Shillingstone Railway Project 06/03/2019
Nestled in the hills of North Dorset, the remnants of Shillingstone railway station stand as a relic of the former Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (S&DJR).
However, in the hands of the North Dorset Railway Trust, the Shillingstone Railway Project is beginning to gather pace. Currently standing as a preserved railway in its infancy, the group behind Shillingstone hold the long-term aim of rebuilding the track North, completing the 3 mile stretch to Sturminster Newton - the track-bed of which remains largely undisturbed.
The short term aim for the station itself, is to complete a functioning run-around loop within station limits, allowing the future prospect of Brake-Van rides to become a real possibility.

Shillingstone Railway Project 13/11/2019
Tucked away in north Dorset, nestled in the Stour Valley, the Shillingstone Railway Project continues to gather pace, rejuvenating the memory of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (S&DJR).
Under the care of the North Dorset Railway Trust, the Shillingstone Railway Project is very much a preserved railway in its infancy, with the Trust holding the long-term goal of rebuilding the line north to Sturminster Newton - a length of three miles. In the short term, progress is being made on completing the run-around loop within Shillingstone's station limits, with the implementation of a pair of points at the north end of the platforms. Thus allowing increased manoeuvrability around the station, as well as opening up the future prospect of Brake-Van rides within the station limits.

Could the Shillingstone station be echoing to the sounds and whistles of steam locomotives again,It will if these guys at the Shillingstone Railway Project have anything to do with it.
The track is being laid around the station area,I was also told that they planned to lay more out on the old track bed so that they can give brake van rides.
All this work needs money and volunteers so if you live in the area and you would like to get involved pop down to see them, you will be made very welcome.
Great cafe and book shop as well. With the cycle path passing by this gets some much needed money from this trade.
We wish the Railway Project all the very best for the future,we look forward to popping back to see how things are going.Looking forward to that ride guys!

Shillingstone Railway Heritage Project, England, UK
The Shillingstone Railway Project, is a heritage railway project, based at Shillingstone railway station on the former Somerset, and Dorset Joint Railway.
It is supported by the North Dorset Railway Trust. The North Dorset trailway runs alongside the formation and up over the 395-foot down platform.
The station building currently houses a waiting or refreshment room, shop and offices. The former parcel shed contains a small museum. The bike shed has been rebuilt from its foundation ring. The south end of the up platform has been rebuilt and the picnic area above landscaped.
After the closure of Shillingstone railway station in 1966, Dorset County Council purchased the trackbed for a proposed Shillingstone by-pass. Various furniture manufacturing companies were sited in the station yard, over the years, occupying industrial buildings constructed in the late 1970s, some of them making partial use of the station building. By December 2002, the by-pass plan had been shelved and the station was unoccupied. Dorset County Council decided to dispose of the redundant station, and, after protracted negotiations, the North Dorset Railway Trust took over the lease in July 2005, with a view to re-opening the station as a heritage railway attraction. Restoration work commenced in 2003 and has continued steadily since then.

Narrow Gauge Railways of Great Britain The Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway August 2018
You have everything at this railway, planes and helicopters landing and taking off, steam train, what more do yo need!
We enjoyed our visit to this railway,we like Narrow gauge railways anyway.
Just one problem we noticed! THE RIDE PRICE IS TO CHEAP!!!
£1 each for a trip this is too cheap! £2.50 and a child £1 would be about right, that would be well worth the money.
Great bunch of guys running the railway.
Last ball bye: Christchurch overcome Shillingstone 07 July '18
