Ankit Trivedi is a Gujarati language poet, writer, columnist, and emcee from Gujarat, India. His significant works include Gzazal Purvak (collection of ghazal) and Geet Purvak (collection of geet). The Indian National Theater in Mumbai awarded him the 2008 Shayda Award for his contribution to Gujarati ghazal. He has received the Takhtasinh Parmar Prize literary award, Yuva Gaurav Puraskar award, and the Yuva Puraskar award. He edited Gazalvishwa, a Gujarati ghazal poetry journal, from 2006 to 2007.

Theatre cannot change the world alone but it certainly has, power to initiate the change. Stella Adler rightly noted,

The theatre was created to tell people the truth about life and the social situation

Since centuries theatre has been used as an agent for social and political expression and change. It is widely said that it exists everywhere and it should remain forever as it is the most closet art form to the human beings.

Budhan Theatre realized power of theatre long before and that's why community youth of Chhara tribe in Ahmedabad are continuously practicing in theatre since 14 years for social change and for an acceptance. We believe that theatre has changed historical stigmatized identity of 'criminal tribe' of the Chhara community and it has help to community people for respectable life. Now it is Budhan Theatre's turn to give back to the field of Theatre and thus, the idea to organize Ahmedabad Theatre Festival born.

When technology is bombarding on us, we are rapidly forgetting our art forms and yes, theatre is one of them. If we wish to sustain theatre, we have to make it popular among common men. Common men must realize that theatre is his/her own art form and they must watch/perform it consistently in order to save it. We are trying to bring theatre to all the strata of the society and that's why Ahmedabad Theatre Festival (ATF), an annual theatre festival to be organized every year by Budhan Theatre from February 2012 onwards. ATF-2012 will be performed at three locations. Sahitya Parishad Hall HK Hall on Ashram Road Jaishankar Sundari Hall in Jamalpur area located very near to the Ashram Road on February 24, 25 and 26th of 2012. Every year in February the festival will be organized in Ahmedabad. The plays from Haryana, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chhatisgarh, Delhi, Odissa, Pune and Gujarat will be organized. Plays in Hindi, English, Marathi, Bangla, Bhojpuri, Illahabadi and Gujarati will be performed during the festival. There will be around 200 theatre artists coming from these states and around 300 theatre and folk theatre artists will be performing in ATF-2012. This is a first of its kind theatre festival in Western Part of the country which gives platform to the theatre artists from all across the nation. Budhan Theatre selected few plays from wide range of plays touching the lives of poor, rich, marginalized communities or even the middle class society of Ahmedabad. The city will witness one of the biggest theatre festival organized on its land since decades. The plays participating in the ATF-2012 for Amdavadis has a wide range- from social issues like loneliness of a senior citizen or the issue of honour killings to a light subject for the kids. The festival highlights the folk theatre of Gujarat, which have been given a dignified platform to show its talent to the city.

The festival will kick off with a rally from Gandhi Ashram to Sahitya Parishad. Artists from all across the country will be participating in the rally with their traditional dresses as well as the theatre properties to be used by them.

Also some plays will be perform in community spaces in different areas of Ahmedabad city such as Chharanagar, Dalit Vaas at Vadaj and Nehrunagar in Kubernagar and locality of closed cloth mills in Gomtipur. There are open community spaces where all sort of theatre will be perform and mainly community people will watch plays.

By organizing ATF, Budhan Theatre is trying to bring theatre and all strata of the society together and where both will have dialog which, we hope, help to spread theatre to the communities.
