High Street starts at the Commercial Street, Fitzalan Square and Haymarket junction and runs for approximately 400 metres west to conclude near the Sheffield Cathedral where it forms a Y-junction with Fargate and Church Street.
High Street has the traditional wide variety of shops, financial institutions and eating places which are associated with any British town centre.
High Street was the site of the original Sheffield Town Hall, which was situated by the church gates; it was a modest building which was replaced by a more impressive structure in 1808 on Waingate.
For many years SheffieldHigh Street remained no wider than it had been in the Middle Ages; it was too narrow for horse trams to pass through. It had the timber framed bailiff's house (built in 1574) on its south side right up to the end of the 19th century.
Sheffield Supertram runs up and down one side of Sheffield High Street and on the other side there is a road for buses and cars.
We continue our Sheffield walking tour by crossing over High Street and going down into Castle Square and then down Angel Street to King Street.
On King Street there are market stalls and regular markets held here although it's not as busy as other areas and Sheffield streets.
This tour of Sheffield City Centre continues as we face Fitzalan Square and turn left into Commercial Street and stop at the Fitzalan Square Tram Stop.

A walk around Sheffield City Hall
A walk around Sheffield City Hall
Sheffield City Hall is a historic concert hall in the heart of the city, bringing unforgettable live music, comedy and entertainment events to Sheffield since 1932.
Sheffield City Hall is a Grade II listed building in Sheffield, England which dominates Barker's Pool, one of Sheffield's central squares. It was built and is owned by Sheffield City Council but is now managed by the Sheffield City Trust, under a 99-year lease and is operated by Sheffield International Venues as a venue for concerts and other events in its various rooms.
The building was designed in 1920 by E. Vincent Harris but construction was delayed 8 years because of the economic climate in the early 1920s.
Eventually construction started with the laying of the foundation stone on 27 June 1929 and the City Hall was officially opened on 22 September 1932.
It was originally proposed in 1916 as a Memorial Hall to commemorate the dead of the Great War but by the time of completion the name had changed to Sheffield City Hall, after some years of controversy.
During the Second World War a bomb exploded in Barker's Pool, damaging the pillars of the building. The scars of the explosion can still be seen to this day.
In 2005, Sheffield City Hall and its surroundings were refurbished and re-developed at a cost of £12.5 million.
We take a walk around Sheffield City Hall and Barkers Pool to have a look at the different entrances (including the famous Stage Door where bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix right up to One Direction have used to get in and out of the City Hall)

A short walk up The Moor in Sheffield to the steps of Sheffield Town Hall in Sheffield City Centre, Yorkshire, England.
Sheffield city centre is undergoing much development currently with a new retail and shopping quarter currently being built at the time of filming this walk (2018)
We start this short Sheffield City Centre walk at Moorfoot in front of the Manpower building there and head up and onto The Moor.
On the right of us is The Moor Markets, a new indoor market building designed to replace Sheaf Market and Castle Market at the other side of the city centre that was demolished for redevelopment there.
Outside the indoor market building are a number of outdoor market stalls of local Sheffield independent businesses all doing their thing.
Further up we see the new cinema and shopping complex that houses THE LIGHT CINEMA as well as retails shops underneath and bars and restaurants up on the first floor up the elevator.
As we reach the top end of the Moor on this walk through Sheffield City Centre we see Debenhams on the left which has been there many years, and on the right the latest stage of redevelopment in Sheffield due to happen.
Crossing over onto Pinstone Street we head up the row of shops and businesses until we reach The Peace Gardens and our final end point of the steps of Sheffield Town Hall.

Sheffield is a city in the English county of South Yorkshire. In the city centre, the Millennium Gallery shows metalwork and art from Sheffield and around the world. It adjoins the Winter Garden, a large temperate glasshouse filled with plants. Kelham Island Museum covers the city’s industrial heritage. The nearby countryside is part of Peak District National Park, characterised by moorland and rocky ridges.
Sheffield is a city and metropolitan borough in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Sheffield name derives from the River Sheaf, which runs through the city. With some of its southern suburbs annexed from Derbyshire, the city of Sheffield has grown from its largely industrial roots to encompass a wider economic base.
In the 19th century, Sheffield gained an international reputation for steel production. Known as the Steel City, many innovations were developed locally, including crucible and stainless steel, fuelling an almost tenfold increase in the population in the Industrial Revolution. Sheffield received its municipal charter in 1843, becoming the City of Sheffield in 1893.
The city has a long sporting heritage, and is home to the world's oldest football club, Sheffield F.C. Games between the two professional clubs, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, are known as the Steel City derby. The city is also home to the World Snooker Championship.
