The Hector: Canada’s Mayflower
Thursday December 14 at 7:30pm AEDT
September, 1773. A battered three-masted ship, The Hector, docks in Nova Scotia. The ship’s 11-week voyage had not been easy – but would inspire a swell of mass immigration from Scotland to Canada that would transform North America. This is the story of that gruelling first journey and the immigrants’ struggles to build new lives in a hostile landscape. Presenter Neil Oliver uses diaries, maps and ship logs to reconstruct the voyage and explore the passengers’ lives. This exclusive documentary also steps on board a life-size replica of The Hector, recently restored, and meets descendants of the original passengers.
