Shiraito falls: our visit to Shiraito no Taki Waterfalls, Japan
In May 2018 we visited Shiraito falls in Japan, near Mount Fuji, in an area called Fujinomiya.
Shiraito waterfalls' full name is: Shiraito no Taki Waterfalls (in Japanese: 白糸の滝 ), and within the nature park you can also find another waterfall called Otodome no Taki Waterfalls (or Otodome falls / Otodome waterfalls), and a little pool called Obinmizu Pool. These magnificent natural water features are found along part of the Shibakawa River in this beautiful countryside area of Japan. Japanese country at its best! :) The hiking walk to the falls is easy, even if you're not very fit like me! Just a short hike - more of a walk really - down a nature trail. I hope you enjoy this quick tour of Shirato falls from our visit.

Located in the southwestern foothills of Mount Fuji, Shiraito Falls is a 150 meter wide cascade of spring water coming from Mt Fuji that flows off a 20 meter high cliff. Because of its natural beauty and uniqueness, the Shiraito Falls have been part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu national park since 1936 and as such protected under the national monument act. It has been listed as one of Japan’s Top 11 Waterfalls since 1990. Finally, Shiraito Falls has been regarded for centuries as sacred under the Fuji Cult which includes both the Asama jinja and Sengen jinja that have already been featured on this channel.

Shiraito Falls, Fujinomiya, Japan, 04/12/2019
The Shiraito Falls (白糸の滝, Shiraito no Taki) are located in the southwestern foothills of Mount Fuji. Ranked among the most beautiful waterfalls in Japan, the 150 meter wide cascade is fed by the volcano's spring water and flows off the edge of a 20 meter high cliff in thin white streams that resemble hanging threads of silk - hence its name. The base of the waterfall is easily accessible from the road via a walking trail in just a few minutes.
Several souvenir shops line the trail that leads down to the falls. Along the way, there are nice views of Otodome Falls, another thundering, 25 meter high column of water. The area is at its best in summer when the waterfalls are flush with the winter snow melt from Mount Fuji and the green foliage is at its fullest, and during the autumn season (usually from mid to late November) when the leaves change.
