Beijing - 2013 (HD)
China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.3 billion. Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometres, the East Asian state is the world's second-largest country by land area, and the third- or fourth-largest in total area, depending on the definition of total area.
The People's Republic of China is a single-party state governed by the Communist Party of China. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces, five autonomous regions, four directly controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing), and two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau). Its capital city is Beijing

Guangdong Eases Media Control
Recently, hundreds of Guangzhou migrant workers held parade
against unpaid wages. Surprisingly, the police escorted them.
Not long ago, several thousand villagers in Guandong Lufeng』
parade were not stopped by the authorities either.
Furthermore, the CCP』 (Chinese Communist Party) Secretary
of Guangdong, Wang Yang, unbarred media restrictions order.
Thus for the first time Southern Metropolitan Daily
published an article about rehabilitation of Zhao Ziyang.
Analysts think with these brave decisions Wang Yang aims
at the highest CCP position during 18th People』s Congress.
On November18, a few hundred Guangzhou migrant workers
held up banners, Give me my hard-earned money,
I need to eat and shouted slogans during the parade.
Unexpectedly, the police』 vehicles only escorted the parade.
People discussed that they haven』t seen such a strange sight,
for many years demonstrations have always been suppressed.
On November 21, a few thousand villagers held a parade
against village』s election committee manipulations and illegal land acquisition in Lufeng city, Guangdong.
Protesters held banners, Anti-dictatorship,
Fighting corruption, Give me my human rights and so on.
The parade continued for 2 hours and stopped at the city hall,
however the authorities did not try to stop it.
Wu Fan, Editor-In-Chief of China Affairs,
thinks CCP faces widespread social crises.
To calm down people』 anger without suppression is testing
Wang Yang』 new methods for the so called 『maintaining stability.』
Wu Fan: Guangdong is different from Zhejiang,
Zhejiang always uses suppression.
In Guangdong for example the police let you go through
and escorts the parade, so you don』t do anything damaging.
What is good about this? Firstly, they control the protest and
make sure it doesn』t turn into riot, but it』s just a demonstration.
Secondly, having a discussion next time
can give people a sense of wisdom.
Wu Fan points out that the CCP searches for a way
to ease the social crises.
Bo Xilai』s red culture and mafia suppression
campaign in Chongqing has come to an end.
Can Wang Yang』s new methods of the so-called 『maintaining
stability』 carry on and bring him the desired promotion?
This would depend on the authorities』 level of tolerance.
Wu Fan: To allow police cars』 escort is to allow demonstration.
Now there were no problems and complications in the parade.
Next time you can hold banners like Down the dictatorship,
Down the CCP, to test the ground.
Both sides are testing the ground,
protesters and Wang Yang alike.
After August』s Bei Dai He meeting, Hu Jintao visited
Guangdong three times in support of Wang Yang.
Foreign media believes there is no doubt that Wang Yang
will be in the CCP』s Standing Committee.
Shenzhen writer Zhu Jianguo said, Guangdong authorities
adjusted the methods of the so-called 『maintaining stability.』
Their purpose is to ensure Wang Yang can climb up
in the 18th CCP』s People』s Congress next year.
Zhu Jianguo: Surrendering to people to reduce the conflict,
if this method makes some progress, Wang will benefit.
Because the CCP』s traditional way is whenever a new fight
for rights happens, they will take some new action.
The latest example is what happened in Guangdong this time,
to give a way to the protesters.
Hong Kong』s Trend magazine revealed that Wang Yang
is a recommended second candidate by Hu Jintao』s side.
The chief editor of Trend, Zhang Weiguo said on October17,
that Wang Yang』s competing manner for the first Chair is even greater with the 18th People』s Congress』 approaching.
On October 18, Guangdong media revealed that Wang Yang
arranged internally to carry out public opinion coverage, temporarily lifting the press control ban.
On November 15, Southern Metropolis Daily in Guangdong
published an article to commemorate former Guangdong CCP Secretary, Ren Zhongyi.
It posted Ren』s last testament: What Guangdong has today,
is Hu Yaobang』s and Zhao Ziyang』s contribution.
Zhu Jianguo thinks the purpose of this article is to call on
the CCP』 reformists to rehabilitate Zhao Ziyang, and push the future CCP leader toward reform.
On November 17 and 18, Maoists in Taiyuan and
Shijiazhuang burned the Southern Media Group newspapers.
This was in response to Kong Qingdong』s stirring up
Wang Yang to restructure the Southern Media Group.
Maoist cursed Southern Media Group as a traitor newspaper,
controlled by the US, calling for rooting out the traitors, etc.
Wu Fan: So each is singing a different tune,
as to let people choose, to let the CCP choose.
This is to see which is the better way, they came across
this important juncture point, this is not a surprise.
CCP has been splitting from top to bottom. Which side will be

STORYLINE:
A display of waxworks of the most famous figures in Chinese history opened in Beijing on Tuesday.
The collection of 35 lifelike statues was unveiled to the public at the Chinese Revolutionary Museum.
Among the great Chinese statesmen on display is Dr. Sun Yat-sen the founder of the Chinese Nationalist Party.
Also on show are likenesses of Chairman Mao Zedong, the founding father of the People's Republic of China and Deng Xiaoping, the initiator of China's reform and opening policy, who died in 1997.
It's not only Chinese people who've been immortalised in the display.
Canadian doctor Norman Bethune came to China to help fighting against the invading Japanese and died in here in 1939.
Bethune is considered a hero in China and is famous across the People's Republic.
Children are taught about him in school history lessons.
This little girl's mother believes that the display can help youngsters get more insight into Chinese history and to deepen what they have learned from textbooks.
And it's not only personalities from China's revolutionary past who have been crafted for the exhibition.
For most of the visitors, it'll be the first time they've seen a likeness of the philosopher Confucius
Visitors say they've been impressed by the detailed sculptures.
And there is more in store for fans of the models they've seen.
Two more display halls are being built.
Eventually the China State Waxwork Museum will be the country's largest.
The government wants the museum finished in time for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
It hopes it will attract visitors from across the world eager to immerse themselves in the history and culture of the world's most populous nation.

Dave's 2007 China Trip Bejing (Part 3 - Great Hall)
Touring The Great Hall of the People in Tiananmen Square. It is used as Chinese parliament building and has 2,979 representatives. Thankfully it was not in session so we were able to tour the entire building. The artwork inside is incredible and we went to some of the same rooms Richard Nixon did when he established diplomatic relations here in 1972.

The World's Largest Abandoned City - Ordos
Ordos The World’s Largest Abandoned City
The development of the city of Ordos is a unique tale. Ordos is a city designed from scratch and built within 10 years. This city came to fruition after private mining companies were given the rights to dig into deposits in the late 90’s and 2000’s. This generated a lot of tax revenue making Ordos the 2nd highest income per capita city in China. Ordos is a city located in Inner Mongolia that has been constantly been burdened with water shortage issues. Instead of trying to revamp the current infrastructure the Chinese government decided to rebuild the city from scratch which is called “New Ordos” just 16 miles or 25 km kilometers away from the existing city now called “Old Ordos”. The people of Old Ordos refer to New Ordos as the Kangbashi district of Ordos, these new and old labels are basically not supported by anyone locally. Two villages built around the Wulan Mulan River were demolished and construction started in 2005. 161 billion dollars in infrastructure was invested to build the Kangbashi District over the first 5 years. Regardless if anyone lives in this new city, this is a major plus to the government of China as it increases China’s GDP. The government gave kickbacks to developers who helped boost GDP so building anything anywhere is promoted.
The old city of Ordos or Dongsheng is home to over ½ a million people, it was expected that many of them would move to the new city as it became completed. As explained by many locals, a working couple only makes $800 a month combined of which ⅓ is taken for rent. The new apartments in New Ordos sell for 70 - 100 thousand dollars making it virtually impossible for locals to live there. Sales were slow at first but eventually investors snapped up many of the units in the new city. This has left New Ordos with a ton of infrastructure and no residents. The city was originally designed to hold 1 million people but was scaled down during construction to 500,000 then to 300,000 after coal prices crashed.
The city features a 5 story shopping mall, impressive monuments and statues, art and city museum, the Ordos Dongsheng Stadium that seats 35,000 people, opera house, a brand new airport and a modern designed mosque. The city streets are lined with skyscraper after skyscraper that are almost completely empty. A toy store is one of the only stores in the massive 5 story mall, the man who runs the store says he sells something every few days and if the government doesn’t step in soon to fix it, he may have to move back to Dongsheng. It is estimated only 2 % of the buildings were ever filled the rest remain abandoned. Outside the mall an elaborate water show is put on every night with only a few people found to be watching it. A water show this size in a normal city would draw thousands of viewers daily. The city has everything it needs to be a great thriving new city like extra wide roads with bike lanes like what is found in Taipei, modern amenities and infrastructure but simply no people. The initial wave of 30,000 people that moved to New Ordos all lived in a 4 to 5 block radius just north of central park. A few years later that grew to 60,000 and now 12 years after the start of construction there are around 150,000 residents in a city that was originally designed for 1 million. The city has been doing many things to attract people to live there like moving the best schools from Dongsheng to Kangbashi. While some areas of Kangbashi aren’t a ghost town at all today, many still are. One abandoned project is the Ordos 100 Project, which is a project that was to have 100 different extreme luxury villas designed. Instead of the government doing it themselves they invited 100 different architects from around the world to each design a luxury villas to be placed on the map. Land sections were given out with the utmost creative freedom except the design was not to look like traditional Mongolian designs such as Yurts. Each architect designed their villa and construction started. Within the Ordos 100 Project site multiple half finished villas can be found. While many lay half finished some have progress going forward.
