City of Shizuoka is a posting station of the old Tokaido* that closely connected with Tokugawa Ieyasu**. And also the city holds lots of cultural heritages together with a rich nature of Suruga gulf and the south Alps mountains.

The city located at the center of Shizuoka prefecture and the place is the center of administration, commerce, and economy. The city is surrounded by Mount Fuji, Nihondaira*, the south Alps mountains, and a rich fishery of Suruga gulf.

Historically, the city had been developed for the one of major posting station at Tokaido that connect the important north-south root of Japan during Edo period. There are quite few famous historical locations including Sunpu castle where Tokugawa Ieyasu had spend his late years, Kunozan Toshogu*, and the ruins of Toro.

Shizuoka City is popular for the sightseeing and events. Shizuoka Festival would be held during spring cherry blossom season, Abekawa Fire Works and Shimizu Port Festival for summer, Daido-Gei (street performance) World Cup in Shizuoka in fall. Also Shizuoka Hobby Show, that is the most popular toy show providing the latest and newest toys of Japan, attracts buyers from the world wide.
The place is also famous for B-class gourmet (dishes popular among ordinary people) of Shizuoka Oden, Sakura shrimp and young sardines from Suruga gulf, well-known unique cultivation of strawberry, Shizuoka green tea, Utogi Wasabi, and grated yam soup.

JR Shizuoka Station （JR 静岡駅）, Shizuoka Prefecture
Shizuoka Prefecture （静岡県） is located in southeast of Japan. It is located on the Tokaido Sanyo Railway line and is serviced by both local JR lines and the Shinkansen (Bullet Train). Although not all bullet trains stop here, most do. JR Shizuoka Station (JR 静岡駅） services both the regular JR lines and the bullet trains.
Shizuoka city is where Tokugawa Ieyasu was born. Tokugawa Ieyasu was the greatest Samurai in Japanese history and had the title of Shogun. This official title shogun (supreme commander of the feudal government) was given to him by the emperor at that time.
In 1605, Tokugawa Ieyasu handed over the position of shogun to his third son Hidetada and retired to Sumpu Castle located in his childhood home in Shizuoka City.
Shizuoka city is also known as the stopping and starting place for many trekkers to the Mt. Fuji. You can see great views of Mt. Fuji (富士山） on the way to Shizuoka city from Tokyo.

We decided to take a 2-Day trip to Shizuoka Prefecture. Since being the exchange students in Japan for a half year, four of us had never taken any trip together. Moreover, two of them returned to Thailand after the first semester had done. So, we planned to make a short trip to somewhere near Tokyo. At first, we planned to go to Hakone but someone went there before. Then we changed the destination by moving a little bit beneath Hakone and that's Shizuoka. We'd been to Kawazu and Doukashima. Yes! It's such A great time with these great friends
