秋田県男鹿市の真山神社で2月の第2週金曜日から3日間行われる、なまはげ柴灯祭りです。境内では柴燈が焚かれ、なまはげ踊りや、なまはげ太鼓などが披露されます。祭りの最後にはなまはげが下山して、観光客が訪れている会場内を練り歩きます。
男鹿のナマハゲ行事を含む「来訪神：仮面・仮装の神々」は、2018年11月にユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録されました。

Japanese Traditional Festival of Namahage Sedo Matsuri(なまはげ柴灯まつり) in Oga City Akita Prefecture Tohoku Japan.
It is a festival for sightseeing held in February every year based on legend of Namahage transmitted to Oga City, Akita Prefecture.
Visiting God: Gods of masks and costume including Oga's Namahage event was registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in November 2018.

Namahage Sedo Festival, Akita
Fantastic Places in Cool Japan :
“Namahage Sedo Festival”, one of the “Michinoku Great Snow Festival”, is a winter festival that represents Oga’s winter at Shinzan Shrine in Kitaura, Oga City, Akita Prefecture. Starting in 1964, it is held every February for 3 days on the second Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
This festival is a popular event for tourists every year when you can experience the power of the majestic Namahage in a fantastic atmosphere. In November 2018, the visiting god event “Namahage of Oga” was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and is becoming increasingly precious and important.

Namahage Sedo Festival in Akita
Every February, the Kitaura Shinzan Shrine in Oga City combines the Namahage festival and the Sedo festival into this signature winter experience. Have your children been good little ones? Watch out or the namahage spirits will get you!

Every New Year's Eve these mountain spirits, the namahage, descend on the town of Oga on Japan's northwest coast.
It's an ancient ritual whose impressive displays have become well-known throughout Japan as a symbol of Akita.
Half a century ago, a separate special festival was created featuring the namahage where outsiders could see them as well. For the 50th anniversary, this year it was bigger than ever.
