Hi friends. We took a quick little trip to Sharp Island with a good friend of ours. Travelled from Shek Mun to Sai Kung by Double Decker and then onto a fishing boat that took us to Sharp Island. Truly appreciating the fact that we can enjoy both the busy life of HK and to be able to enjoy nature and peace all at the same time. Our boys had such a great time being outdoors, climbing on rocks, going on a hike, skipping rocks in the ocean. It was what we needed!!

'Sharp Island or Kiu Tsui Chau (Chinese: 橋咀洲) is the largest island in the Kiu Tsui Country Park located at Port Shelter of Sai Kung, Hong Kong.[1] Tourists go there for BBQ activities, fishing, swimming as well as diving. Sharp Island is under the administration of Sai Kung District.
The island has a maximum elevation of 136 m and an area of 1 km².[2] The two beaches Half Moon Bay Beach (廈門灣泳灘), also known as Hap Mun Bay, and Kiu Tsui Beach (橋咀泳灘) are located on the island.[1] Both are managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.[3]
When the predicted tides at Ko Lau Wan is lower than or equal to +1.40 meter, visitors can go to an inshore islet named Kiu Tau (橋頭) on foot. For more details, please visit the Hong Kong Observatory website [1].
Different kind of volcanic rocks can be found on Sharp Island. The most frequent ones are rocks with a peculiar pattern on the surface. Other rocks have an unusual pineapple shaped form.
It is believed that about 140 million years ago a volcano was located in Sai Kung. Sharp Island was according to that on the margin of the caldera. This is probably the reason for the widely distributed different volcanic rocks from different geological periods around Sharp Island.'

Touring the Geopark | Hong Kong Vlog #12
Hong Kong's UNESCO Global Geopark consists of volcanic hexagonal rock columns in Sai Kung. You can join a boat tour from the Sai Kung Promenade. Some companies only offer tours to Sharp Island, and others go all the way to High Island. Prices can range from 1000HKD to hire a boat with 13 spaces, or 250HKD per person in a shared boat.
Going to High Island and back in a fast boat will take roughly 2 hours.

Hong Kong's five best day walks - Episode 4 - Lamma Island
Lamma is the biggest of the car free outlying islands, making it perfect for a full day of exploration on foot. My root started at the northern tip and took me through thick jungle to Hung Shing Ye beach where the walk switches to a coastal hike to the fishing village of Sok Kwu Wan. If you are lucky, or unlucky depending on your love for all things wild, you may see a wild boar or python snake. Both are common sightings in Lamma’s outback. No need for a pack lunch on this trip with plenty of restaurants offering great seafood choices. There is a loop in the southern part of the island if you want to spend time at the beach or a walk to the southern trip where a ferry returns you to Hong Kong island.
Take the ferry from Aberdeen promenade to Pak Kok and walk on the path to the north tip of the island. Take a small path to the cable road, which you can follow through the jungle to Hung Shing Ye beach. From the far end of the beach continue south to Sok Kwu Wan and then along the coast to Mo Tat Wan from where you can take a ferry back to Aberdeen.

It comprises the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region (High Island, Un Kong Group, Ninepin Island and Sharp Island) and Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region (including Double Haven, Tolo Channel, PortIsland/Wong Chuk Kok Tsui and Tung Ping Chau), which showcase the important geological themes of igneous rocks and sedimentary rocks respectively.
