Shasta Lake Rangers off duty
This is a short video about our house boat adventure that went wrong. We were there for a vacation my gramdad thought would be nice. At one of the stops near the O'brian inlet we stoped for the night. My children and their cousins (6 children under 13 yrs old) went swimming, ate dinner and fed some deer that walked right up onto the front of our boat. Amazing right? Well I mentioned our trip went wrong,... so here it is,... a bow hunter raced up next to us and jumped out of his boat to shoot the deer my children just fed!
All hunters out there that have ever gone into some ones camp to shoot deer raise your hands?
All hunters who bait and trap raise your hands?
We came unglued! I raced up the hillside barefoot to confront the idiot about to shoot arrows into our area only to find out this was an off duty ranger. Badge number 412. Zack Holmer? Palmer? If you know this guy, or ever seen him in Shasta Lake area threatening you with fines or tickets, notify the authorities right away.
Claiming to be a ranger is NOT a crime according to Shasta area sheriff. (feeding deer tomatoes is) Hunters feel free to use tourist's who feed the deer bait, as hunting a tool. Then just jump off your boat and shoot into the deer infront of young children. If you really love hunting, wouldn't you try to leave a good impression so as to promote hunting. Also these deer are so small I'd be embarassed to bring it home.
If you are a real ranger watching this video and you are from the Shasta Lake California area, Please tell me you DO NOT practice this type of hunting. I understand feeding your family as this guy states he does (look at the size of these guys) but honestly did you see the boat. That's nicer then anything I own. please feel free to comment and leave me your opinions and ideas on this.

Shasta Caverns Guide | Lake Shasta | California Travel Tips
Veronica Hill of California Travel Tips tours Lake Shasta Caverns ( located just north of Redding, CA, off Interstate 5. Open year-round, tours at Shasta Lake Caverns depart every 30 minutes during the summer.
Our underground adventure begins with a narrated Lake Shasta tour , followed by a scenic bus ride 800 feet up to the North Gray Rocks visitor center. After enjoying stunning views of the lake, our guide Dave Mundt opens the cave's doors, and we begin our journey. Although first known to the Wintu Indians, Shasta Caverns was officially discovered on November 3, 1878 by J.A. Richardson, an employee at the Baird Fish Hatchery. The caverns opened to the public in 1964, and became a National Natural Landmark in 2012. Lake Shasta Caverns are estimated to be roughly 250 million years old, formed by volcanic activity in the Klamath Mountain range. Inside, you'll find a spectacular world of flowstones, stalagtites, stalagmites and fluted columns. Geologists theorize that limestone caverns are formed when ground water and decayed organic materials make its way through the limestone fissures. As carbonic acid was formed, the soft limestone dissolved and created holes that were eventually filled with calcium carbonate. After several hundred years, calcite formations such as stalactites (which hang from above) and stalagmites (formed on the ground) were formed. Our first stop is the Discovery Room, where Richardson first made his descent more than 20 feet above the cave floor. His inscription, written in carbon on November 3, 1878, is still visible in the cave. Next, Dave leads us into the Crystal Room, which is filled with unique and fantastical formations. In the Underground Classroom, also known as the Basement Room, we get to touch some of the cave's flowstone deposits. Our last stop is the cavernous Thompson Room or Cathedral Room, which is the largest and most impressive in the caverns.
The 2-hour Shasta Lake tour ends with a scenic walk down to the visitor center, where we catch our boat back to the parking lot. If you plan on staying in the area, the caverns offer dinner cruises on Shasta Lake!

Shasta Lake Dam history
A visual of the building of the Shasta Dam, pictures are from the Tail of the Whale Restaurant at Bridge Bay. Always a fun place with great food. Bridge Bay also has a well stocked store with cool souvenirs of the lake. T-shirts, hats, fishing gear etc. It is worth checking out. Staff are always friendly at the dock, store and restaurant. Also there is a motel there that is very nice and reasonable priced with a pool that is great for the family on a hot afternoon. Hope you enjoy Shasta Lake. We love it.

Natural Waterslide! @ Shasta Lake, CA. (edited, reposted)
We hiked Little Backbone Creek on Shasta Lake, CA in July 2018. We found a natural rock waterslide. (edited, reposted). It was an amazingly beautiful area connected to one of the arms of Shasta Lake not far from Shasta Dam. You need a boat to access it and must then be ready to hike a little through rocks and water. It is well worth the effort!

Keep your eye on the Shasta Dam - to California & Youtube
Most of the Media attention has been on the Oroville Dam situation, which is a serious problem. I'd also like to ask you to keep an eye on the Shasta Dam situation.
1. It's at 95% capacity
2. It is the most North of the Dams
3. it has been getting the most rain lately.
If that dam overflows then it's a serious time to take a look at getting out of the area.
God bless everyone,
we are all in this Together.
Stay Cool.

Officials plan to release water on damaged Oroville Dam spillway ahead of more wet weather
s Northern California braces for more wet weather, state officials plan to resume releasing water down a damaged spillway at Oroville Dam.
The California Department of Water Resources said Thursday that dam operators will reopen the damaged spillway for up to 14 days beginning Friday as state officials finish repair plans.
But as Northern California continues to be hit by more storms and in anticipation of runoff from the snowmelt, DWR Director Bill Croyle said that repairs probably won’t start until May or early June.
“It’s a lot easier to take two to three years to do this, but I don’t have two to three years, I have some months,” Croyle said. “I need to make sure we put a spillway back in place.”
The wet weather is forecast to hit the Oroville area starting Sunday morning and last until late next week, according to the National Weather Service.
A special weather statement by the weather service said that the agency was tracking a “strong thunderstorm over Oroville,” with the possibility of hail and winds up to 30 mph.
In anticipation of this storm and potentially others, the DWR is trying to lower the lake level as much as possible behind the dam before closing the spillway for good to start repairs.
Multiple agencies are involved in reconstruction plans, which also need to be approved by federal regulators. As experts continue to analyze the damaged site, the new information changes reconstruction plans.
“Each week we address a next set of technical issues to review,” Croyle said.
In February, the state narrowly avoided what would have been a catastrophic disaster when engineers discovered a huge crater on the reservoir’s main spillway, leading authorities to switch to an emergency spillway to reduce the water level. Then that spillway nearly failed, prompting concerns that a concrete wall would collapse, sending a wall of water out of the lake.
More than 100,000 people were evacuated from the potential flood path. Engineers were eventually able to reduce lake levels by increasing the amount of water flowing down the already damaged main spillway.
