Experience Kerala through my eyes | Travel Vlog | Budget Trip | Cochin | Ernakulam
Traveled from Bangalore to Ernakulam in Ernakulam Express-12677.
Ernakulam Shiva Temple, also known as Ernakulathappan Temple is one of the major temples of Kerala, located in heart of Ernakulam, the downtown area of the city of Kochi. The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is considered as the city temple, with the presiding deity as the protector of the city, as per local Hindu faiths and traditions. As per the common practice in Kerala, the deity is reverently called Ernakulathappan, which means Lord of Ernakulam. The temple is located within the Durbar Hall Ground. The temple history itself has deep association with history of the city and was one of the 7 royal temples of Kochi Maharajas.
Traveled by boat jetty to Fort Kochi. Fort Kochi is a region in the city of Kochi in the state of Kerala, India. This is part of a handful of water-bound regions toward the south-west of the mainland Kochi, and collectively known as Old Kochi or West Kochi. Adjacent to this is Mattancherry. In 1967, these three municipalities, along with a few adjoining areas, were amalgamated to form the Corporation of Cochin.
St. Francis Church, in Fort Kochi (Fort Cochin), Kochi, originally built in 1503, is one of the oldest European churches in India and has great historical significance as a mute witness to the European colonial struggle in the subcontinent. The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama died in Kochi in 1524 when he was on his third visit to India. His body was originally buried in this church, but after fourteen years his remains were removed to Lisbon.
The Mattancherry Palace is a Portuguese palace popularly known as the Dutch Palace, in Mattancherry, Kochi, in the Indian state of Kerala which features Kerala murals depicting portraits and exhibits of the Rajas of Kochi.
The Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica at Fort Kochi is one of the eight Basilicas in Kerala. Counted as one of the heritage edifices of Kerala, this church is one of the finest and most impressive churches in India and visited by tourists the whole year round.

Sacred Journey Kootal Attupuram Mana Pazhaya Unnathoor
This is the subaltern History of the Kootal Attupuram Mana and the Pazhaya Unnathoor temple ( watch the earlier upload ) as told in an interview by the present Tharavattamma of the Mana..
The beautiful Murals are created by the Chieftain of the Mana and is preserved still. The Darusilpa of Lord Parasurama within the Nalukettu ( in Bhagavathi shrine) also is his handwork. Most of the stone pavements of old Unnathoor temple were reused in the construction of these Temples and a few scripts are seen on them. The Mohini and Sastha relief figures in front of Siva temple and the Venugopala Krishna reliefs in front of Vishnu temple, the Navagraha panel in Namaskaramandapam of Siva etc are noteworthy. The sapthamathruka of old Unnathoor is still seen near the new sapthamathruka ( in between the siva and Vishnu shrines). The two venugopala reliefs and Mohini /Sastha reliefs are on a single stone (ottakkallu) and that is a architect's skill.Pazhaya Unnathoor being a village of artisans who works on stones (traditional) this has to be considered important. (The Mahavishnu -Mohini, and Siva -Ardhanareeswara idols of Pazhaya Unnathoor temple are at present in the Kootal Attupuram Mana)
Sastha is Jadadhari and in the Naga shrine there are 8 figures of Naga including Chithrakoota , two of them are anthropomorphic. They are under neath a Tamarind tree (Puli) .The jadadhari sastha is smaller than that of Thrissileri , but is as beautifully carved. The kootal aattupuram mana shrines are well kept by the Mana for centuries, after the temple of Pazhaya Unnathoor was destroyed .They have protected the idols , the stone pavements and if they had not done so, the relics of Pazhaya Unnathoor would not have survived to this date. History of Kerala is indebted to such selfless service by the ancient families in protecting tradition as well as History and archeology for generations. They never expected awards or post graduate degrees but did it, feeling that it is their duty to protect tradition. Doing swadharma for sake of Dharma alone. Dharmam chara,Satyam Vada .(Do Dharma, Say Truth). I respect such selfless activity of protecting one's traditional historical relics.
A few Malayalam Films were shot from the Kulappura of the Temple.

Ernakulam - port city of Kerala
Ernakulam is the commercial capital of kerala where the important offices such Kerala High Court, the Office of the Corporation of Cochin and the Cochin Stock Exchange are all situated here. The name 'Ernakulam' is derived from the name of a very famous temple of Lord Shiva called the Ernakulathappan Temple. It is also said that the word Ernakulam was drawn from Malayalam words 'Ere naal Kulam', which mean 'Pond for a long time'.
The mystical land of Kerala, also known as 'GOD'S OWN COUNTRY' lies between the Lakshadweep sea and the Western Ghats. It has a humid equatorial tropic climate. The eastern Kerala province consists of high mountains, gorges and deep-cut valleys directly to the west of the Western Ghats' rain shadow. The highest peak is Anamudi at an elevated at 2,695 meters. At the west of the mountains lie the midland plains comprising central Kerala, dominated by rolling hills and valleys.
Kerala's western coastal belt is somewhat flat, and is criss-crossed by a network of interconnected brackish canals, lakes, estuaries, and rivers known as the Kerala Backwaters. Around 8% of India's waterways lengthwise are found in Kerala. The most significant of Kerala's forty-four rivers include the Periyar (244 km), the Bharathapuzha (209 km), the Pamba (176 km), the Chaliyar (169 km), the Kadalundipuzha River (130 km), the Valapattanam (129 km) and the Achankovil (128 km). As Kerala's rivers are small and lack deltas, they are more prone to environmental factors.
During summer, Kerala is prone to gale force winds, storm surges, cyclone-related torrential downpours, occasional droughts, and rises in sea level. The mean daily temperatures range from 19.8 °C to 36.7 °C and mean annual temperatures range from 25.0--27.5 °C in the coastal lowlands to 20.0--22.5 °C in the eastern highlands.
