古き時代から現代まで、豊かな自然と人々が創り出してきた文化。機関車が線路を走る風景が今も残る茨城県筑西市。この土地を訪れた旅行者はまず、母子島遊水地で水面に映る雄大な筑波山の景色を眺めた後、しもだて地域交流センター「アルテリオ」内にある「しもだて美術館」にて、筑西市の誇る作家たち絵画や漆器の美術品や近代陶芸作家の先駆者である板谷波山の作品の展示を見学します。その後板谷波山の生家や様々な資料が展示されている板谷波山記念館、国登録有形文化材の荒川家住宅「荒為」を見学していきます。お昼に農家レストラン「カサ・デ・ロサ」にて筑西産の銘柄豚「キングポーク」を用いた料理を堪能した後、国の重要文化財に指定されている内外大神宮を訪れ、お参りをして境内を散策しながらその景観を眺めます。場所を移し、折本駅から「SLもおか」に乗車。旅行者は車窓から夕日の景色を眺め、最後に記念に機関車の写真を撮ります。
