Dignitaries of Japan and Leadership of the US 7th Fleet come together at a reception ceremony as part of the opening events of the 79th Black Ship Festival. The 79th Shimoda Black Ship Festival promotes peaceful relations between the Japanese and American people and commemorates the 164th anniversary of the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry to Japan in 1854, an event which marked the beginning of diplomacy and trade agreements between the U.S. and Japan. Finally after 2 days in the extreme heat the Omikoshi comes home for another year. Great festival and it shows how much work the locals put into this festival and how proud they are of it...Its great to be a part of it all...

79th Shimoda Black Ship Festival 2018

The 79th Shimoda Black Ship Festival commemorates the 164th anniversary of the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry to Japan in 1854, an event which marked the beginning of diplomacy and trade agreements between the U.S. and Japan.

2018.07.20(金)～22((日)の三日間、下田港 外ヶ岡特設会場で開催された第40回 国際カジキ釣り大会と同時開催のマリンフェスタ下田にて下田太鼓が披露されました。

下田太鼓は毎年8月14日と15日に開催される八幡神社の例大祭である下田太鼓祭りの日に旧町内を練り歩く下田の大きなお祭りで見られる夏の風物詩です。

ぜひ皆さん夏のお盆休みに下田に遊びに来てください。

下田市の爪木崎で水仙まつり

下田市の爪木崎で「水仙まつり」が行われていて、会場は水仙の甘い香りに包まれています。
　下田市の景勝地、須崎半島の爪木崎ではピーク時には約３００万本の野水仙が咲き誇ります。１２月２０日から「水仙まつり」が始まり、初日には下田海中水族館のフンボルトペンギンが駆けつけました。２０１９年は夏の台風と１１月が暖かかった影響で、１週間ほど開花が遅れていているということです。１月５日と１２日、１９日には獲れたての魚介を使った地元の漁師鍋「池之段煮味噌」が先着２００人に無料で振る舞われます。「水仙まつり」は１月３１日までです。

栗原はるみさんと下田の祭

平成二十二年下田八幡神社例大祭八月十五日、九時五十五分「鈴与」前の太鼓橋。下田出身の栗原はるみさんもNHKの番組取材のために見物していた。毎年曜日に関係なく八月十四、十五日の二日間行われる祭だが、数年前までポスターさえ作らせなかった秘祭。個人的には博多山笠や岸和田のだんじり祭に引けを取らない激しい祭だと思っている。是非、実際に足を運んで見ていただきたい。

「しただふるさと祭り」2.6万人の人出

新潟県三条市下田地区の夏まつり「しただふるさと祭り〜雨生の大蛇祭〜」が8月24日、下田大橋たもとの河川敷の特設会場を中心に行われ、過ごしやすい陽気にも恵まれて主催者発表2万6千人の人出でにぎわった。
