Studland is a village and civil parish on the Isle of Purbeck in the English county of Dorset. Studland is famous for its beaches and nature reserve. Studland lies within the Purbeck administrative district, and is located about 2 miles (3.2 km) north of the town of Swanage, over a steep chalk ridge, and 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the South East Dorset conurbation at Sandbanks, but separated from it by Poole Harbour.
Studland is sited in the lee of Ballard Down, close to the east-facing Studland Bay, a 2.5 miles (4.0 km) long curved sweep of sandy beaches backed by dunes and heathland. The beaches are named South Beach, Middle Beach and Knoll Beach, with another at Shell Bay to the north.
Studland Bay is protected from the prevailing southwesterly winds and storms by Ballard Down and Handfast Point, the chalk headland that separates Studland from Swanage Bay to the south. Behind the sand dunes there is a large area of heathland, named Studland Heath to the north of the village and Godlingston Heath to the west. This area is also owned and managed by the National Trust. Within Studland Heath is an acidic freshwater lake called Little Sea, which was cut off from the sea by the development of the dunes, and is a haven for birds and other wildlife. Studland and Godlingston Heath NNR has been a national nature reserve since 1946, and the site is on English Nature's list of Spotlight Reserves, the 31 most important reserves in England.

Lulworth Cove and Stair Hole Part of the Jurassic Coast of England
Lulworth Cove is a cove near the village of West Lulworth, on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in Dorset, southern England. The cove is one of the world's finest examples of such a landform, and is a tourist location with approximately 500,000 visitors a year, of whom about 30% visit in July and August.
Stair Hole, less than half a mile away, is an infant cove which suggests what Lulworth Cove would have looked like a few hundred thousand years ago. The sea has made a gap in the Portland and Purbeck limestone here, as well as a small arch. The sea has made its way through to the Wealdon clays and begun eroding them. The clay shows obvious signs of slumping, and is eroding very rapidly. Stair Hole shows one of the best examples of limestone folding (the Lulworth crumple) in the world, caused by movements in the Earth's crust (tectonics) millions of years ago.

A sunset trip on the Sandbanks Chain Ferry on the summer solstice
Enjoy the Sandbanks Chain Ferry crossing Poole Harbour in Dorset from Bournemouth and Sandbanks in the west to Studland and Swanage in the east.
It’s the summer solstice, the sun is setting, so what could be better than a little trip on the Sandbanks ferry to enjoy the views. The trip from the Haven Hotel on the Sandbanks side to Shell Bay on the Studland side only takes a few minutes. The Bramble Bush Bay, as the current ferry is named, became the fourth Sandbanks ferry in 1994 on this ferry crossing that came into being, following an Act of Parliament, in 1923 and which continues today to be run by the Bournemouth-Swanage Motor Road and Ferry Company. It provides a service 365 days per year accommodating 48 cars and operating every 20 minutes. Without the crossing, a 25-mile trip by road is required between Poole and Swanage. On the Studland side – technically the Isle of Purbeck – the road continues through to Swanage, or of course many visitors come for Studland Beach which stretches 4 miles to the west, including Knoll Beach which is the site of the UK’s most popular nudist beach. The Haven Hotel, at the far western point of Sandbanks Beach is famous for being the site of Marconi’s wireless experiments between 1898 and 1926. At the time, the Sandbanks peninsula was largely uninhabited, containing two hotels, a coastguard and just a handful of private homes. Today, the Sandbanks peninsula has the fourth largest land value by area in the world; Panorama Road, visible in this video, is known as Millionaires Row on account of its large and super-expensive houses. Bournemouth Beach, to the east of Sandbanks Beach, is regularly voted one the best, if not the best beach in the country and in Europe. During the filming of the video, we had to wait a while on the Studland side as the Barfleur Ferry sailing from Poole to Cherbourg had to come through on its way through the narrow opening into the English Channel. The two ferries have had an altercation or two in the past!
