The MOST BEAUTIFUL Island in Japan [Yakushima Island]|Day 97 - Kagoshima
Yakushima (屋久島) is a subtropical island off the southern coast of Kyushu and part of Kagoshima Prefecture. It is covered by an extensive cedar forest that contains some of Japan's oldest living trees. Trees more than 1000 years old are affectionately called yakusugi (a combination of Yakushima and sugi, the Japanese word for cedar), the most ancient of which may be over 7000 years old.
The island's cedar forests were logged extensively in the past, particularly during the Edo Period for the production of cedar shingles. Today the forests have well recovered from past logging and are a national park, while some areas were declared a Natural World Heritage Site in 1993. Most tourists come to the island to hike through the forests and see the ancient cedar trees.
As a subtropical island with nearly 2000 meter high mountains, Yakushima attracts a lot of rainfall around the year, with a local saying claiming that it rains 35 days a month. While that may be an exaggeration, there is some rain almost on a daily basis, especially in the mountainous interior, although the rain can also be light and limited to short periods of time. In higher elevations the precipitation falls as snow during the winter months.

New island south of Japan (along with Nishino Shima) / Emerge Nueva Isla en Japón [IGEO.TV]
Contribute toi the Proyect:
Enter to the emergencies store:
Strong underwater volcanic activity in the Pacific Ocean has formed a new small island about a thousand kilometers south of Tokyo.
The new island is approximately 200 meters wide and is located southeast of Nishinoshima uninhabited volcanic island , which belongs to the small archipelago of Ogasawara ( Tokyo prefecture ) , far from the main island of Japan .
Spectacular images collected by the Japanese broadcaster NHK and recorded by the Japanese Coast Guard show as a column of white smoke about 600 meters binds with black ash cloud caused by violent explosions generated inside the volcano.
The Japan Meteorological Agency , meanwhile , has urged local vessels navigating in the area to remain vigilant to avoid being hit by rocks ejected by the volcano or intermittent explosions , estimated to continue over the coming days .
It is the first eruption that occurs with Nishinoshima in nearly 40 years, after which the island size increase between 1973 and 1974 also due to intense volcanic activity.

Shima Uta - The Island Song - by Soka Uni Students
Deigo, the flowers that we held
Distant winds sigh beneath the clouds
Deigo, the flowers that we lost
Distant winds call up on a storm
I embrace my sorrow deep within
Like the waves that cross the ocean shore
(Uuji no mori de anata to deai)
(Uuji no shita de chiyo ni sayonara)
Shima-Uta my island ride the wind
Together fly like birds across the ocean waves
Shima-Uta my island ride the wind
Delivering my tears across the ocean waves
(Deigo no hana mo chiri)
(Sasayaka na shiawase wa)
うたかたの波の花 (utakata no nami no hana)
Uuji where we first sang in a forest green and gold
Now I stand beneath the tree where I cried my last farewell
(Shima uta yo kaze ni nori)
鳥とともに 海の渡れ (tori to tomo ni umi wo watare)
(Shima uta yo kaze ni nori)
(Umi yo uchuu yo kami yo inochi yo)
Shima-Uta my island ride the wind
Together fly like birds across the ocean waves
Shima-Uta my island ride the wind
Together fly like birds across the ocean waves

Tokyo's Secret Island Paradise | AOGASHIMA ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Jurassic Park may be the first thing that comes to mind when you see Aogashima Island from the air - but yes, THIS IS TOKYO!
It's famous for having a volcano inside a volcano surrounded by dense jungle. It's also considered the smallest town in Japan and the hardest place in Japan to get to. There is no direct transportation to Aogashima. These facts are what make Aogashima the best kept secret in Tokyo!
★ The Ogasawara video is out!
Travel 1000km further for Tokyo's distant island paradise!
The island is unspoiled.
The pristine jungles and beautiful ocean views are like scenes from the movies.
HOW TO GET TO AOGASHIMA
Air
▶︎ Haneda Airport (Tokyo) to Hachijojima / 50 minutes
▶︎ Helicopter to Aogashima - 20 minutes / 11,530 Yen
Note: You have to take the first flight to catch the helicopter or spend the night. Only 1 helicopter flight per day.
Sea (Ferry)
▶︎ Takeshiba Pier (Tokyo) to Hachijojima 11-12 hours / Tokai Kisen Line /
▶︎ Hachijojima to Aogashima / 3 hours / Izu Shoto Kaihatsu Line
Note: The ferry to Aogashima is often canceled so don't rely on this if you need to be back to Tokyo for a flight etc. It can be delayed for as long as 1 week depending on weather!
WHY IS THIS THE HARDEST PLACE TO GET TO?
The town is located 200 meters up off the sea. There is no airport and this island is only accessible by helicopter and ferry. The port is one of the most challenging to dock at in the world so when the sea is rough or the wind is too strong, ferries are often canceled. Visitors may be stranded here for a week or more if the weather turns bad.
MUST SEE PLACES on AOGASHIMA
★ Ao-Chu Shochu distillery
★ Aogashima heliport
★ The volcanic island steamer (for lunch)
★ The island sauna
★ Oyamatenbo Park (Observation Area) for the view over the crater and the sky at night

FOOD TO TRY
★ Torinabe (Chicken Soup Pot)
★ Ashitaba (an island leaf / herb that's used in cooking)
★ Island fish in season
Note: you can ask your inn about trying these at scheduled meals
THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT VISITING AOGASHIMA
1) You must have a reservation to stay somewhere before arriving. Lodging is limited. Call ahead, even for camping.
2) There is an ATM at the post office but come with cash just in case
3) Helicopters are often sold out a month in advance. Ferry tickets are easy to get but your departure date may not be convenient.
4) Walking is possible everywhere but many tourists rent a car. Other tourists may pick you up if you hitchhike. It takes 80 minutes to walk from the heliport to Aogashima pier.

TSUGARU JAMISEN・SHAKUHACHI・SANSHIN・UTA / Uma Ebina -FAMILY LIVE 2019-
Uma Ebina(蝦名宇摩)
Her father was a painter and a pioneer of the hippie movement in Japan. She was born and raised in the commune of Amami Oshima. When she was young, she dropped out of elementary school, and traveled around Japan and earned her travel expenses by dancing on the street. She left her hometown at the age of 15 and began to learn the traditional arts of Japanese drums “Chichibu yatai bayashi”. When she was 16 years old, she was strongly attracted by the beauty and the intensity of the sound of Tsugaru shamisen, and became a disciple of Banshu Ebina who is a master of it. During her training period of more than 20 years, she acquired the skills of Tsugaru shamisen, Shakuhachi, Singing, Folk drum and Shima Uta which is a unique group of folk song pass down in Amami Oshima, her hometown. In March 2011, the accident at the Fukushima nuclear plant caused radioactive material to scatter over a wide area. She feared its influence, evacuated and migrated with her two daughters from Saitama to Okayama prefecture. Recently, she has been performing at the events, while opening a folk song classroom in her house. Also, concerned about the health condition of children in Fukushima, she performs the recreation camp in Okayama every summer since 2012.
TSUGARU SHAMISEN
The traditional instrument representing Japan, Tsugaru shamisen. It has supported Japanese traditional culture for a long time from musical side. And on the other side, it has also supported the performance of the strolling entertainers abandoned by the public. A player creates various tones by a fine fingering and makes percussive sounds by beating the body of the instrument with a plectrum. The three strings are full of Japanese musical sensibility.
SHAKUHACHI
Shakuhachi is a woodwind instrument made of bamboo. Though it has a simple structure with removing nodes and five holes, it can produce a range of 3 octaves. Also the sound of nature such as the wind and the chirping of birds have been taken into the expression since earliest times. Until modern times it was used as a ritual implement of Buddhism. And a Buddhist group regarded the blowing of shakuhachi as a part of the training to attain spiritual enlightenment as well as Zen meditation.
SANSHIN of Amami Oshima
This instrument is used in singing folk songs in Amami Oshima (called Shima Uta) located in the South Seas of Japan. In this Album, this song is HONEN bushi (track 4). Shima Uta has developed uniquely because it is far away from the mainland of Japan, over the sea. The features are the frequent use of distinctive falsetto and the singing with a Sanshin. Sanshin originated from sānxiàn in China, as well as Shamisen. Although Shamisen culture got out of use in Japan, Sanshin is necessary in people’s life in Amami Oshima even now.
