Idaho Wiliam tours Shoshone Ice Caves
Idaho William gives you all the information about the cave, plus some interesting old west stories about the cave. The ice cave stays 23 to 26 degrees no matter what the temperature is outside. The cave is a big long lava tube, and the ice about 30 feet deep at its deepest and solid all the way through. There are about 4 layers of rock here, and so that means about 8,000 years of geological history. Nomadic tribes lived in this area 13-14,000 years ago. In the 1800s, Alfred Kinsey looking for a sheep stumbled across the ice cave and he rushed home to tell his dad. Then locals started harvesting the ice. This ice made it so that Shoshone was the first town in the old west to serve ice cold beer, because they had ice to keep food products and drinks cold.

Western Shoshone
For years, the Western Shoshone tribe has been fighting the US government for its rights to 60 million acres of land stretching across the states of Nevada, Idaho, Utah and California. The US government has been using some of the land for military testing, open-pit gold-ming and nuclear waste disposal planning. It has imposed fines on members of the Western Shoshone tribe who use the land for cattle grazing and has repeatedly confiscated their livestock. Ghida Fakhry went to Nevada to meet the 75-year old tribe elder who is taking on the US government and big corporations to defend her ancestral land.

Shoshone Ice Cave, part 2, 4k
This is Shoshone Ice Cave near Shoshone, Idaho. This cave has guided tours only, but I managed to be the only tourist in this group. At 0:45 I'm inside the cave. Notice like many other tourist caves it has lighting installed. At 1:23 the left wall sparkles. At 4:34 there's a weird circle in the ice. The guide says it might be a methane bubble. Can anyone confirm or deny? At 7:13 are some formations. These are real, but moved from another cave.

Mammoth Cave and Shoshone Bird Museum in Shoshone, Idaho
Idaho William explores the Mammoth cave and Shoshone Bird Museum located in Lincoln county. It was really neat doing the self- tour through the cave, but just before going into the cave we got to watch peacocks and Emus. The Emu were really curious and funny. Going through the museum was slightly creepy, because of all the stuffed animals and creatures, but certainly fascinating and educational too.

Native Americans battle corporates in Idaho
The tar sands region of the Canadian Province of Alberta has proved a lucrative, and controversial, source of oil for the US market. A remote stretch of highway in the US state of Idaho has become a choke point for tar sands machinery, threatening to cost big oil companies billions of dollars. The fight against megaloads, activists believe, is also a fight against the ecological damage in the tar sands region of Alberta. Many also believe it's a blow in the battle to stop man-made climate change Al Jazeera's Rob Reynolds reports from Idaho.
