Sherbrooke Forest, Dandenong, Australia, January 12, 2019
Sherbrooke Forest lies at an altitude of 220-500 m within the Dandenong Ranges, 40 km east of Melbourne, in Victoria, Australia, close to the suburb of Belgrave. The vegetation is classified as wet sclerophyll forest with the dominant tree species the mountain ash, Eucalyptus regnans, the tallest flowering plant in the world. From the mid-19th century until 1930 it was logged. In 1958 it was gazetted as a park, and in 1987 it was merged with Doongalla Reserve and Ferntree Gully National Park to form the 32.15 km2 Dandenong Ranges National Park.
Sherbrooke Forest is famous for its population of superb lyrebirds and was an early, and still important, site for the study and conservation of this species. One of the early lyrebird researchers and sound recordists of the 1930s was Raymond Littlejohns. Another researcher who analysed lyrebird song was Konstantin Halafoff.

Fiddling birds is a great fun!
Sherbrooke Cockatto Park, Melbourne, Australia, Jan 12, 2019
Situated in the Sherbrooke Forest, Grants Picnic Ground is one of the top attractions of the Dandenong Ranges, famous for its bird feeding. If you love to walk and appreciate nature, there are walking tracks that start from the picnic ground which take you through the native plants and wildlife.
To access the bird feeding area, buy a token from Grants on Sherbrooke and they will give you seed to feed the wild native birds. This is a unique and one-off feeding area as there is nowhere else in the Dandenong Ranges that hand feeding native birds is allowed.
Visitors get to experience the spectacular Cockatoos, Rosellas and Parrots as they fly in to say 'Hello'.
Dandenong Ranges National Park - Melbourne's Dandenong Ranges
The Dandenong Ranges National Park is a spectacular natural environment on Melbourne's doorstep. The tall forests of this Park is well known for its spectacular Mountain Ash trees and lush fern gullies, and is ideal for relaxing picnics and tranquil forest walks.
The cool mountain elevation affords spectacular panoramic views. There is abundant native birdlife, including crimson rosellas, kookaburras and the superb lyrebird.
Explore the forest on a range of walks, or enjoy a picnic at the Fern Tree Gully Picnic Ground, One Tree Hill or in Sherbrooke Forest.
Nearby coffee shops, restaurants, craft and antique shops, as well as gardens and the historic Puffing Billy train make for a pleasant day out. The park can be reached by public transport from Melbourne.

Journey To The Mysterious Sherbrooke Forest
This is my journey through the mysterious Sherbrooke Forest. Located within the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne. I started along the Pound Creek track where i was welcomed by the lush green rainforest and chatter of the native birds high up in the trees. I continued along the HillClimb track where like the name suggests was all up hill and became more challenging, As i brushed past the beautiful ferns that hung over the track i was fortunate to see some of the native wildlife. My body was starting to feel it as it felt like the path was getting steeper and steeper but then i reached the top and had an amazing view of Sherbrooke Falls.

Sherbrooke Forest Victoria, Australia
This is a video that I recorded with the PMW-F3, before upgrading to the PMW-F5. This is significant because I am using the SCL-Z18X140 zoom lens which DOESN'T auto focus on the F5. Annoying!

The Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union (RAOU), now part of BirdLife Australia, was Australia's largest non-government, non-profit, bird conservation organisation. It was founded in 1901 to promote the study and conservation of the native bird species of Australia and adjacent regions, making it Australia's oldest national birding association. In 1996, the organisation adopted the trading name of Birds Australia for most public purposes, while retaining its original name for legal purposes and as the publisher of its journal, the Emu. In 2012, the RAOU merged with Bird Observation & Conservation Australia to form BirdLife Australia.
