Shibu Onsen Kanaguya (Hot Spring), Nagano

Shibu Onsen, a hot spring town in the northern part of Nagano Prefecture. There is an inn with a retro atmosphere that still uses an old-fashioned building called “Historical Inn Kanaguya”, which is also designated as a registered tangible cultural property.
Shibu Onsen Historical Inn Kajiya is a long-established hot spring inn located in Yamanouchi-machi, Shimotakai-gun, Nagano. Originally a blacksmith of Matsushiro Domain, it became an inn in 1758 because a hot spring springed up at this place accidentally during a disaster recovery. Because his predecessor was a blacksmith, the name of the inn was named “Kanaguya” (Metals Handler) by the head of Matsushiro Domain at the time.

The second day of Suwa in Nagano.
I took onsen bath before breakfast, and, of course enjoyed a big breakfast Shinyu offered.
I took a tour which Shinyu offered, Suwa Taisha Meguri, the tour of Suwa grand shrine. As Suwa grand shrine is one of the oldest and famous shrines, I’ve learned many things.
And there is a famous festival, which is Onbashira festival. It’s known as one of the most dangerous festivals in the world!!!
I’ll share about many info in this video!

In Yamanouchi we stayed in the Ryokan Biyu No Yado. While there we bumped into the Front Desk Manager for the sister hotel, Shiga Palace Hotel, Zen.
We'd only planned to visit the Snow Monkeys in Shibu Onsen but as there was some late-season snow, Zen suggested we visit Mt Yokote. It was a great suggestion and a super excuse to fly my Mavic Pro.
We caught a ski-lift up, had lots of crumpets at the Crumpet Cafe(!) and caught a snowmobile down. The unexpected surprise of our trip...

Wild Snow Monkeys In Alley Way Between Houses - Yamanouchi, Hirao, Nagano, Japan
We were walking to dinner from the Shibu Hotel towards Yudanaka Station when we spotted these wild snow monkeys hanging out in an alleyway looking for food along with a small baby monkey.
They are Japanese Macaque monkeys.
