Active Analysis Sessions with Dr. Sharon Marie Carnicke
Sharon Marie Carnicke is an internationally known expert on the Stanislavsky System for actor training and on film acting.
Her books include Stanislavsky In Focus: An Acting Master for the Twenty-First Century (Second Edition), The Theatrical Instinct: Nikolai Evreinov and the Russian Theatre of the Early Twentieth Century, and the co-authored Reframing Screen Performance.
Her translations of Anton Chekhov’s plays have been produced nationally, with her Seagull winning a Kennedy Center award. Her translations are published as Chekhov: 4 Plays and 3 Jokes (nominated for the National Translation Award).
In addition to teaching at the University of Southern California, she has founded the Stanislavsky Institute for the Twenty-First Century and conducts an on-going laboratory workshop for acting in LA.
She has taught MASTER CLASSES on Stanislavsky’s Active Analysis throughout the US and globally, including intensives for Italy’s Metodifestival, in Finland and Puerto Rico, and at the National Institute for Dramatic Arts in Australia.
Sharon began acting at the American Shakespeare Festival Theatre in Stratford Connecticut at age twelve, and later appeared as an actor and dancer in New York on and off Broadway.
She has directed theatrical productions in New York, Los Angeles, and Moscow. Her direction of The Locked Room at New York’s Lincoln Center was a finalist for the Samuel French New Play award.

CONNECTICUT CALLING 1960s TRAVELOGUE HARTFORD, STRATFORD, NEW LONDON, MYSTIC SEAPORT 90224
This 1960s color educational film about Connecticut as part of the weekly TV series “America!” that was narrated by actor Jack Douglas. The Hartford skyline is followed by the gold-domed Capital Building. The window-washing method is shown for the two-sided boat-shaped Phoenix Life Insurance Company Building. Constitution Plaza is a commercial mixed-use development area. “The Safe Arrival” is a statue monument commemorating the first pioneers. Across from it is Center Church, where Thomas Hooker was minister (:30-2:18). The Wadsworth Atheneum Art Museum contains multiple art galleries. Shown in the Early America gallery are a pewter pitcher, earthenware jug, spinning wheel, 1620 wooden cradle, and 1842 patchwork quilt. The Modern American Gallery had on display Picasso’s Still Life with Fish, Van Gogh’s Red Poppies, Monet’s The Beach at Trouville, and Ruben’s The Tiger Hunt (2:19-3:42). The Mark Twain Memorial is a house he designed and lived in. His belongings on display are shown, including oil paintings, busts, and first editions of his books. Neighbor Harriet Beecher Stowe designed the plant conservatory (3:43-6:30). A reenactment of news of the Declaration of Independence takes place every July 4 (6:31-7:03). Shown at the Elizabeth Park rose garden are White Dorothy, Rubaiyat, Crimson Glory, Peace, and Tropicana roses (7:04-7:53). The Hill-Stead estate museum in Farmington is shown. The art gallery displays Whistler’s Seascape, Bodega’s Ballet Dancers, and Monet’s Haystacks. (7:54-8:45). Sharon, incorporated 1739, has a one-way covered bridge over the Housatonic River (8:46-9:19). A bird’s-eye view is given of Washington, taken from the expanse of forested hills. The First Congregational Church and Town Hall with its plaque, and the Green Drug Store are shown (9:20-10:38).The spectator’s entrance and racing cars are shown to the Lime Rock Park road racing center (10:30-11:01). Yale is located in New Haven (11:02-11:30). Stratford has the American Shakespeare Theatre (11:31-11:48). Ocean Beach at New London is full of sunbathers. The US Coast Guard Academy is shown (11:52-12:25). Fort Griswold has a stone obelisk monument. The view from the top down is shown. A plaque commemorates Col. William Ledyard (12:26-13:13). Essex has the Clipper Ship bookstore, the Village Smithy, and Griswold Inn. The Deep River Fife and Drum Corps wears authentic historic costumes as it parades, followed by the Essex Fife and Drum Corps (13:14-15:00). Beachgoers play at Stonington, which has the Old Lighthouse Museum overlooking the docks (15:01-15:42). Mystic Seaport is an authentic recreation of a mid-1800s coastal town for tourists to explore. The Charles W. Morgan wooden whaleship is docked there, as is the Schooner Bowdoin, the training ship Joseph Conrad, and the schooner L.A. Dunton (15:43-18:55). The Hadlyme ferry transports vehicles and people. The Gillette Castle, owned by actor William Gillette, is made of white oak and field stone. Its uniquely carved doors also have wooden locks. Japanese-imported raffia is used as wall coverings (18:56-21:15).

Costellos Promo Video
The Costellos; Lynn Johansen met Bob Costello late in 1991. Lynn began her career playing in a variety of bands on the Jersey Shore. Bobby C honed his skills throughout the Hudson Valley, NY. They formed a band called The Bandits. A few years ago they re-branded themselves as The Costellos. Throughout the years band members have included: Danny McLoughlin (played bass and produced their first two records), Sean, 'The Minnow' McCarthy (drums) and Mark Pukmel (drums). Tony DeMarco has also sat in on drums and has acted as their sound and video man. The Costellos have produced three records: 'Sygtagma Square', 'Roman Times' and 'Outside of Paris' which is presently offered on iTunes. They are currently putting the finishing touches on a new project that will be released in 2012. On the stage Bobby C and Lynn have performed with a number of major acts including: Jon Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, The Crash Test Dummies, NRBQ, Reverend Horton Heat, Danny Kalb (former member of the Blues Project) and America. They were also a featured act at Woodstock '94 in Saugerties, NY.
The Costellos have made several TV appearances including a spot on CNBC's show 'America's Talking.' Radio wise, The Costellos have had major rotation on Triple A stations including: WDST- Wood Stock, NY, WKZE- Sharon, CT and WVKR, Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY. The Costellos are based out of Beacon, NY. Their present lineup includes: Rheek Aparicio on bass and Mark Pisanelli on drums. Art Labriola, of Garrison, NY, sits in on lap steel, Dobro and pedal steel guitars. He also is producing The Costellos latest project, as mentioned, that will come out in 2012.

Mia Haas-Goldberg is a CISLA scholar and student of International Relations and History at Connecticut College. She is a member of the Women's Varsity Rowing team, a solo cellist and ukulelist, and a spoken word enthusiast. With a strong interest in human rights, immigration, and security studies, she is currently conducting research on the ability of French media to influence national reconciliation with France's Algerian and Tunisian past. She is an advocate of creative problem solving, reading for pleasure, and spending time outdoors.

Gallim Dance: Meet Andrea Miller
Born to a Spanish mother and American Jewish father Andrea grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. She began her training at the University of Utah's Children Dance Theatre followed by the Humphrey-Weidman technique with Ernestine Stodelle and Gail Corbin in Connecticut which led to her more formal dance training at The Juilliard School. Upon receiving her BFA from Juilliard, Andrea moved to Tel Aviv, Israel to join Ohad Naharin's Ensemble Batsheva, where she performed the works of Naharin and Sharon Eyal in Israel, Europe, and New York. Andrea has also had the privilege of dancing with numerous companies including Cedar Lake, Limon Dance Company and The Buglisi Dance Theatre.
In 2006 Andrea returned to New York City to establish Gallim Dance, a contemporary dance company that supports the creation and performance of her choreography. Andrea has been selected as one of Dance Magazine's 25 to Watch (January, 2009 Issue), and her work has been presented in the United States, Canada and Israel. Venues include Jacob's Pillow, Dance Theater Workshop, Joyce SoHo, Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, Battery Park, Movement Research at Judson Church, The Flea Theater, Clark Studio Theater, Martha Graham Studios, Paul Mellon Arts Center (CT), Teatron Suzan Delal (Tel Aviv), Studio Varda (Tel Aviv), and The Norman Rothstein Theatre (Vancouver). Andrea is the associate choreographer with Nord Nederlands Danse, 2009-2011. Andrea is the recipient of the Hubbard Street 2 Choreographic Competition, The Stella Adler Studio of Acting Artist in Residence (MAD AIR), the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council MCAF Grant, and the 1999 Choreographer Award from the Connecticut Shoreline Alliance for the Arts. Recent commissions include The Juilliard School, Repertory Dance Theater (UT), Zenon Dance Company (MN), and Arts Umbrella (Vancouver). She has choreographed for students at The Juilliard School, Alvin Ailey, SUNY Purchase, and New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble.
