Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Mom's Parrsboro Nova Scotia trip July 2015
LINKS BELOW WILL SKIP YOU AHEAD TO POINTS OF INTEREST. This is where i learned to love rocks.
SPECIAL LINKS TO HUGE TIDE VIDEOS AT BOTTOM. Mom didn't get the best tide shots so i link some...
Parrsoboro, Nova Scotia at the Minas Basin of the Bay of Fundy has the World's highest Tides. With a 43 ft average and 55 ft peak, the tides affect Everything. Many of the rivers are gated like the one you will see here to keep them from going dry and or salty for miles upriver during tide changes. The low/high shot you will see is a High tide, but full low is much lower!! My family has vacationed there my whole life. My sister and I moved and Dad passed away but Mom still makes it most years. We know many of the people in town after so many summers there, and I'm in touch with several of the people i know there still. I intend to go in the next few years but it's tough to work out the logistics, so I had Mom take my Flip Camera up there and film for us.
Note- Mom rents the little cabin for a week but leaves for two nights in the middle to go camping.
Rockhounds collect rocks. It is perfectly legal and acceptable to dig and take rocks and crystals from these areas. One place not shown called Joggins had so many fossils anyone could easily find some but it became one spot that has restrictions on collecting due to popularity. Most of the coastline is these crumbling cliffs. Water and ice causes regular rockfalls that expose new veins and cover the old ones. In some places collecting an amethyst might mean denying someone else the chance to see it but here, if you dont get it nature will cover it up again. Factor that with the extremely low population, Rockhounds are free to hunt and collect from these coasts. My father spent most of our vacations up on those walls looking picking and hammering away at veins of quartz searching for amethyst. Dad did find some fairly good sized amethyst occasionally but mainly nice pieces of quartz, agate, and the occasional fossil. At Horseshoe cove we would look for Ring Jasper among the regular Jasper.

5:04 Kipawo Theater in the distance is a historic ferryboat that is covered and converted into a Playhouse
6:14 hiking at Partridge Island. Yep, Mom fell and broke her nose- Not while filming or i would feel really bad. She is a nurse. She just snapped it back into place and kept on going !!!
back in town Mom mentions the Irving Station, Wheaton family owns it. We knew the kids of most of the business owners, the town is very small so if you are there enough you will know most of the people in it.
