-------------------------------------------------
The Shoshone or Shoshoni (/ʃoʊˈʃoʊniː/ (About this soundlisten) or /ʃəˈʃoʊniː/ (About this soundlisten)) are a Native American tribe with four large cultural/linguistic divisions:
Eastern Shoshone: Wyoming
Northern Shoshone: southern Idaho
Western Shoshone: Nevada, northern Utah
Gosiute: western Utah, eastern Nevada
They traditionally speak the Shoshoni language, part of the Numic languages branch of the large Uto-Aztecan language family. The Shoshone were sometimes called the Snake Indians by neighboring tribes and early American explorers.
Their peoples have become members of federally recognized tribes throughout their traditional areas of settlement, often colocated with the Northern Paiute people of the Great Basin.

Washakie - Last Chief of the Eastern Shoshone
From his birth in the Bitterroot Mountains among the Salish Tribe, to his exploits as a warrior with the Lemhi Shoshone and Bannocks, Washakie was recognized early as an extraordinary person. But he made his historical claim to greatness in the second half of the 19th century, as chief of the Eastern Shoshone. For lesson plans, visit
Museum Shoshone; milk processing, Union Pacific donation; train town; Idaho
The train station donation $2,000 to the museum and the museum decided to spend the money quickly on tech equipment for conducting interviews and making presentations.
The curator said that the town was built on prostitution and the names of the streets were slang names for prostitutes.
Well lit museum.

Cody Wyoming RV Stay & Shoshone Fly Fishing & Wild Horses
I'm way behind on videos, but we have been winding our way toward Glacier NP, but we needed a place to stay over Labor Day. Campgrounds are usually crowded, especially those near national parks. We found an inexpensive campground with beautiful views at Buffalo Bill State Park just outside of Cody, WY. The area has a lot to offer from wild horses on BLM land east of town to historic museums in town, as well as my favorite, fly fishing on the Shoshone. Make sure and subscribe if you would like to follow along with Terri, George(me) & Gizzy on our adventures as we wander the country living full time in our red, 2002 Newmar Dutch Star, diesel pusher RV. I swear, we have to be the only people in a red class A motorhome.
You can also follow our blog at jumingoffthecliff.com or on facebook via facebook.com/jumpingoffthecliff. We started this adventure in the Summer of 2016.
While our channel is based on living full time in an RV, our subject matter wanders a little like we do;)
Anyway, I hope you will join us as we wander about. Thanks for watching, subscribing, commenting, etc.
Laws Railroad Museum And Historic Site Tour - Laws/Bishop California
This video takes us on a tour of the Laws Railroad Museum and Historic Site in Laws, California which is a few miles outside of Bishop, California.
The museum is free to enter and focuses on railroad and mining history. There are 11 acres of indoor and outdoor exhibits as well as a mock up of a mine and mill.
We visited for at least two hours with Ron Morefield, who gave us a great demonstration of a couple hit and miss engines, plus the history behind several more engines, that are there at the museum. There is also the original depot and the Slim Princess, a narrow gauge train that served the rail stop at Laws. It is a great museum that will take at least a few hours to explore.
Here are links to two related videos about the hit and miss engines.
Shoshone Falls, Idaho
Shoshone Falls (/ʃoʊˈʃoʊn/) is a waterfall on the Snake River in southern Idaho, United States, located approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of the city of Twin Falls. Sometimes called the Niagara of the West, Shoshone Falls is 212 feet (65 m) high—45 feet (14 m) higher than Niagara Falls—and flows over a rim nearly 1,000 feet (300 m) wide.
Formed by catastrophic outburst flooding during the Pleistocene ice age about 14,000 years ago, Shoshone Falls marks the historical upper limit of fish migration (includingsalmon) in the Snake River, and was an important fishing and trading place for Native Americans. The falls were documented by Europeans as early as the 1840s; despite the isolated location, it became a tourist attraction starting in the 1860s. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Snake River was controversially diverted for irrigation of the Magic Valley, with the result that the falls no longer flow with force year-round. However, irrigation and hydroelectric power stations built on the falls were the primary contributors to early economic development in southern Idaho.
Current water flow over the Shoshone Falls as of April 17, 2017 is 19,900 cubic-feet per second.
Lived History - the Story of the Wind River Virtual Museum
Over the years, pipes, cradle boards, parfleches, and other ancestral artifacts from the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming have accumulated in museums, far from their place of origin. 'LIVED HISTORY' documents the creation of a high definition video 'virtual museum' of ancestral artifacts, currently stored in museum collections, for the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes. Most SECLUDED Towns in the United States
The United States of America, with a population of around 325,7 million, is a Constitution-based federal republic with Washington DC as its Capital. The landscape changes vastly across the country, from tropical beaches to snowy peaks and everything in between. The city with the highest population is New York City and the least populated city is Vacaville in California. Today we’re going to visit some of the most secluded towns in the USA.

7 - Jarbrige, Nevada
There are only 2 dirt roads that will lead you into Jarbrige in Nevada, one is 80-miles or 128 kms long and it’s not always open. When it snows, you’re not getting through and that is sadly, most of the year. The best time to plan a visit is Spring, where there is an abundance of wildflowers. The little town has no paved roads, so you need a robust vehicle. The name comes from the Shoshone language and means “devil.” It was believed the hills around the town were haunted. The population in 2016 was a mere 116.
6 - Arthur, Nebraska
When the only church in town is made from baled straw, you’re already learning a lot about that little town. Arthur may be small, but it’s worth a trip off the beaten track. Their tiny courthouse doubles up as a museum and the city is home to 117 residents. Founded in 1913, the town and county derived their names from President Chester A. Arthur. When the little town took off, it was home to a general store, a newspaper, church, one-room high school and bank. Arthur got electricity in 1926, although the rest of the county trailed behind, only getting power in the early 1950s.
5 - Edna Bay, Kosciusko Island
This remote and tiny town is located on Kosciusko Island and boasts a shop, church, marina and a few houses. If you’re keen to get away from it all, this is the place to go. It’s advised to kit yourself out for survival in the wild because the little shop is not that well stocked. There are only 49 people living there and they’re mainly loggers and fishermen. There is a small town nearby called Cape Pole, but there are only 100 people living there, and their set-up is much the same. Before Cape Pole was around, the nearest town was Petersburg, 31-miles or 50 km away, and when conditions were icy, that town may as well have been in another country!
4 - Kalaupapa, Hawaii
This unincorporated community is on Molokai island, the least visited island in Hawaii. The only way in is by sea or mule train and the town hugs the coastline of Kalawao County. Back in the 1800s, this used to be a leper colony and is now home to 122 permanent residents. The area is preserved and known as the Kalaupapa Leprosy Settlement and National Historical Park. The town has one post office, a small church and 2,000 unmarked graves. Sadly, you can’t just pay a visit to this remote area on a whim, you need to be invited by one of the 122 residents or go through a pre-determined tour operator.
3 - Winnett, Montana
This secluded town is in Petroleum County, Montana and is home to 185 people. In 2007, this little town convened its 3rd jury…ever! It has government offices, 2 gas stations, a post office, 2 bar and grills and that’s pretty much it. The nearest medical centre is in Lewistown, and there’s not even a hotel for you to stay in if you’re keen to visit. The town was named after Walter John Winnett, who ran away from his Canadian home to seek adventure in “Indian Country.” He was an excellent shot and was captured and adopted by Sioux Indians and given the name “Eagle Eyes.” He built a ranch in the area which served as a place for dances, weddings, school, funerals and services.
2 - Whittier, Alaska
There’s a 2.6 mile or 4 km tunnel that gives you access into Whittier, Alaska, and it’s only accessible during daylight hours. Less than 200 people have made this chilly town their home, and most of them live in one building – Begich Towers. They receive 55-feet or 16-meters of snow throughout the year, so pack your snow gear! It’s been called, “the town under one roof,” and besides most of the people living in that one building, inside there you will also find their police station, grocery store, a church, clinic and a school! You can visit this secluded spot, because in Begich Towers is also a B and B, plus if you’re snowed in and can’t get home, you can always rent DVDs from the grocery store.

Taken late June 2018 while staying in Yucca Valley up in the foothills in our RV. It was over 100 degrees outside. No idea why the compass reading is so flakey as the heading shows up fine in DJI flight logs for same flight.
