ミシャワカ市の高校生が来塩　Sister City Mishawaka Delegation Welcome Reception

A welcome reception was held on June 12th for the Mishawaka delegation visiting Shiojiri. Shiojiri and Mishawaka's sister city friendship began in 1972 and has grew continually ever since then. The 20 members of this delegation included their leader, Mrs. Melissa Raffelock, high school and university students. The 11 host families were also at the welcome reception. As the chairman of the Department of Sister City Exchange, Mayor Oguchi conveyed his warm greeting in English saying Among Shiojiri's sister cities, Mishawaka is our oldest friend. Although this is a short stay for you all, please enjoy yourselves while here in Shiojiri and in Japan! He also presented his gifts to the delegation. The delegation leader, Mrs. Melissa Raffelock, gave a speech in Japanese and said, In the States, we learn about Shiojiri and Japan through books but it is hard to grasp how human relationships work in Japan and to learn about Japanese people's hearts. She then reflected on the visit to Kikyo Elementary School, where the delegation had school lunch with the elementary students and helped out during cleaning time, and said I truly hope all Mishawaka and Shiojiri citizens will be able to experience the same joy we experienced. Following her speech, all the members of the delegation and the host families gave brief self-introductions and shared their thoughts on how precious friendships are and gave thanks for everyone's kindness. The delegation stayed with their host families until June 15th, 2010 and then visited Kyoto, Nara and the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima. They flew out of Japan on June 24th, 2010.

2010年6月12日（土）、米国ミシャワカ市からの訪問団の歓迎レセプションが、チロルの森で行われました。
ミシャワカ高校の生徒を中心とした訪問団の皆さん20人を招き、そのホストファミリーや都市交流協会関係者などが参加して行われました。
お互いにプレゼント交換したり、記念撮影をしたりして、友好を深めました。
塩尻市には、2010年6月11日～15日まで滞在しました。
