St. John the Evangelist Parish Church, Shobdon
Shobdon Church contains the most complete Rococo Gothick interior in the UK. World Monuments Fund added it to their Watch List in 2010 and since then it has undergone an extensive restoration to ensure this special church can be enjoyed for years to come.
Shobdon Church, Herefordshire
Shobdon Church is a hugely important work of architecture. It has a direct connection to Horace Walpole's Strawberry Hill in Twickenham and the members of the Committee of Taste which strongly influenced its design. Its amazingly intact interior and matching furniture are the sole example of this Walpolean Gothick style of Georgian church architecture and furnishing.
Shobdon Church is closed for the rest of 2011 for essential building work.
Prince Charles donation helps Shobdon Church restoration
The Prince of Wales has visited The Church of St John the Evangelist, Shobdon, to view the unique 18th Century 'Walpolean Gothic' building which has undergone 12 years of restoration work.
His Royal Highness previously visited the Shobdon Church in 2004 and made a donation to its restoration appeal. The work enabled by the appeal was completed just before Christmas.
Places of England: Shobdon (Season 1 : Episode 14)
Apologies for the huge delay of the release of this episode, I was mostly busy focusing on my other interests, such as logos, Geograph, etc. However, I managed to get this episode done in just 2 days and here it is, in all of its glory! This episode was originally going to look at most of the villages in northern-Herefordshire, but I thought that would be too tricky, so I changed it to Shobdon only, and this was requested by one of the friends of this channel, so here is what you wanted! This episode takes a look at the history and character of the village of Shobdon in northern-Herefordshire, and is a very interesting village, as it has remarkable landmarks such as St. John the Evangelist Church, Shobdon Court, Shobdon Airfield/Aerodrome, etc. With all that said, I hope you enjoy watching this episode friends! :-)

Shobdon Food & Flying Festival
Shobdon is only a 40 min scenic flight from Otherton . The food and flying festival is quintessentially British. A superbly well organised unique mix of country fair and air show. It was an excellent day out ending with a typical isolated summer shower that arrived over the airfield at exactly the same time as we did..

Reflection on Blue Monday

The Historic cost of Preaching in England (2018) #Tyndale #Luther #Reform #Preaching
Independent sermon given by Simon Peter Sutherland on the historic cost of preaching in England, primarily focusing on the times of John Wycliffe and his 1388 New Testament, to William Tyndale and his 1534 New Testament and the English #reformation.
In 1535 an English Bible was printed in #London, with license from Henry V111 and it contained Tyndale's New Testament, yet #Tyndale did not get the credit. Tyndale was burned at the stake in 1536.
Between 1553-1558 no more than 300 Christians were executed in England during the reign of Mary Tudor. England needed religious #tolerance, but it was not yet given.
In 1560 the New Testament of the #Geneva #Bible was published and in 1576 the complete Geneva Bible was printed. This Bible was the first English Bible to contain the verse numbering system.
In 1611, the Authorised Version (King James Version) was published, and it contained 84-90% of Tyndale's translation.
In 1689 the Act of Tolerance was passed by #Parliament. This provided people with the right to worship God as they wanted. Many left the Church of England and formed #Congregational, #Baptist and #Presbyterian Churches. In the 18th century many #Weslayan Churches were planted throughout England.
Delivered 28/5/2018. Full permission was granted to the filmmaker for filming inside the building during the recording of this sermon.
