Shimonoseki, Japan - Kaikyō Yume Tower (2019)
The Kaikyō Yume Tower (海峡ゆめタワー) dominates the city of Shimonoseki and is the tallest tower in western Japan. Standing 153 metres tall, it was opened in July 1996. It forms a part of the Kaikyō Messe Shimonoseki building, which houses a conference centre and corporate offices.
The tower was designed by NTT Power and Building Facilities and built by Takenaka Corporation.
Upon paying an admission fee, tourists can visit an observation deck in the glass sphere at the top of the building for panoramic views over the city and the Kanmon Straits.
The address of the tower is 3-3-1 Buzenda-cho, Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi, 750-0018

Exploring Kumamoto and Shimonoseki, Japan - Day 6 & 7 Ovation of the Seas
After our day exploring Nagasaki, our next port of call was Kumamoto which we organised a tour to see the sights. We found we were docked over an hour away and found a group tour was the most efficient way to see the top spots.
Booking with an outside company to the ship, we managed to get an excellent rate and a local guide and I was never in any doubt we wouldn't get back in time for the ship.
We saw Kumamoto castle which was affected by the earthquakes in the area 2 years ago but it was still incredible before going on to sample local delicacies and entertainment. Our final stop was Suizenji gardens which took over 80 years to landscape!
The following day saw a first for Royal Caribbean as they docked in Shimonoseki - home to the puffer fish - for the very first time.
We wandered round a fish market, saw a fantastic aquarium and climbed many steps to see over the harbour and take in a local shrine.
Our next 2 days are at sea so stay tuned for some fun rollerskating, rock climbing and more of the flowrider.
Music is not my own.

What You Should Know Before Going To Shimonoseki Kaikyokan
From KEIKO Conservation Japan.
This week for #FreedomFriday in collaboration with Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS) and Ceta Base we've decided to feature the Japanese dolphinarium #Shimonoseki Kaikyokan (#海響館). We're doing these features so that anyone who feels passionately about this issue (hopefully all of you ????) can familiarize yourself with the individual facilities, especially with the #Taiji killing season happening now.
You can visit our website to learn a bit more about this facility and a couple ways you can help, even if it's just from your phone or laptop. Go to opsociety.org to learn all about the global movement they created with the film The Cove or go to cetabase.org to dive in deep on the history and records of captive dolphins.
As always, feel free to repost and spread the word.

(Akama Shrine)
Akama Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.
It is dedicated to Antoku, a Japanese emperor who died as a child in the Battle of Dan-no-ura (aka Dannoura), which occurred nearby in 1185.
This battle was important in the history of Japan because it brought an end to Genpei War in which the Minamoto clan defeated the rival Taira clan, and ended the Taira bid for control of Japan.
The shrine is situated on the waterfront of the Kanmon Strait, between the centre of Shimonoseki and the tourist restaurants of Karato, Kanmon Wharf. The bright red main gate makes it a very visible sight.
The colours and style of the gate are inspired by Ryūgū-jō. Antoku's grandmother, Nii-no-Ama, who drowned with Antoku, wished for their palace to be created underwater as she jumped into the sea. Ryūgū-jō is a mythical underwater palace, belonging to the dragon god of the sea. Nii-no-Ama told Antoku, before jumping, that they would go to an underwater palace, without referring to Ryūgū-jō. Then, Antoku's mother (Kenreimon-In, aka Taira no Tokuko) had a dream, in which they were living in Ryūgū-jō.
In 1871, the Kanpei-sha identified the hierarchy of government-supported shrines most closely associated with the Imperial family.
The kampeisha were shrines venerated by the imperial family. This category encompasses those sanctuaries enshrining emperors, imperial family members, or meritorious retainers of the Imperial family. Up through 1940, the mid-range of ranked Imperial shrines or Kanpei-chūsha included the shrine; and it was then known as Akama-gū In 1940, Akama's status was changed Kanpei-taisha , which is the highest rank; and since then, it has been known as Akama jingū.
WOW! Yamaguchi city is amazing! | 1st day | Slurp In Japan | Ep. 5 | Yael & Roy's Mania | Japan Vlog
YAMAGUCHI CITY!!
I've been waiting to get to Yamaguchi since I booked my flight to Japan. The most exciting adventure for me in Japan is being in Yamaguchi city.
Why?
Because I was lucky enough to get invited to study how to make proper Japanese Ramen in a local Ramen shop in Yamaguchi city.
For those of you who just started following our channel
( if you haven't yet - Don't forget to subscribe!)
My obsession is Ramen. Ever since I tasted a real Japanese ramen, I was hooked.
I'm determined to learn how to make a proper Japanese ramen.
So since I came back from my previous trip to Japan on February 2017 -
I've been reading, studying and practicing the art of making ramen but I knew that I had to go and see how they really do it in Japan.
So as I said before - I was lucky enough, and a dear friend of mine helped me fulfill this dream.
This video shows the first day of my stay in Yamaguchi city.
Thanks to my local friends - it was such an amazing day, full of beautiful sightseeing and GREAT!!! Food and drinks.
Yamaguchi is a small city ( compared to other Japanese cities ) located in a valley surrounded by mountains, with a small population of around 200,000 people. Yamaguchi area has a lot of natural hot spring water baths, also known as onsen:
- An onsen (温泉) is a Japanese hot spring; the term also extends to cover the bathing facilities and traditional inns frequently situated around a spring.
There are Even public small Feet-Onsens (Hashiyu) all over the cities that you can use if you want to give your feet a little hot-spring-water relaxation ( be careful, the water is very hot ! ).
On my first day, I meet with some of my local friends here ( Brain and Yoshimi, I love you guys! ). We drove around the town for a bit and went to see a local famous Buddhist temple, Rurikō-ji (瑠璃光寺 Rurikō-ji), with its five-story pagoda. During this whole time, Yoshimi, which speaks perfect English, decided that I should practice my Japanese, so she spoke only Japanese with me. It was hard, but fun and very helpful!
After a short stop at a feet-onsen, we went to eat and get some beer and food from 2 different local Izakayas. An izakaya (居酒屋) is a type of informal Japanese pub. They are casual places for after-work drinking and usually has a variety of Japanese Dishes that serves to the middle of the table and shared by the table.
Food is usually ordered slowly over several courses rather than all at once. The kitchen will serve the food when it is ready rather than in the formal courses of Western restaurants.
It was so much fun! Here is what we got to eat:
- Takowasa: raw octopus heavily flavored with wasabi
- Hakata style Gyoza
- Yaki Nasu: Japanese Grilled Eggplant
- Gyoza soup
- Fried rice
- Daikon to Konnyaku no Nimono: A common izakaya side dish
- Sashimi plate
- Namagaki: raw oyster with lemon
- Deep fried Fugu ( Blow-fish - Yamaguchi's specialty )
- Corn kakiage fritters: Japanese fresh corn tempura
- Beef Tataki: tataki refers to beef or fish that is quickly seared over high heat, leaving the center very rare.
- Korokke: deep-fried potato croquette.
It was an amazing day, in a beautiful place, great people and very delicious food!
Hope you guys enjoyed this video!
