Mandu or Mandavgad is an ancient city in the present-day Mandav area of the Dhar district. It is located in the Malwa region of western Madhya Pradesh, India, at 35 km from Dhar city.
Mandu, due to its strategic position and natural defences, was an important place with a rich and varied history. It was an important military outpost and its military past can be gauged by the circuit of the battlemented wall, which is nearly 37 km (23 mi) and is punctuated by 12 gateways. The wall encloses a large number of palaces, mosques, Jain temples of 14th century and other buildings. The oldest mosque dates from 1405; the finest is the Jama Masjid or great mosque, a notable example of Pashtun architecture. The marble-domed tomb of this ruler is also magnificent
The splendid architecture of Jahaz Mahal occupies an expense in the Mandu region of Madhya Pradesh. It was built during the reign of Mandu Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Khilji, who is believed to have as many as 15,000 women as his consorts. To accommodate the women belonging to the royal consortium, Jahaz Mahal was built in second half of the 15th century. Jahaz Mahal best captures the medieval history of Mundu. Here 'Jahaz' refers to a ship and 'Mahal' refers to a palace, which is a reflection of the edifice itself. Surrounded by pond water, it seems to be floating gently above the surface of the water.
The architecture and structure of Jahaaz Mahal are both awe-inspiring and marvellous in terms of its engineering. Emulating the appearance of a mighty ship, the palace is an amalgam of Afghan, Mughal, Hindu and Mesopotamian architecture styles. It was built with a meticulous precision that followed acoustic water supply patterns, subtly reflecting the pond that lies overlooking the palace. The balconies are constructed in a way that amplifies sound such that reverberates through the entire body of Jahaz Mahal. The intricate carvings, precise engineering design and pristine beauty along with its close proximity to other tourist attractions such as Roopmati's Pavilion, Baz Bahadur's Palace, Hindola Mahal, Jain Temple, and Jami Masjid make it one of the most important tourist spots in the city.

Jahaz Mahal Mandu India Ship Palace
This ancient architectural marvel was built by an anonymous but talented architect for the Sultan of Mandu Ghiyas-ud-din-khilji. According to historians and folklore, his harem of women was around 15,000 so he had this incredible palace created for them. Could you imagine having that many boyfriends or girlfriends!? Many of the marvels of Jahaz Mahal such as mentions of steam baths and hot pools, and even giant waterslides died long ago, but the water sourced here still supports 7,000 Mandu villagers.

Palace on ship in Mandu (Jahaz Mahal)
Is it a palace on water? Or an anchored ship? It's both and is in Madhya Pradesh! This monument in Mandu will bring alive the child-like wonder in you, making you sing MP mein dil hua bache sa!
The Ship Palace (Jahaz Mahal) and Hindola Mahal
Jahaz Mehal/Ship Palace Situated between two artificial tanks /lakes, this Magnificent architectural marvel is so named as it appears as a ship floating in water. Built by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din-Khilji, it is said it served as a harem for the sultan (even most of the history is heresy for me) . It is a major tourist attraction and presents many scenic views and photographic opportunities.
Hindola Mahal - meaning Swing palace is so named due to its sloping side walls. It is one of a set buildings making up the royal palace complex at Mandu, which consists of the Jahaz Mahal, the Hindola Mahal, the Tawili Mahal, and the Nahar Jharokha. The Hindola Mahal may have been used as an audience chamber. There are a number of other, undated structures surrounding the palace - an evidence of the rich and glorious past of India.

Jahaz Mahal mandu located in district of dhar. in this video I'm going to explore jahaz mahal mandu and other important forts like Rani Roopmati Mahal Mandy etc mandu is also knows as Mandav or mandavgarh.
later I came to know that in dabagg 3 shooting is done. which I didn't mention in video.
Jahaz Mahal is located in the Royal Enclave, which is situated in the northern part of the Citadel of Mandu.
An elongated building measuring 110 meters in length and only 15 meters in breadth it stands on a narrow stretch of land with two water bodies on either side, thus giving it a ship like appearance, hence the name Jahaz Mahal or Ship Palace.
Built during the reign of Ghiyathuddin Khalji (1469 – 1500) the double storeyed of Jahaz Mahal tower to a height of 9.7 meters with Munj Talao on the west and the Kapur Talao on the east. Jahaz Mahal was built in the later part of the 15th century and served as a pleasure house of Ghiyathuddin Khalji and his 15,000 harem ladies.

Mandavgarh - City Of Joy, Jahaj Mahal (Jal-Mahal or Ship Palace)..
'Mandav' or 'Mandavgarh', Popularly known as MANDU,is situated at a distance of about 90 km from the Indore city of Madhya Pradesh.
Indore is well connected with other cities of India so reaching Indore was the most comfortable part of the journey.
Mandavgarh is famous for its amazing Fort. The fort is 82 km in perimeter and is considered to be The Biggest In India.
You will start getting the glimpse of the ruins and monuments as you approach the hill top and tableland of Mandu. Mandu has got picturesque backdrop overlooking the valley of Vindhya Range.
Jahaz-Mahal (Ship Palace): It is the monument noted for its romantic beauty. Standing lengthwise in a narrow strip of Land between the waters of the Munja and Kapur Tanks (Talab or Talav), the palace resembles a ship. It was probably built by the pleasure-loving Sultan Shiyathud-din (A.D 1469-1500) for his large harem.
It was probably built to offer a private escape for Royal Couples..
Jahaz-Mahal is one of the finest examples of Afghan Architecture in India. Gadashah’s palace is another beautiful architecture opposite to Jahaz Mahal but now largely a ruin. Kapur Talab (Tank) in the front of Jahaz Mahal adds a unique charm to the complex.Though it has not been dated it is likely that it was constructed after the Khalji era..
It was originally founded in the 10th century by the Parmar rulers who made it their fort capital. Later, it was conquered by the Delhi Sultans, who named it as Shadiabad, meaning the City of Joy. There are a host of historical monuments here which are constructed on the fusion of Hindu and Afghan style of architecture.

2. Mandu is a celebration in stone, of life and joy, A tribute to the love shared between the poet-prince Baz Bahadur and his beautiful consort, Rani Roopmati. The balladeers of Malwa still sing of their euphoric romance.
Explore :
Perched along the Vindhya ranges at an altitude of 2,000 feet, Mandu, with its natural defenses, was originally the fort capital of the Parmar rulers of Malwa. Towards the end of the 13th century, it came under the sway of the Sultans of Malwa, the first of whom named it Shadiabad - 'city of joy'. And indeed the pervading spirit of Mandu was of gaiety; and its rulers built exquisite palaces like the Jahaz and Hindola Mahals, ornamental canals, baths and pavilions, as graceful and refined as those times of peace and plenty.
Each of Mandu's structures is an architectural gem; some are outstanding like the massive Jami Masjid and Hoshang Shah's tomb, which provided inspiration to the master builders of the Taj Mahal centuries later.

ship palace of Delhi : Jahaz Mahal l Top News Networks
The Jahaz Mahal Palace which means 'Ship Palace' is situated within the Mehrauli Complex in South Delhi and on the north-eastern corner of Hauz-i-Shamsi within the same complex.
The Jahaz Mahal would create a beautiful reflection on the Reservoir Lake or tank named Hauz-i-Shamsi built during the Slave dynasty by Sultan Iltutmish giving it an illusion of a Ship floating on water and hence the name was inspired from this fact and originated. The Palace was constructed sometime between 1452 and 1526 towards the end of the Lodhi dynasty rule and the beginning of the Mughal Empire reign in Northern India. It was also called as the 'Sarai' or 'Inn' mainly for the purpose of housing travellers and pilgrims from far off places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Arab, Turkey and Morocco during their visits to different Muslim Shrines in Delhi.

Ancient Mandu, India: The Magnificent Royal Palace Complex
The Royal Enclave has a cluster of palaces and structures built around two artificial lakes. The two most interesting buildings are the Hindola Mahal, Swing Palace and Jahaz Mahal (Ship Palace).
Do you remember when I mentioned in the previous video that Shah Khilji disliked fat women as well as women with grey hair? One of the lakes or ponds was filled with natural dyes and women with grey hair used it to get rid of their grey hair. With 15,000 concubines, wouldn't you think there was a colorist among them?
Tiger balconies, women's palace, step wells, underground fortifications, a hammam and whatever else money could buy, or build. So much to see...
