Final work of Robert Wu, Zhongshan Metro Mall, aka “Eslite R79”, opens
Eslite bookstore''s founder, Robert Wu, passed away last month, but his final creation, the Zhongshan Metro Mall, also known as Eslite R79, was officially opened today. Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je was there to cut the ribbon. The mayor said that Wu gave the people of Taipei something to be proud of, and enriched the culture of the city. Breeze Center and Shinkong Mitsukoshi in Xinyi celebrate birthdays
Two Taipei department stores are celebrating their anniversaries with giveaways, sweepstakes, and shows. Breeze Center in Xinyi is observing its birthday with a 25-day raffle - shoppers who spend at least NT$6,000 can win food and accommodation on a vacation to the Maldives. Also in Xinyi, Shinkong Mitsukoshi is celebrating with a 26-day sales event. The two stores are eyeing a boost worth billions in sales over the anniversary period. A line of customers, stretching as far as the eye can see. The Taipei Metro Zhongshan Station (Chinese: 中山站; pinyin: Zhōngshān Zhàn, formerly transliterated as Chungshan Station until 2003) is a station on the Tamsui Line, located on the border of Zhongshan and Datong districts, Taipei, Taiwan. It is a transfer station between the Tamsui Line and Songshan Line. The station opened on March 28, 1997 for traffic on the Tamsui Line, and Songshan Line services opened on November 15, 2014. It is located in the middle of the underground Zhongshan Metro Mall and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store.

Eslite to close 24-hour bookstore at Dunnan Financial Building
Now for booklovers across Taipei. The popular 24-hour Eslite bookstore is moving out of Dunnan Financial Building. The bookstore plans to leave when its lease expires in 2020, but chairwoman Mercy Wu said it would reopen with the same 24-hour service. Dunnan Financial Building itself will close for renovation that same year. The building operator plans to add 5,000 ping of floor space over a three-year renovation project.Eslite''s 24-hour bookstore in Dunhua South Road is a favorite among night owls. But once its lease expires in 2020, this haven for bookworms will close up shop. The building it''s based in has applied for urban renewal. The application has already passed environmental assessment.Huang Li-linTaipei environment officialAccording to the contractor''s timeline, the project will take about three years from demolition to the completion of construction.After renovation, the building will be 28 stories high, with six basement levels. It will be leased out to restaurants, financial service providers, retailers, and other businesses. The renovated building will be valued at over NT$20 billion, experts say. Hsu Chin-huangFinance expertThe building currently has around 15,000 pings of floor space. After renovation, it''s expected to have over 20,000 pings. This alone can increase its value by 20 to 30%. The market rate in this area is currently NT$2,600 per ping. After renovation, one ping could jump above NT$3,000 or even NT$3,500. Eslite''s chairwoman Mercy Wu says there are plans to reopen the 24-hour bookstore after it closes.
