Point Prim Lighthouse, Prince Edward Island
The Point Prim Lighthouse holds the distinction of being the first lighthouse built on Prince Edward Island, constructed in 1845 with the light being lit for the first time on December 4, 1845. This tower was designed by noted architect Isaac Smith, who also designed Province House in Charlottetown. The Tower is also noteworthy in that it is one of only two circular brick lighthouses in Canada. Although constructed of brick the tower was covered in wood shingles in 1847 due to deterioration of the brick caused by freeze/thaw cycles and other environmental factors.
The Point Prim Lighthouse stands 61 feet tall and has five levels including the ground floor, three landings & lantern deck.
A museum is operated in the summer with guided tours.
Location: Located on Point Prim, 10.9km west of Belfast.
Latitude: 46.05036
Longitude: -63.03844

(SOLD) 178 Ship Wreck Shore Road Point Prim Waterfront across from Charlottetown PEI Real Estate
(SOLD) The Captains Watch Cottage was built in 2001 and was designed with the ideas of the owner and architect Jack Miller. Your new cottage was built to replicate typical Point Prim farm homesteads in a scaled down cottage version. This property, owned and farmed by the Gillis family for over 200 years was built on the top of the north-side of a 100 Acre farm overlooking Hillsborough Bay. The Gillis family landed from Scotland on the Polly ship surrounding the shores of the Captains Watch cottage in 1803. The panoramic views from the red cliffs of Captains Watch are spectacular. Your new escape overlooks the waters where the Polly ship sailed in from Scotland with the settlers in 1803. The name, Shipwreck Shores came from the knowledge of the dozens of ship wrecks off these shores during the golden age of sailing. You will enjoy the amazing sunsets as well as the many cruise ships coming to and from the Charlottetown Harbour. As well, you can enjoy a closer look from your observation deck nestled on the cliffs of Shipwreck Shores. Over the years, Point Prim has become a must-see area of Prince Edward Island and a sought-after area to vacation or summer seasonal residency. With an outstanding restaurant, #1 on Trip Advisor, the Chowder House is a real gem located at the end of the Point Prim road on the Northumberland Strait. As well, the oldest lighthouse on Prince Edward Island (1845) is located on Point Prim with a newly constructed museum and gift shop opening summer of 2017. Activities in the area include, clam digging, beach combing, great swimming, kayaking, biking and a great scenic golf course 10 minutes away in Belfast, Prince Edward Island. As well, there are many local artisians displaying and selling their work in the area. Wow! 24 HOUR A DAY OPEN HOUSE ON VIDEO! Big Tignish / Jude's Point Lighthouse, Prince Edward Island
The Big Tignish or Jude's Point Lighthouse was constructed in 1880 and put into operation in 1881. The tower stands thirty three feet high.
The lighthouse was originally located at the entrance to the Main Channel or Tignish Run, which cuts through a sandy beach at Jude's Point. It overlooked the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the northwest shore of Prince Edward Island.
This structure was operated as a rear range light until 1989, when it was converted to a coastal light. The light was decommissioned in 1997 and began to fall into disrepair. It was donated by the Tignish Harbour authority to a local community group and in 2008 the tower was relocated from the harbour entrance to a nearby park where it forms part of a memorial to fishermen lost at sea.
