Great White Shark Cage Diving, Gansbaai, South Africa

Cage diving at its best in Gansbaai South Africa with Great White sharks - a perfect day! The best day all year according to the crew. Orcas had entered the bay over the previous month or so and killed some great whites. Consequently the sharks were spooked and sightings were minimal at best. With low expectations, we set out and had our first shark 20 minutes after dropping anchor. Long story short, we had 6 great whites over the 3+ hours we were anchored and plenty of shark activity around the boat the entire time. Despite the low visibility (1 meter) and cold water (14 C) we had dramatic encounters as sharks came closer to the cage due to the poor vis. Weather was excellent for winter with air temps near 65 F and sunny although windy.
