Walking through Shimba Hills forest to the serene Sheldrick Falls
Inside the vast forest at the Shimba Hills National Park in Kwale lies the Sheldrick Falls.
The Rapids found in the largest coastal forest in East Africa after Arabuko-Sokoke is located 33km from Mombasa island.
The waterfalls derive their name from Major David Leslie William Sheldrick, a Kenyan farmer and a famous park warden who was born in Egypt. He ‘discovered’ the hidden waterfalls while flying over the Shimba Hills National Reserve.
The waterfall is 2.5km from the second point and you must be accompanied by a KWS ranger down the hills.
A fascinating walk, preferably bare-footed, through narrow paths shrouded by trees, makes for a wonderful experience down the waterfall.

SHIMBA HILLS NAT RESERVE SAFARI-(SABLE ANTELOPES & SHELDRICK WATERFALLS)+ FUN AT DIANI BEACH
In this episode, Eddie Mors African Tours and Safaris takes you on a tour to Shimba Hills National Reserve., we give you a snippet of what to expect when you visit this amazing destination found at the South Coast of Kenya near Kwale Town.
The Shimba Hills National Reserve is a small National Reserve in the Coast Province of Kenya, 33 km from Mombasa and 15 km from Diani. The reserve is an area of coastal rain-forest, woodland, and grassland. It is an important area for plant biodiversity – over 50% of the 159 rare plants in Kenya are found in the Shimba Hills, including some endangered species of cycad and orchids. It is also a nationally important site for birds and butterflies. There are estimated to be approximately 700 elephants in the reserve. Shimba Hills contains Kenya's only population of Sable Antelope. There are about 100 in the park.

Shimba Hills, Kwale County, Kenya
Shimba Hills are a nice national park in Kenya. Around 1 hour ride from Diani Beach, Ukunda, Kwale County you will be able to discover the beauty of Kenyas countryside.
But is the entrance fee for the national park worth it?
We couldn't believe our eyes, after wild elephants crossed our road, after we left the national park of Shimba Hills.

Kongo mosque, South coast, Kenya. https://www.facebook.com/Dr.KiranKhoslaKenya
The Kongo mosque, South Coast, Kenya.
Source of information... Juma Suleiman the caretaker..
900 years ago, Omani traders who were unusually tall (around 11 to 12 feet tall) built the Kongo mosque which occupies part of the 18 acre land allocated to the mosque. (I personally find the height exaggerated.)
The unique mosque overlooks the Indian ocean and lies few hundred meters from the River Kongo which flows into the ocean and divides the Tiwi Beach from Diani Beach. The river I understand is a bird viewer's paradise, and unfortunately has not been advertised well enough as a tourist spot.
The mosque was discovered 300 years ago by Sheikh Kombo vide a vision which led him to an area encapsulated by baobab trees which today are around 500 years old. He then discovered the mosque.
The mosque is built from coral stones and the cement was basically burnt coral pounded into powder.
They say the builders needed mere stools not ladders to build the mosque walls
There are Graves of the 1st imam who had a normal height and others whose grave lengths are rather very long.
Renovations have been done, walls plastered, extentions made to accommodate the growing Muslim population.
One part of the inner dome has not been plastered so as to show tourists how the mosque was made.
It is believed that there is a huge stone within the ocean, a kilometer away from the mosque. It is sacred and stopped revolving when people tampered with it. It is accessible during the low tides and there is a huge footprint which adjusts its size according to the size of the foot being placed on top of the footprint.
I never saw the stone, as the tides were high.
The locals depend on tourists for their livelihood... They built temporary sheds, benches which they rent out to the visitors on the beach, they keep the beach very clean, sell fish and take people boating on the River Kongo.
