Shimabara Castle is located in Shimabara, Japan. This castle sits between the popular Mount Unzen and Ariake Bay. This castle is five stories tall and was originally built in 1624 until 1874. The castle has since been rebuilt and now acts as a museum, while the moats and stone walls are still part of the original structure.

Shimabara Castle (島原城 Shimabara-jō), also known as Moritake Castle (森岳城 Moritake-jō) and Takaki Castle (高来城 Takaki-jō), is a Japanese castle located in Shimabara ... Shimabara Castle is a flatland castle (平城 Hirajiro), located between Ariake Bay and Mount Unzen. The outer moats, some 15 meters deep and between 30–50 meters wide, extended 360 meters east-west and 1260 meters north-south, with the enclosed area divided into three baileys. The walls extended for 3900 meters and had 16 yagura of various sizes at key points. The main donjon had five stories, and a height of 33 meters, and was connected to two secondary keeps, each with three stories. In terms of scale, it was far larger than normal for a daimyō with revenues of only 40,000 koku. Wkipedia

天守閣からは有明海や雲仙岳が見えます。

ずいぶん昔に島原のオートショップまつしたさんにお世話になりました。あれからずいぶん時が流れて でも いつか和歌山の土産を持って突然お伺いしてありがとうございましたを言おうと今まで思い続けてきました。島原のイメージはまつしたさんの最高に温かいお人柄そのもので・・・。
手土産玄関へ忘れて なんだか久しぶりすぎて突然すぎて 色々考えて行きそびれましたが
出会う人出会う人松下さんみたいな温かさでした。

The Water City | Gujo Hachiman 名水の町・郡上八幡
Gujo Hachiman, also known as the Water City! It's just about in the middle of Gifu Prefecture, and I highly, highly recommend visiting!! It's a mountain city with rivers running through the middle. There are koi fish everywhere, you can jump into the water, and the are tons of old-fashioned stores with awesome things to look at. I absolutely loved it!

Shimabara Castle
Our visit of the Castle of Shimabara and some of its exhibits. Most of the relics seemed to be from the Shimabara Rebellion. This place is beautiful in later February for the plum blossoms, and late spring for the cherry blossoms.

There is a sea in front of Shimabara Castle, and Mt.Unzen is behind.The castle was completed in 1624. Christianity were banned through mass execution by Matsukura. In addition, the construction cost of the castle put a heavy burden on the people.This repression was a main factor leading to Shimabara rebellion.The rebellion was suppressed, but Matsukura family was destroyed by orders of Shogun in Edo (Tokyo).
