Duke's Nose Point- Khandala Lonavala
Nagphani, later known as Duke’s Nose after Duke Wellington, is a cliff at Khandala near Lonavala. The Cliff is pointed like a snakes pointed head portion (hood) and hence the name Nagphani (Nag means snake and phani means hood). The name Dukes’nose is derived as the cliff looked like the shape of the Duke. This is a marvelous picnic spot nearby Lonavala - See more at:
Nagphani (Duke’s Nose) appears almost inaccessible, but it is a surprisingly simple trek to reach the summit from the southern approach. The trekker is rewarded with amazing views of the Mumbai-Pune road and rail corridors, as well as great views of Khandala and the surrounding Sahyadri peaks. Duke’s Nose is a convenient day trip from either Mumbai or Pune and the trekking route starts also very conviently near the Khandala railway station.

Matheran माथेरान is a hill station and a municipal council in the Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is a hill station in Karjat Tahsil and is also the smallest hill station in India. It is located on the Western Ghats range at an elevation of around 800 m (2,625 feet) above sea level. It is located around 90 km from Mumbai, and 120 km from Pune. Matheran's proximity to many metropolitan cities makes it a popular weekend getaway for urban residents. Matheran, which means forest on the forehead (of the mountains) is an eco-sensitive region, declared by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. It is Asia's only automobile-free hill station.
There are around 38 designated look-out points in Matheran, including the Panorama Point that provides a 360 degree view of the surrounding area and also the Neral town. From this point, the view of sunset and sunrise is dramatic. The Louisa Point offers crystal clear view of the Prabal Fort. The other points are the One Tree Hill Point, Heart Point, Monkey Point, Porcupine Point, Rambagh Point, and more. To stay there, there are plenty of hotels. There are a lot of Parsi bungalows. Beautiful old British-style architecture is preserved in Matheran. The roads are not metalled and are made of red laterite earth. There are many points (viewpoints) in Matheran which give a panoramic view of the plains below.
Matheran is well connected to Mumbai (100 km) & Pune (120 km) by rail and road, while Neral is the nearest rail station.

Bhushi Dam + Lion's Point : Famous Rainy Season Picnic Points at Lonavala near Mumbai - Pune
Weekend Special Picnic Spots near Mumbai and Pune : Bhushi Dam and Lion's Point at Lonavala
The Bhushi Dam is a masonry dam on the Indrayani River in Lonavala, Maharashtra, India.
The dam was built in the late 1860s for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway as a source of water for their steam engines. As of 2014 it is owned by the Central Railway zone of the Indian Railways, the successor to the Great Indian Peninsular Railway.
Water was carried from the reservoir to Lonavala, Khandala and the reversing station of the railways by cast-iron pipes. The Railway company later agreed to supply some water to the town of Lonavala as well, because the dam had been built using Municipal funding.
In 2011, the Indian Navy proposed to take over the Bhushi dam and Bhugaon lake for its training activities at the Indian Naval Station Shivaji which is located in the vicinity. The Lonavala Police stated that such a move would restrict the access of the public to the dam.
In 2012, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) proposed to construct a 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) long tunnel along the Mumbai Pune Expressway which would pass right below the Bhushi dam.

The Bhushi Dam is a masonry dam on the Indrayani River in Lonavala, Maharashtra, India. In 2014, the Indian Railways announced plans to develop Bhushi Dam as a tourist resort with participation from the private sector.
The dam was built in the late 1860s for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway as a source of water for their steam engines. As of 2014 it is owned by the Central Railway zone of the Indian Railways, the successor to the Great Indian Peninsular Railway.

In 2012, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) proposed to construct a 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) long tunnel along the Mumbai Pune Expressway which would pass right below the Bhushi dam.
The Bhushi Dam frequently sees cases of drowning. A 2012 report stated that as many as 25 people had died in a five-year period.
In order to bring down these accidents, the Lonavala Police and the railways set up a control room near the dam, as well as imposed a ban on consumption of liquor in areas surrounding the dam.Subsequently, vehicles were banned from entering the area after 3 pm and visitors were prohibited from entering the dam and the surrounding areas after 5 pm.
Tourists are usually allowed to visit the dam from 9 am up to 3 pm. Except local buses, all other buses are banned from entering the area.

Haaji Ali Dargah is actually located inside the sea about half km from the sea shore. As you can see in the video the Dargha looks very prominent as there is no other building near to it. It is surrounded by mud and water at all sides except just one road connecting it to the main land. The connecting road is submerged in water during high tide. Thus the Dargah is connected and disconnected to the main land twice on every day. You can go to the dargah only when there is low tide.
Victoria Terminus or VT is one of the most important heritage buildings which is used as the railway station of Mumbai. There are many railway stations in Mumbai however VT is the last station. The station is also called as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST). This building is very old and reflects beautiful British architecture. Town hall is another important heritage building (on Saheed Bhagat Singh Road) which is also located near to the Victoria Terminus.
The marine drive is the most popular beach area of Mumbai. This place is very spectacular and enjoyable. The lights on both the sides of the curved shape of the beach look like a diamond necklace in the evening. The most important point in Marine drive is the Gateway of India. There is a harbor near Gateway of India where the ferries go to Elephanta caves. Besides you can see hundreds of large ships on the sea from here. This place is full of people during the evenings.
Hanging garden is located at the top of Malabar hill. This is a very old park laid out during 1881. This is also called as PMG (Pherozeshah Mehta Garden). This is a public park and there is no entry fee to visit this park. Kamala Nehru park is also located on Malabar hill just opposite to the Hanging garden. It is also called the shoe park. There is a huge shoe shaped structure inside the park. This huge structure of shoe is also called as the old woman’s shoe.

Matheran is an Eco-sensitive hill station in Maharastra about 100 kms from Mumbai and 120 kms from Pune. It is situated about 800 meters above sea level on Sahayadri hills. From Mumbai we went Neral by a local train. From Neral there is a special narrow gauge toy train to Matheran which usually does not operate. From Neral we went upto the hill by a shared taxi (Busses and bigger vehicles don’t go to the hill).
There are more than a dozen interesting points on top of the hill. (A longer list shows more than 30 points to see). We first went to the panorama point, then Nigam's point, heart point, Monkey point, Sunset point, Paymaster Park and finally echo point. We were pretty tired by walking and walking. However the day was interesting and adventurous.
