Antique Danish quarter striking clock
Antique Danish quarter striking clock, with central date hand, made by Frederik Sonne (1775-1849), Bornholm, Denmark.
This is an example of more elaborate work from the island of Bornholm, famous for clocks. A big farm/cottage industry blossomed on the island, producing grandfather clocks which were exported, not only to Denmark, but other countries as well. This has led to grandfather clocks being called Bornholmere (Bornholmians) in colloquial danish.

Birmingham and the Midlands. Film 16699
Birmingham. A film promoting the English Midlands and its centre Birmingham as a progressive and highly productive industrial and agricultural area in the early 1960's. Includes large car manufacturing and small engineering plants, traditional crafts like jewellery and glass making, cereal, beef, dairy and fruit and vegetable production, housing and city redevelopment.
The Modern and Affluent Midlands - A simple graphic wheel map with Birmingham the centre with outward spokes pointing to England's main ports and commercial centres. Shot of legs of people walking in flag-stoned retail street in a Midland city, in late afternoon. Lower half of two women wearing high heels and flat shoes walking on pavement. Busy shopping scene in affluent area with beautiful old shops in background. A man in a suit, older women and young woman wearing different fashions, shop window displaying men's clothes. Lady wearing hat and suit looking in men's clothing store window, which displays jumpers, hats and coats at sale prices in pounds shillings and pence, and young woman in lightweight coat passes by.
A store window displays summer blouses on wire torso displays, with pleated skirts and typical conservative early 1960's women's fashions. Two men's suit coats are displayed in timber backed store window and there is a reflection of moving bus in the window glass. A large piece of red meat with fat has a Prime English label and sausages hang close by. Fruit and vegetables are displayed in a shop with £ s and d prices. Young boys in shorts and long socks run down a pleasant street of terrace houses with a green verge opposite and the city in the background. There is a woman standing on an upper storey, slightly dilapidated council flat balcony.
Various items of Angel Face make up are displayed on a glass-topped shop counter or window. Another store window displays makeup of the Pretty Quick Puff range, including face powders, green eye pencil and mascara. A jewellers ring display board is full of gold and diamond rings with prices. A display of matching gold bracelet, earrings and necklace in a leaf motif is beside a smaller display of earrings. Magazines are displayed on a peg board in another shop window
