Tom Bawcock: The Legend of Mousehole (college Documentary)
A documentary made about the Cornish legend Tom Bawcock and his story of how he saved the small tome of Mousehole from starvation in the winter time. This was made as a project for college and is something that i chose to do about as it was personal to me due to my love of Cornwall. Feel free to comment thoughts about it and any questions!
Tom Bawcock's Eve
Tom Bawcock's Eve every 23rd December in Mousehole, Cornwall, celebrates the story of the legendary fisherman who saved the town from starvation when he landed 'seven sorts of fish' as the song goes. The famed Star Gazey pie is baked with fish 'swimming' through the pastry crust and given out for free in the Ship Inn. Local children have a lantern procession and Mousehole male voice choir sing the traditional song on the harbourside. Nice.
A merry place you may believe,
Was Mouzel 'pon Tom Bawcock's Eve.
To be there then who wud'n wesh,
To sup o' sibm sorts o' fesh
When morgy brath
Had cleared the path,
Comed lances for a fry,
And then us had
A bit o' scad
An' starry-gazey pie!
Next comed fairmaids,
Bra' thrusty jades,
As made our oozles dry,
An' ling an' hake,
Enough to make
A rauning shark to sigh!
As aich we'd clunk,
A's health were drunk
In bumpers bremmen high,
An when up came
Tom Bawcock's name
We praised un to the sky!
A merry place you may believe,
Was Mouzel 'pon Tom Bawcock's Eve.
To be there then who wud'n wesh,
To sup o' sibm sorts o' fesh

Singing in the streets of Mousehole on Tom Bawcock's Eve
Tom Bawcock's Eve is an annual festival, held on 23 December, in Mousehole, Cornwall, England.
The festival is held in celebration and memorial of the efforts of legendary Mousehole resident Tom Bawcock to lift a famine from the village by going out to fish in a severe storm. During this festival Stargazy pie (a mixed fish, egg and potato pie with protruding fish heads) is eaten and depending on the year of celebration a lantern procession takes place.

The Pie Made of (Fish) Heads
In Mousehole, England, there’s a peculiar delicacy known as the Stargazy pie. Served with fish heads and tails poking out the crust, this Cornish classic has a legendary past—one that includes high storms, a heroic fisherman and, of course, lots of fish. Today, the Ship Inn pub continues the proud tradition, hosting a large celebration every December 23rd and serving up enough pie to feed the entire community.
