BULL SHARK DIVING IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN!!! (244 | Mexico Travel Vlog)
04 January 2019 - Playa del Carmen II
Day 22 - VLOG 244
Today is the today! We are finally putting on our wetsuit and tank and going out for diving!! Feels like forever since I've been scuba diving and it couldn't have been in a better place!
One of the popular things to do in Playa del Carmen (although slightly controversial) is to dive with the bull sharks. We go on the shark sighting side, but unfortunately not many sharks came out to play.
I then decided to join the shark feeding later that afternoon and it was incredible! 7-9 bull sharks were swimming around us as they were fed a late afternoon snack. So surreal watching these amazing docile creatures swim around you and be up so close!!
We end the day at the beach with an awesome sunset and finally got a chance to take Mav up for some spectacular views!! Definitely missed getting into the water and ending an awesome day flying Mav into the sunset!!

Diving with Bull Sharks in Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Here is a video shot by Marcel Gubern (oceanzoom.com) of our dive with the Bull Sharks in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. In the video, you see my husband, myself and our friend Leo Morales, a handicapped diver who challenges the meaning of disability. We went down to 80 feet and stayed in one line while two of the guides fed the sharks and one more watched our backs. Although we chose to do a feeding dive (you have the option of not feeding), the divers decided half way through the dive to stop feeding the sharks because they were already very excited on their own. The experience was fantastic! There were about 9 or 10 sharks swimming around us, plus a school of fish that kept blocking our view of the sharks! (One fish in particular was pretty annoying, biting our GoPros!) If you ever have an opportunity to do this, we highly recommend it! It was safe, fun and incredibly rewarding! The trip was led by Pepe Scuba Dive Shop — they were awesome!

Bull Shark Dive, Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen, Mexico, bull shark dive on February 21, 2019, with Phantom Divers.
Bull sharks account for the majority of human attacks, primarily because they frequent shallow, murky waters where they are more likely to encounter people and confuse them for food. They can also travel upstream and be unexpectedly encountered in freshwater rivers. In deep, clear water, they can easily differentiate between humans and fish. You realize quickly that you are no more interesting than a rock to these 7 foot, 350 pound bulls. All are female, they migrate to the warm waters of Playa del Carmen during breeding season from November to March. The feeders supply a small percentage of their daily food intake so as to not alter the bull's natural feeding habits. Only three dive shops offer feedings, and they maintain a strict schedule of feeding times and locations. Each diver donates 5 USD to the Saving Our Sharks NGO. Please refer to the instructional video below.
Bull sharks are the third most aggressive species of shark, and likely account for the majority of human fatalities:

Bull Shark Diving in Playa Del Carmen (Riviera Maya - Mexico) - Dressel Divers
Bull shark Excursion:
Bull sharks facts:
Our bull shark diving excursion in Playa del Carmen (Riviera Maya - Mexico) is a scuba dream come true for divers who want to experience a very thrilling dive. The Dressel Divers bull shark tour puts you face to face with these imposing animals and delivers a memorable adrenalin rush. Diving with them lets you meet up with wild sharks in their own turf and gives you a very close look at these imposing ocean inhabitants.
What brings them here? No worries! Not you, but perhaps like you the fresh water of the cenotes! Bull sharks can also swim in freshwater and seek its feeling. They are drawn to the freshwater cenotes pump out into the sea nearby the dive site and also the abundant food supply of fish and turtles in the area.
Don’t miss this amazing experience and enjoy swimming with bull sharks in Mexico. Would you like to know more about bull shark diving?

Diving with Bull Sharks.
Bull sharks can thrive in both salt and fresh water and can travel far up rivers. They have been known to travel up the Mississippi River as far as Illinois, although few freshwater human-shark interactions have been recorded. They are probably responsible for the majority of near-shore shark attacks, including many bites attributed to other species.
Unlike the river sharks of the genus Glyphis, bull sharks are not true freshwater sharks, despite their ability to survive in freshwater habitats.
The bull shark's diet consists mainly of bony fish and small sharks, including other bull sharks,[3] but can also include turtles, birds, dolphins, terrestrial mammals, crustaceans, echinoderms, and stingrays. They hunt in murky waters where it is harder for the prey to see the shark coming. Bull sharks have been known to use the bump-and-bite technique to attack their prey. After the first initial contact, they continue to bite and tackle prey until they are unable to flee.
The bull shark is known to be a solitary hunter, although brief moments exist in which the bull shark teams up with another bull shark to make hunting and to tricking prey easier.
Sharks are known to be opportunistic feeders, and the bull shark is no exception to this, as it is part of the Carcharhinus family of sharks. Normally, sharks eat in short bursts, and when food is scarce, sharks digest for a much longer period of time in order to avoid starvation. As part of their survival mechanism, bull sharks will regurgitate the food in their stomachs in order to escape from a predator. This is a distraction tactic; if the predator moves to eat the regurgitated food the bull shark can use the opportunity to escape.

Scuba Diving With BIG BULL SHARK MAMAS ???? in Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Diving with bull sharks – just a few hundred meters off Playa del Carmen’s coast ????????. Initially, this wasn’t our plan. Most diving operators around here feed the sharks during the dive, which means that you’re basically sitting on the ocean floor watching sharks being fed fish (by someone in a chain mail) ????⛓. Obviously, you get very close to the animals, but little is known about how regular feedings affect the shark’s behavior longterm ????.
But there are operators, like Elite Divers International, that offer dives without feeding. And that’s when you get to observe these impressive animals behaving naturally, curiously circling you. And off we went ????!
Stay curious and subscribe for more diving adventures!

Scuba diving the longest underwater river system | Yucatan Peninsula, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
#HighOnLife #HOLInspired #Mexico
Imagine deep underneath your feet are these dark caves that stretch on for hundreds of miles. Now imagine that these caves have been completely submerged in water for thousands and thousands of years. And that to navigate these caves, you’ve gotta scuba dive into it with flashlights. Pretty interesting right? According to our diving expert Kenzo, this was on the must-do, must-see list when we got back to Playa del Carmen.
Big thanks to El Taj Oceanfront and Beachside for hosting us.
Stay where we did:
The Yucatan Penisula is believed to be home of the longest underwater river system in the world. Watch as we explore Playa Del Carmen, scuba diving into a new world of hidden caves, sharks, cenotes and much more adventure.

My New invention than solves the two major problems when Diving with a GoPro. The lack of steadiness and the lack of light! Why two cameras? Because is nothing better than a GoPro video, wide open full screen HD, but for pictures at the same time, I rather to have my smartphone for sharing at the moment or any other camera with closer focus. #oshan #videodivingsystem #georgeoshan #shark #bullshark #underwater #neptunic #gopro #intova #seashell #housing #camera #lackof
