immediately to the east of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. This reef is within a Sanctuary Preservation Area (SPA).
An unmanned reef light is located near the reef.
On August 4, 1984, the motor vessel Wellwood, a 122-meter freighter carrying pelletized chicken feed, ran aground on Molasses Reef. The total destruction from the grounding included 5,805 square meters of living corals and injury to 75,000 square meters of reef habitat. The vessel was removed by the US Coast Guard. NOAA coordinated an effort to restore damage to the reef, by placing reef modules in the injured areas to provide a substrate for new coral colonization. Biological restoration took place using transplants from Pickles Reef and the facilitation of coral larval settlement. NOAA settled a claim worth $6.275 million with the responsible parties, the Wellwood Shipping Company (owner of the vessel) and the Hanseatic Shipping Company (shipping management company), in 1986, and all payments to NOAA were completed by 2001

*GRAPHIC* SHARK BITES SPEARFISHERMAN IN FLORIDA KEYS
Check out our new video from a few recent trips!

The short clip of me getting bit by a 7-8ft reef shark. We were spearfishing near Middle Sambos reef off Boca Chica in the Florida Keys when this shark came up behind us.
He first went at my dive buddy Justyn but immediately turned toward me. He first bit my left fin then took a piece out of the right fin before biting my leg and cutting the speargun line. I assumed he was trying to steal the black grouper I was holding but, after I lost the grouper and watched it swim to the bottom, the shark kept coming at us! Justyn went back down for my gun and actually shoved it in the sharks mouth! The shark then took it straight to the bottom while we rushed back to the boat and safety. Always dive with a buddy and someone who is trained in first aid! I would not have made it back to the boat without the help of another strong swimmer and would have bled out had we not been able to apply proper first aid immediately. The shark tore through the skin, fat tissue, muscle sheath, muscle, and unfortunately my tibial artery which caused me to lose more than a liter of blood.
This clearly could have been much worse! Happy to still have my leg even with a piece missing! And we even got my Koah speargun back!!!

Florida Shark Diving
So about a month ago i went on my very first shark dive!! Since i was a little girl i have always been in love with the ocean! I would watch documentaries about the reef and i would always be so amazed by the undewater world. If ten years ago someone told me that when i turned twenty i would have been free diving with sharks i would have never belived them and yet it is true! From the moment i jumped in the water and saw three bull sharks below me, i reached a level of happiness that i never thought i was ever going to reach. Seeing this beautiful creatures gracefully swimming next to me it's amazing. Unfortunately sharks have a very bad reputation due to the movie jaws and the shark attacks that happen around the world but what people don't understand is that the moment you enter the ocean you are automatically in someone else's territory.Sharks are the apex predators in the ocean, they eat pretty much everything that comes along the way and most of the times they confuse us for their usual prey like turtles or seals. They don’t really like human blood that’s why they usually bite and then let go. Sadly sometimes it only takes one bite and that one could be fatal.
Sharks are one of the most ancient animals that exist. They have been around for more than 400 million years, have survived the climate change and they have adapted to the different circumstances and i am so grateful that i get to be in the water with them today. Respect them and they will in return amaze you!

Huge 10 ft Hammerhead Shark Bumps Diver in Florida Keys! || Islamorada Shark Encounter
We are currently filming for our new Florida Freedive & Adventure Series across the state and last week we made our first stop in the Florida Keys. On our second day we had a private boat tour at Robbies Of Islamorada with Captain Brian of Satisfaction Boat Tours to go lobstering and freediving. After catching a few lobster we headed out to an awesome spot called Alligator lighthouse where we swam with millions of fish and after seeing several baracuda I asked the captain if he knew of somewhere we could find bigger ones. About 5 minutes from the lighthouse there are 2 buoys in a deeper channel and as we pulled up we saw several 5 foot+ baracuda as well as a 10 foot hammerhead shark chasing them. We quickly geared up and got in the water where I dove down after a baracuda and once I was about 15 feet down I looked to my left and was face to face with the 10 foot shark. The shark circled me several times coming so close that he bumped me on the last pass. This was definitely one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life and we are super stoked on the footage! Enjoy, share, comment, like and subscribe for more!
Special thanks to Lavacore and Patricks Sunscreen for making this possible. Check back soon for the release of the Florida Freedive & Adventure Series!
