In Japan you still find many active steam trains, but what makes Oigawa Railway so special is that it is the only steam train to operate year-round on a regular, scheduled service. And it runs as an Express Train on the route, overtaking the local (electrical) train at a half-way stop! The landscape to both sides is amazing as the train crosses the river multiple times while going up into the mountains. You also see many tea and rice fields. If you want to ride a steam train in Japan, search for SL trains as they are called here. SL for Steam Locomotive.

First I would like to apologise for the amount of feedback that was picked up by the mic due to the strong winds that day.
Like I said I wanted to make more videos that featured things in Kumamoto. Last week I went to 'Sakuranobaba Josaien' which is quite near Kumamoto Castle. Here in Sakuranobaba Josaien you can learn more about Kumamoto Prefecture and Kumamoto Castle. But at Sakura no Koji were I shot this video you will be able to sample many different types of food from all over Kumamoto Prefecture. You can also buy Kumamoto themed gifts from this area too.

On the train in Kyushu, Japan
This is a compilation of some videos I took during a 10-day trip around Kyushu, in July 2008. The route was like this:
Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Kirishima, Miyazaki, Nobeoka, Takachiho, mt. Aso-san, Kumamoto, Fukuoka.
The video's are all taken from local trains between Kirishima and Aso-san, probably most of them (if not all) are actually from around Takachiho, but I don't remember.
I used the youtube image stabilizer filter to remove the bumps and shocks, but it causes distortion and random zooming; but, the video is pretty smooth, while the ride wasn't :-)

Yoshino is most famous for its proximity to Yoshino Mountain, famous for its many thousands of sakura trees; much poetry has been written on the subject by several famous authors, including Chiyo and Uejima Onitsura. These flowering cherry trees were planted in four groves at different altitudes, in part so that the trees would be visible coming into bloom at different times in the spring. An account of Yoshino written in about 1714 explained that, on their climb to the top, travelers would be able to enjoy the lower 1,000 cherry trees at the base, the middle 1,000 on the way, the upper 1,000 toward the top, and the 1,000 in the precincts of the inner shrine at the top.

Steam trains in Japan: The Japanese steam locomotive 58654 with the Japanese joyful train SL Hitoyoshi crossed the steel bridge and passes now Watari village. VIDEO Kikuchi; A City of Water, Nature and History
Kikuchi is located in the center of Kyushu, in northern Kumamoto Prefecture.
Here, spring water from the outer mountains of Mt. Aso trickles out of Kikuchi Suigen and forms the Kikuchi River and the Koshi River, both of which flow through the city.
This pure water nourishes the earth, which allows farmers here to produce a wide variety of crops.
But there is more to Kikuchi than just natural beauty.
The city was known as a vibrant and busting castle town from the Heian period through to the Muromachi period.
Even today, the city offers glimpses of medieval history and culture through its numerous historic sites, temples and shrines.
With its vast natural environment and rich history, Kikuchi truly is an idyllic garden city.

I took this movie at Banetsu-saisen Takinoshita railroad crossing near Ogino station.
This place was not the place that did power running, but gave smoke for fan service today.
