Ise shrine/Ise Jingu
Ise Grand Shrine is Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrine and dates back to the 3rd Century. It is considered to be the spiritual home of the Japanese and its national religion Shinto, and as such receives over six million pilgrims and tourists every year.
Ise Grand Shrine also known as Ise Jingu is a complex of over 125 shrines located in Ise City, Mie Prefecture. It is centered around the main shrines of Naiku (inner shrine) and Geku (outer shrine).
The outer shrine is easy to get to and is only a 10 minute walk from Ise-shi Station. The inner shrine is several kilometres away, so a bus from the station or the outer shrine is your best bet.
The inner shrine (内宮) is believed to date from the 3rd Century and enshrines the sun goddess Amaterasu. It is held in higher reverence than the outer shrine. This is due in part to the fact that it is purportedly the home of the Sacred Mirror of the Emperor (one of the three imperial regalia). The sacred mirror (Yata no Kagami) was given to the first emperor of Japan by the sun goddess herself. This makes the shrine one of Japan’s most important and holiest sites.
The outer shrine (外宮) located about 6 kilometres from the inner shrine dates from the 5th Century.
The shrine is unique and one interesting fact is the shrine buildings at both Naiku and Geku as well as the Uji Bridge are rebuilt every 20 years. This is part of an important Shinto belief of the death and renewal of nature and the impermanence of all things wabi-sabi.
Exact imitations of the shrine buildings are built on adjacent sites using traditional methods and techniques. That means these exact replicas use no nails, only wooden dowels and interlocking joints.
A special ceremony is then conducted to transfer the kami (god of the shrine) back to its new home.
The wood of the old shrine buildings is not put to waste, but is recycled in order to reconstruct the torii (shrine gate) at the shrine’s entrance. Leftover wood is also sent to shrines around Japan to be used for rebuilding their own structures.

出雲大神宮 京都 Izumo-Dai-jingu Shinto Shrine Kyoto Japan Full HD
Meiji Jingu: A Shinto Shrine Surrounded by Forest
Located near Harajuku Station and one of Tokyo's top attractions, Meiji Jingu is situated in the middle of a huge forest. The shrine was completed in 1921 and dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife Empress Shoken. Most of the buildings were destroyed during World War II but thanks to a fundraising effort, the shrine was reconstructed in 1958. The area is covered by 120,000 trees consisting of 365 different species, which were donated by people from all over Japan.

Hiroshima streetcar (more like a train than a bus)
Video #29 of 34 of our 32011 trip to Japan. I was fascinated by the trains in Japan, including this Hiroshima streetcar, which took us from the Atomic Bomb Peace Park to Miyajima, where we boarded a ferry to see the Shinto shrine at Ise island.
Naikū | The Inner Shrine | The City of Ise in Mie prefecture | Japan
The Inner Shrine of Ise-jingū is thought to date from the 3rd century and enshrines the sun goddess, Amaterasu-Ōmikami, considered the ancestral goddess of the imperial family and guardian deity of the Japanese nation. Naikū is held in even higher reverence than Gekū because it houses the sacred mirror of the emperor, one of the three imperial regalia (the other two are the sacred beads, at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, and the sacred sword, at Atsuta-jingū in Nagoya).

Ise Jingu Grand Shrine - Naiku The Inner Shrine, Ise City
Ise Jingu Grand Shrine (伊勢神宮) is one of the most important and sacred Shinto Shrines in Japan. It is located in Ise City (伊勢市) of Mie Prefecture. In fact there are two parts of this shrine, one is called Naiku or the inner shrine (内宮), second is the Geku, or the outer shrine (外宮).
This video depicts the Naiku or the inner shrine and the main worshiped deity in this shrine is Amaterasu-Omikami or the Sun Goddess. The main worshipped area is out of bounds for cameras, so this video goes only up to the outer areas of the Shrine's main worship hall.

Sefa Utaki Sacred Site in Okinawa Japan
This is a video I took in 2011 in Okinawa Japan. We are at Sefa Utaki which is believed to be one of the most sacred sites on the island. It is a very important place in Okinawan culture. Unlike the intricately decorated Buddhist temples or consecrated Shinto Shrines, Utaki are often times unadorned and unassuming locations located in groves, clearings, or are natural rock formations. Many believers think of Utaki as a kind of portal to the supernatural world.
There was a bus load of Japanese tourist the day we visited. It had rained and the rock on the trail was slippery. Note the ladies in high heels walking the trail.

Todaiji (Tōdai-ji, Eastern Great Temple),is a Buddhist temple complex located in the city of Nara, Japan. Its Great Buddha Hall (Daibutsuden), the largest wooden building in the world, houses the world's largest bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana, known in Japanese simply as Daibutsu . The temple also serves as the Japanese headquarters of the Kegon school of Buddhism. The temple is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site as Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara, together with seven other sites including temples, shrines and places in the city of Nara. Sika deer, regarded as messengers of the gods in the Shinto religion, roam the grounds freely.

Izumo Taisha Shrine (出雲大社 島根県)
Bus ride to Izumo Taisha Shrine, is one of the most ancient and important Shinto shrines in Japan. Walking tour around.
Located in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, it is dedicated to the Shinto deity of marriage. No record gives the date of establishment.
According to the two oldest chronicles of Japan, the grandson of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu descended from the heavens, and was granted the country.
The Sun Goddess pleased with this presented Izumo-taisha to Ōkuninushi, the guardian god of happiness.
