Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon, Loudoun
Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon, was held in Loudoun, Virginia: DC's Wine Country on June 4, 2011. The 13.1 mile race begins in the vineyards of Breaux Vineyards, the follow country roads and scenic byways around the town of Hillsboro, before ending at Doukenie Winery. 5th in a series of the bedrace. The Army bed was in memory of S.Sgt, Stephen Seale who died Aug 6th in Iraq. My husbands bed won 3rd place!
Rain shadow
A rain shadow is a dry area on the lee side of a mountainous area. The mountains block the passage of rain-producing weather systems and cast a shadow of dryness behind them.
As shown by the diagram, the incoming warm and moist air is drawn by the prevailing winds towards the top of the mountains, where it condenses and precipitates before it crosses the top. The air, without much moisture left, advances behind the mountains creating a drier side called the rain shadow.
